The first beer they brought out to me on a somewhat-dead Monday night was not cold. In fact, I wondered whether it was worth making a fuss about asking to send it back for something colder. Not 3 minutes after ordering my burger, another patron put his arms on the shoulder of the guy sitting next to me at the bar, leaned in and said "the burger was no beuno, order something else". Oh boy. (He was WRONG, read on...) I asked to try a different beer in hopes of getting something colder. After about 10 minutes passed, it was obvious that Beer 2.0 was forgotten and never delivered. Flagged bartender down again, asked if I could get my beer. The IPA came out and was just as warm as the first beer. In the end the burger was actually the best thing about this experience - it was juicy, well-cooked. The side salad with the citrus dressing was also excellent. Traveling through town, we stayed at the Towneplace Suites across the street. It was so good the first night, came back the next night. Beer is exceptionally good. The menu is extensive for a brew pub. Very unique spin on a lot of usual foods. Quality is excellent, portion size very good. Staff is awesome. It's a downtown location near the river and in the industrial side of Dubuque. I sat at the bar and had a microbrew and ordered the beef brisket. By observation, the amount is plentiful but the cut wasn't great, lots of fat and hardly any edible meat. The sides were very good and the service was about average for this trendy place. Great local brewery. In the old mill area. We were immediately greeted by multiple employees. Service was attentive, knowledgeable and fast. Had the pulled pork sandwich with the 7 Hills sauce. A group of 15 coworkers and I came in late to eat, and despite the kitchen being closed, the general manager Mike Bries not only opened the kitchen for us, but made two of the vegan individuals a delicious custom vegan burrito loaded with grilled vegetables and a side of fries. 7 hills is a solid choice for some American food with decent beer. I recommend this place to anyone who wants a middle of the road pricing with a lot of food choices. The only problem is if they are short staffed. The food always suffers and unfortunately goes from good to terrible. Never skip out on their pretzel bites, especially if they are fresh! Pairs fantastic with one of their beers. This is the second best brewery in Dubuque their staple beers are always consistent in taste and quality, but never really have a stand-out brew to highly recommend. Would like to see more bold flavors and try to breakout more into the Iowa brewery scene with an amazing beer. read more

My husband and I work in healthcare and are stressed, and like everyone else, want our little pieces of stress relief. Epic food and beer!! Got into Dubuque late in the evening on a frigid winter nite and most places were shut down early. Headed to 7 Hills and was so glad I did. Tried a flight and had some great potential, the Driftless hazy IPA was really good (IPAs are my thing). However the 7Hill Burger was off the hook. Basic burger but so tasty with the rings on it. Visited Dubuque for a wedding and stopped by in between the ceremony and reception. We tried the spinach dip, which was amazing! And each had different drinks. My husband and I had beers and our friend had the Bloody Mary. We loved everything so much that we came back after the reception for more drinks. The place was clean with a good atmosphere. I visited a couple weeks ago on my way back from Galena, IL. The place was big, service was great, and the happy hour prices couldn't be beat. $2 for a pretty good sized beer. Found in the recently remodeled "Millwork District" 7Hills is found on an email unassuming corner and looks like it may be small from the outside but has you walk it it looks like the great halal from Harry Potter. It has aging beer barrels lined in the front next to their in house brewery. Has a huge horse shoe bar with a bunch of different in house brews that are all good. It also has a huge stage right behInd the bar. It is "lumber jack" style seating so may have to sit next to another party if yOu don't sIt at the bar. Always hold cool events, when I was there, it was rock star bingo for beers, unexpectedly fun. All the food is unique and good.
