We decided to stop and check it out. It's a cute shed-shaped building with the unique characteristic of being a chalkboard! I haven't seen this at any other restaurant. The bottom half is coated in a chalk friendly blackboard paint, and sidewalk chalk sits on the counter allowing you to draw on the ground or even the ice cream shop while you wait. There is also a nice seating area off tot eh side with lights overhead. The hard ice cream is thankfully Perry's like many others in the region, but the flavor list isn't too long. However it does have some flavors I haven't seen at many other places, like Grasshopper Pie (which I got and love), pineapple orange, and peach! They also offer sundaes and drinks. Despite being off the main business road for Lakewood, I can see this being a popular spot due to its proximity to the new Chautauqua Harbor Hotel and Lucille Ball Park.

We arrived in Jamestown late afternoon on a recent Monday, conducted a bit of personal business, then decided to go to dinner. We did not realize that most restaurants roll up (not out) the carpet Mondays. There was simply no place open for a quick dinner. Fortunately we stopped for gas and were pleasantly surprised at that Red Apple was open and able to make some fresh, hot food that fit our needs. Very congenial staff, fairly good selection of items from which to choose...and fresh sandwiches made to order.

In store sub line still sucks and it's still slow, but if you pre-order on the app for pickup it's great 80% of the time now. They did cut the meat portions by like 50% in the last 2 1/2 years,forget things like the extra oil on the side, cut it wrong, forget toppings, skimp on toppings... here and there, but it's better than it was. Sushi: 4.5 stars out of 5. Filling portions have gone down some in the last 2 1/2 years, but quality is still good. It's rare to get old mushy avocado in their sushi now. They always have great new rolls to try. Staff are always friendly working that section too. Pizza: 3 stars out of 5. Staff really like to chit chat with the already snail slow sub station staff and take their sweet time. Skimpy on toppings. Not very good pizza especially in NY where we have amazing pizza all over. Since then, Dairy Queen as a whole has been displaced from the top of my list, first by Harvey's then by Burgermeester. (And now, the new and improved A&W has snuck past DQ into third place.) But still, if I'm looking for a burger and there's a DQ in the area, I'll go there more often than not. But, sadly, not this one. It's not actually bad, you understand. But it just kind of feels like they're phoning it in. I'd still take this DQ over, say, McDonald's. But it's just not as good as other DQs. (And, unfortunately, with Sheetz, Burger King, and Arby's all fairly close, it's just got too much competition for my taste buds.) I don't wish them ill, but they need to pull up their socks to get back in the game.

The team member at the front counter was quick to take our order and was polite. Looking over the rest of the kitchen, it appeared the staff was adhering to all food safety and health standards. The restaurant was clean. It's hard to find another place with as much value as DQ. You get a lot of food for a little cost. The food and ice cream was out quickly and tasted great. The Blizzard was mixed perfectly and I was getting candy in just about every bite. Overall, this was a great experience and I plan to make one more stop here before I return home.

The other drink I ordered actually came in the Venti cup but the quad shot latte only had one or two shots of espresso at most. I ordered "No Foam" and "No Room" and of course it had foam and only filled to about an inch & 1/2 to the top. This location consistently gets my order wrong and today is the last day I will give my business to this incompetent excuse of the Starbucks brand. I'll go across the street to the Starbucks kiosk in Target from now on. Oh and I won't miss the undersized parking lot and sh*t show the ever present drive-thru traffic jam causes. Good riddance.
