I go to 78th Street Studios every December to shop at the Cleveland Bazaar's holiday art festival and at least 1 or 2 additional times each year for other pop-up art fairs. There is always so many people here, bumping into each other, and fighting over parking, so it is a bit overstimulating. But it is worth it as it is definitely one of the BEST places that host art festivals/fairs at least a dozen or so times a year. Support local and keep up the good work! My only suggestion is to avoid parking nearby and just walk to 78th Street Studios until they respray the parking lot lines and fill in some of the potholes... read more

We attended a wedding at this location. Plenty of parking in their own lot. The wedding was about 100 people and the ceremony was on the first floor. The reception was held one floor above. The building is filled with art from local artists and gave a great vibe. All staff were friendly and helpful. A nice place for an event. read more

We had to call a special number and use a wheelchair lift that is outside the building to get in. Then inside we had to reach them again to travel to different levels. So it is a snowy cold Friday in Cleveland and I was looking for something different to do and I remembered that it was the 3rd Friday of the month, which means Third Friday at 78th Street Studios. I headed over in time to get there just at 5pm when the event starts. Parking was easy as they were just getting going and getting inside the crowd was just beginning. 78th Street Studios is scattered over 4 different floors and it is well worth it to take your time browsing through the many different studios. Of note are the graphic artists, the stained glass and the various craft items. On the Third Friday they also have additional vendors set up on the main floor selling additional items plus some food and drinks. I almost missed the basement floor which has the event space and a couple of really cool antique stores. I ended up buying a small metal silhouette figure called Wee People by Laurel Herbold and am considering buying some antique Nepali masks from the Byzantine. In addition I had a great time looking at all the art and talking to the artists. Third Friday at 78th Street Studios is well worth a visit. It is an upscale art based Flea, social event and a great way to support local artists. It is also really cool to see the kind of artistic talents that Cleveland provides. Going during the winter provides a bit more manageable crowds as they can become a bit overwhelming during the summer. It was a surprisingly nice experience. The place is not great for wheelchairs but the guys were helpful getting me up the outside elevator into the building. It was neat having to use the old freight elevator to change floors too. Such a nice selection of artists and artisans . So many candle and jewelry but also a lot of art work. This is the perfect place to come and find a special gift for someone or even for yourself. Everything from homemade clothes and jewelry, bath and body products, food, art, vintage finds, plants, accessories, furniture, home decor and more. Four floors to pursue and so close to many great restaurants and bars if you don't decide to eat and drink while shopping. Parking is a bit challenging but worth the walk. What an incredible use of industrial space for art galleries and creativity. I was wowed as soon as I walked into the building. All the areas was not accessible for wedding guests but the parts that I saw was pretty amazing. The exposed brick walls and private artworks provided the urban, hip, rundown look of a very cool and sophisticated place for a wedding. There was a cocktail hour on the 3rd floor and the wedding reception on the 2nd floor. It was elegantly decorated and every details on the table was handmade by the bride. It was beautiful. Every space was utilized and executed perfectly and the best part was the music and the dance floor. The sound was great, AC was on to cool off ourselves after dancing all night. It really was an incredible place for a wedding. The restrooms even had a setting for feminine hygiene, gum, hair ties, etc for the ladies. I'm not sure if the guys had anything but the details in the ladies room, added a nice touch. I hope to come back next time to explore the art museums and the many events they have for the public! read more

Third Fridays are the only times I've went and it is a great time. I feel like you meet some interesting people here each time. The art is a large range of paintings, jewelry, and furniture. So much more too. You are free to go in and out of most studios in the building. The artist are there to answer questions and give insight. It really is a cool event. I have to say the best thing I found out is that at 9 pm the event is over but in the basement arcade the party is just starting. They have a free comedy show every third Friday here. The comedians were veeeery funny, which shocked me. They were all local comics that seem to have new jokes. They were not telling your ordinary politics, family, life jokes. I really enjoyed it. The bar sells all you need, beer and wine. Also, all the pinball machines are free to play when the comedians are not performing. read more

78th Street Studios is one of my favorite places in Cleveland. It is such a truly special place. Its a photography dream filled with interesting people, one-of-a-kind art and cool vibes that will make you want to quit your job and make pottery. 78th Street can be an enigma for some, so here's the boring background info: It's the largest fine arts complex in NE Ohio with over 60 galleries, studios and performance art spaces. The building has a super rich history. It dates back to the 1900s and was originally home to the Baker Motor Company. Later, in the 80s it became an arm of American Greetings Creative Studios. There's a great reason people call it an art maze. On the popular Third Friday events (where the entire complex has an open house), its best just to get lost (who needs a stinkin' map). In one corner, you'll encounter a participatory art exhibit where dozens of people are contributing up close pictures of themselves to be compiled into a greater mosaic (yes, I really did this) but you'll turn another corner and find a live band playing with live drums you can jump on. It is a completely special and uniquely Cleveland experience everyone should have at least once. Wear good walking shoes, dress comfortably (it gets HOT, even in cold weather) and come explore with an open mind. Many of the galleries have things for sale at all price ranges. I have met some of my best friends and discovered some of my favorite artists here. From Susie Frazier Showroom (earth-minded, upcycled art) to HEDGE Gallery (contemporary art space), I have fallen in love with so many of the people and galleries that make this space special. I'm so proud to have this gem here in our city. They also host brilliant programming throughout the year, like holiday markets, and the space is available for rent throughout the year for special events. If you haven't visited here yet, you are doing yourself a disservice. read more

I live right up the street from this place, and yeah, of course I've heard of it. But, oh-em-gee this is a friggin' sweet studio space! Can I please just have a loft here and move in? Even if you don't have a creative bone in your body, you'll see an empty canvas ready to be filled with artsy goods when you walk into this place. Lucky for me, the first time I got to see 78th Street Studios, it was stuffed to the gills with local vendors, artists and Clevelanders at the Bazaar Bizarre. There literally is no better space for this awesome crafty show. I have to admit, as I was driving up I sort of felt like I was being lured to an old, abandoned warehouse for shady reasons. So, just be prepared. But like any other industrial and slightly dilapidated area of Cleveland, it is a little scary at first--then you discover the gem inside. Obviously there isn't much more I can say about an art studio space that I've only been to once. I guarantee you that I'll be there for other shows though. 78th Street Studios is this huge old warehouse full of artists/vendors and every third Friday of the month there is this after hours event (5-9pm) where you are free to browse about the studios/galleries inside. I thought it was pretty interesting to check out; some things I was like "wow, that is so cool, lots of talent there!" other things I was like "wtf is that? I don't understand this at all". Mentionables: It is hot as Hades in there during the summer, like seriously, we were both sweating buckets. Food is available for purchase. There is an area where you can play old school arcade games. If the parking lot fills up there is a dirt lot right down the road. Bring some cash, not all of the artists are able to process cards. I would definitely recommend this as a place to check out! read more

We like it also because "good dogs", their words not mine, are welcome. Parking can be tough but if you're patient a spot will definitely open. Such a cool space. I've been to this place numerous times-for local artists and yelp parties and just love it every time. Not only is it an abandoned warehouse turned into an artist haven, it has artist workspaces all over the building. Sure, it's older, but to have a bunch of local artists in one place..especially in a building that's very"CLE" is definitely cool. Additionally, just the other weekend, we found out there was free pinball on certain weekends of the month. Not fancy new pinball, but the old school ones and tons of them on the 3rd floor. Ya'll should have a UYE at 78th Street for a Third Friday, I might drive back up just for a chance to see this amazing space again. 78th Street Studios is HUGE. A bit cavernous and hard to navigate, but you really can't make a wrong turn. Hallways and stairs will lead you directly to some of the most talented people in Cleveland. Artist studios and galleries abound in 78th Street Studios. A different atmosphere on every floor, with plenty of good music, film, theater and free food. We came here on a Friday, every friday from 11-4, you can walk around and see what this place is all about. I liked the idea of having many different artists in one space working on their craft and sharing ideas. That's what this placed seemed like to me at least. I live right down the street from the studios and I love coming here for Third Fridays. It's BYOB, can't go wrong there. Grab a six of your favorite brew and head down to the studios. I can't remember exactly where, 2-3rd fl there is a pretty cool/creepy lady with a huge room full of art. She has dogs, cats, sugar gliders, deerbras all kinds of exotic animals running around that place. Only cats, but she really is creepy. Seriously, there's lots of artists with lots of very creative pieces ok fall kinds. It's really a full spectrum, a wide variety of all forms of art. One lady collects scrap metal all around town and makes everything from life-size sculptures on down to rings, necklaces and bracelets. I saw one of the coolest paintings ever down there on my most recent visit. Lots of grippy art down there, which I really dig. FYI, if you're not aware of some of the pieces being quite pricey, they are. I found out you can make payment plans with most of the artists. Maybe this is well known, butI had no clue. If you really are interested, pull the artist aside and inquire about breaking this down into a few installments, opposed to coming out of pocket all at once. Even if you don't want anything, come on down to browse, show your support to local artists and gulp a few cold ones. read more

I've ended up at this space randomly, twice now. I've loved it every time. Once was for a Yelp event I didn't know about until someone dragged me along (back in my non-yelping days). The other was for a DJ dance party type of affair. The art is awesome and the events usually fit perfectly into the mix. I agree with Cara's assessment of the shady vibe when approaching the location. The first time I drove up, I thought I was headed over to a murder factory. Ok, that's a huge exaggeration, but I at least thought I was going to some underground sort-of space that might be a little worse for wear. Holy wow, was I wrong. In terms of studio space, it looks awesome. There appears to be a great mix of the artful types creating a good mini-community. Since I can't draw a straight line, let alone paint or sculpt a masterpiece, I have to rely on others to make awesome arts for me. This is a great place to find those awesome arts. If you have a chance to visit this place, do it. It's one of those hidden gems of Cleveland that deserves massive recognition. read more

The 3rd Friday of each month, the studios have an open house from 5-9 pm. I highly recommend going to browse the art, have some tasty food and enjoy some beer or wine. Spice Kitchen & Bar has a stand named the Spice Box. We ordered the walleye chowder, squash & apples, and the steak sandwich ~ All delicious and very reasonably priced. There was also a food truck outside for more options. Several galleries, plus Spice had wine and beer available for donations. Came here for the first time on a Third Friday event and was very impressed with the entire warehouse-setup and artists utilizing the space within. I walked through all 4 floors worth of artists and their work and enjoyed how well each artist setup their space along with the sheer diversity of stuff available. I found very clever and relatively cheap ($5-$10) items mixed in with unique pieces, as well as higher end things. Other highlights included free video games, a Seinfeld themed room, vintage and unique furniture. There was also food and drinks (including booze) available for purchase in a few places, in addition to free food and drink items offered by many of the artists. It was definitely a nice peak into a slice of the Cleveland arts community, and a generally unique thing to do on a 3rd Friday night. I definitely would return to see how things change and evolve from month to month. read more

I found an artist who knows how to capture the appearance of water going over a waterfall, the same one will make a painting from a photograph to custom standards, there are all kinds of musicians around every corner, and the creative energy rocks the house. read more

I was here for a fundraiser held in the lower portion of the event space area. It was big and well air conditioned, the bathrooms were clean, there was such an amazing amount of visible art work. The food was provided by the Grocery in Ohio City, and it was awesome. I managed to finagle my way upstairs to their actual gallery and the art work was awesome! The staff was so friendly and intuitive, they knew every peace every history behind it, awesome!! If you're thinking of having an event this place is worth the look! read more

There was also a food truck outside "Touch" which was really good & convenient. Not only is it something fun to do on a Friday night but you get the chance to see so many talented people come together and present what they are most passionate about. Every time I'm here, I'm impressed more and more at how artistic and creative people can be (essentially the opposite of me). There are four floors and each floor is filled with different ways that people choose to express themselves. In general, I couldn't imagine this event being in any other building, it's just perfect for the occasion. The place has a unique charm to it, its no wonder that people do their weddings here! A huge plus is they have a donation box and have a selection of different wines and beers of your choosing, some even have an assortment of cheese (this itself would bring me here so the art is a huge plus). My wife and I chose the smART space at 78th for our wedding after we visited the space for a fundraiser and one of their "third Fridays" event. When checking the out, we were introduced to Hilary Gent, who runs the HEDGE gallery on the floor above. Hilary informed us that she was also an event planner for the space, and after only a few minutes with her we knew we needed to enlist her services. We did, and it was easily the best money we spent for our wedding. Hilary and her team of Adam and Kelli were so great to work with through our two-year engagement - they responded to emails promptly, didn't get frustrated with us when we bombarded them with questions, and really delivered an amazing wedding for us. Booking an art gallery for our wedding, we really wanted a creative touch, and Hilary and her team totally knocked it out of the park. Our flowers (another service Hilary provides) were incredible, easily the most beautiful flowers we have ever seen at a wedding. The table setups and arrangements were exquisitely done, and our ceremony (in Hilary's HEDGE gallery), was something that only existed in our dreams. Hilary contacted all of our vendors for us, made sure all deliveries were on time, and really just took all the hassle out of planning such a significant event. We do not think our wedding could have been any better, we were beyond thrilled with how everything turned out and have Hilary, Adam, and Kelli to thank for all of it. read more

We come out for the third Friday events every month. Always so much fantastic art, cool people, and great live music. Four floors of magic and wonder. I love meeting the artists and gallery owners. I love the Native American lady on the second floor. Miss Hilary at HEDGE gallery is such a peach and always has wonderful things in her space. On the third floor is Survival Kit and they have great music or some kind of wild and whimsical art project going on every few weeks. There is a room full of antiques, dinosaur models, paintings of tigers. There are austere galleries and rooms that are eclectic studiospace for serious local artists. I count myself lucky that I live in a town that offers a site like this. I first came here for a Yelp event a couple years back, but I try to come back at least a couple times a year to check out what's new. And there's always something new, eye-popping, or just fascinating to check out here. The entire complex is a melange of art galleries, interior decorators, recording studios, design firms, photography labs, and a ton of other things. I came here for the Cleveland Bazaar and actually had to leave the building a little bit due to sheer sensory overload. I went here on a third friday, it was hard to figure out where exactly we were supposed to enter. Later someone told us they do that on purpose as part of the allure. Well we about left. But then when we found our way I had a good time. There were some areas that I wasn't very interested in and others I could stare at. We spent about 2-3 hours there and had a little wine and bought some random coffee mug that looked like Frankenstein. I would say that everyone should go and check it out.
