Gas prices however are not on the low end. My most recent was $2.99 and others were $2.79 or lower. The area around pumps was debris free and they offered washer fluid. They also offer an air pump. I needed to use the restroom and found them clean. The stock of drinks were full, but the items they fix like wings, pizza and dogs were empty. The cashier smiled and was friendly. I was a bit disappointed they were pretty much out of bakery items, and a lot of convenience food such as hot dogs, pizza, chicken wings, sandwiches, etc. When we went to pay and asked if we find everything ok, I jokingly said I was sad I didn't see any hotdogs. Gas prices are always fair and staff inside are friendly. Easy and convenient on base. But it is surrounded by development. There's absolutely no room for expansion. In the mid 80's, before the internet, it was the closest spot to get the Sunday editions of the Washington Post & New York Times. You had to be there early. Those papers sold out quickly. It's been a long time since I've been inside the store itself. My reason for choosing this spot was that it was the last day before my 7-Eleven Rewards fuel discount expired. There was no doubt that I would use this location. The App has started highlighting the 7-Eleven with the lowest price. Normally most in the Independence Corridor have the same price. But I noticed while doing errands that a 7-Eleven where I stop often had a pump price of $4.04. This location was $3.99. Since I had a 45 cents discount my price per gallon was a discounted to an amount that would have made me gasp a few months ago. My tank wasn't even near empty. But that wasn't a discount that could be missed.

The line to check out was backed up 8-10 people the 20 minutes I was there. Appears a newer cashier that was not ready for prime time was put in charge. Once another woman came in she immediately needed help with hitting a wrong button on the cash register. I come here a whole lot, so this is over several visits. Today's experience would have been a 1, but I'm keeping it an average. If I continue to see negative service and cleanliness issues I will update and downgrade once again. I'm one time I couldn't open up a bag of sunflower seeds that I purchased and the sweet cashier behind the counter pulled out this tool specifically for opening bags and opened it for me. Another time I couldn't get my gas cap off and Mr. Drew came out to the gas pump and provided assistance. Th e store, parking lot and bathrooms are always clean. An update is overdue it's been a few years and the store has declined further. Let's get real on the exterior, it's painful to look at and needs immediate attention with paint. The 11 years I've been a customer I don't think a new coat had been applied. That alone is worth a 1 star deduction. The parking lot is also rough with holes. Today the soda machine was under repairs and cover off. A bad day considering I just came from McDonalds and they were down too! The manager said the ice was broken machine was broken, soda working. So he tossed a bag of ice out with gloves to get ice. The overall interior of the store is worn down from walls, to floor to shelves. It's in a sad state and needs an overhaul or better yet close it. The coffee passes, nothing special. I discussed the sad state of exterior paint with an employee and he said the landlord will not do anything, there hands are tied. I say you threaten to move when lease is up. They must have some leverage. I would never go out of my way for this store and if it was not so convenient I don't think others would either.

Not a problem on its own, but you do need some life experience and tact to be a manager of a hardware store where most of you're customers know more than anyone the store. I blame the owners of the store, not the young people, but still... it sucks for customers that need any sort of help or problem solved. I went in for Stihl hearing protection and the box was ripped in several places and soaked in oil! The head set itself was just loose in the box with no packaging and not clean. Theres no way it was new and they knew it, yet refused to do anything or acknowledge the problem. They offered no discount, no alternative at a matched price, nothing. Not my first issue with this garbage business, just the latest and the reason I'm done giving them money.
