This giant has some pros and cons…read more Pros - location - it is literally across the street from my home, so it's the most convenient location for me to do my grocery shopping - hours - until recently, I always thought that all Giants were open until midnight, but apparently not! Considering my late work hours, the flexibility to shop according to my availability is huge to me Cons - it's not the cleanest - there's often things laying around the floor, and it doesn't seem as clean as other Giants I've been to - similar to the above, it's not the most organized or well stocked - there just seems to be a lack of effort that's put into this location Cons aside, this will continue to be my primary grocery store due to the location and hours, but if I didn't live here, I'd probably choose another option.

This Giant grocery remains a hugely depressing experience. It's a zoo, not a clean, modern grocery…read morestore. Management doesn't care. Security just stands and does nothing while a homeless guy basically camps out in front of the doors (and last week when it was cold, they let him sit INSIDE on a bench while he pigged out on food given to him!). Also a dude regularly goes around with an empty cart, bothering customers to buy his book of,poetry (?!). I've seen shoplifters just pack up their backpacks with laundry detergent and security does nothing. The outside sidewalks are dark and grimy - anyone heard of pressure spray? Downtown Silver Spring deserves better than this for people who can't afford to shop at Whole Paycheck or Mom's. I've written to Giant Corporate and store management: no one does anything.

Beyond frustrating. Exasperating. There are never enough registers open and not enough staff…read moreoversight of the self checkout stations. What is this about? Why install self-checkouts and then not make sure that they are operating smoothly and moving along? This is the big problem at this store for me, and it has only gotten worse over the years. The lines are often slow, long and longer. I want to emphasize that other aspects of shopping here are pretty okay, although I have had to adjust my standards several times over the years.... Produce is better than it used to be in terms of freshness and availability, and staff like shelf-stockers are generally pleasant and happy to answer questions. There is good variety/selections in most departments, but prices are higher than other stores in the area. (For example, donuts are about $1 each most other stores in the area, but Thayer sells them for almost $1.50 each.) I mean, this is a neighborhood grocery store, not a tourist spot. My last point is about Safeway in general, not this store: so many products are listed as on sale for electronic discounts only while there are also other discounts like member prices and store coupons, etc. Life is much too hectic to be coordinating list making, online tagging, and all that. I gave up. I live just a couple of blocks from this store but go to the trouble of a drive to local Giant for a less frustrating experience. I hope that management checks these reviews and makes necessary changes-- I don't want things to get worse bec of the negative reviews. Too many people cannot make the drive to another store and this needs to be neighborhood grocery store that is meets local needs.

Disappointing and embarrassing experience. I was shopping with a personal backpack and reusable bag…read morebecause of the store's restrictive bag policy. While browsing produce, I briefly placed a bag of kale in my backpack while continuing to shop openly in plain view. An employee approached me near the seafood counter and essentially implied I might be stealing, telling me I needed to take it out of my bag because he "didn't want me to get in trouble." The interaction felt unnecessary, humiliating, and accusatory -- especially since I was not hiding merchandise or behaving suspiciously. What made it worse was that the store seemed understaffed in areas that actually affect customer service: most checkout lanes were closed, customers were forced into self-checkout, and basic assistance throughout the store was lacking. I understand stores have loss prevention concerns, but there's a respectful and professional way to handle those situations. Instead of making paying customers feel singled out, management should focus on improving customer service and staffing.

Make sure you at the bottom of any packaged items. I've found mold on my snap peas and garlic. I went today for tomatoes and it was hard to find an actual red one. The prices have gone up almost 75% post Covid. They have always doubled the price for any American products. The precut turkey legs were very gray, so i opted out. The tub of ice cream use to be around $4, it is now $8. The same tub is cheaper at Sam's Club and Costco. Once I was done and went to the line. They FORCE...FORCE YOU TO USE DEBIT. If you have a card that has both debit and credit....they do not know how to change it. I asked for a manager. They said he left and there was no one to talk to. The cashiers do not speak English very well. It was absolutely ridiculous. I forgot why I stopped coming before this visit but now I remember. I won't be back. Lost customer.

Over all this is a good place do your shopping but only thing is the check out. One star out because the check out is alwasy horrendous. The check out lines are alwasy closed. You will have to wait a good 20+ minutes just to check out on a normal day, weekends can take you longer and thats why I don't go there unless its very needed.

I paid for my iced coffee then stood in line at a regular register. The cashier asked me how much I wanted on the card; I replied $100. After several attempts at trying to ring it up without any luck, he told me to go to customer service. While waiting in the customer service line, the store manager comes up and says I need to purchase that at a regular register and not customer service. I showed him the cashier who told me to go to customer service. We both walked over to the register and he asked me for my ID and then analyzed my credit card to see that they matched!!! I was humiliated and embarrassed SO MUCH that I started crying and said: I have NEVER been asked to show ID to buy a gift card! I have never been required to verify the credit card was indeed mine! He said that was their policy for gift cards over $100... since when??? The store owner really should look at the store cameras for February 5th so they can see how awful I was treated by the tall bald-headed manager! I went back to the coffee bar and the kind staff member asked me what's wrong but I was so distraught, I couldn't clearly say... I have been coming to this location since 2016; and although the store environment is under construction, customer service should still be top-notch.

They obviously had no knowledge of the store's stock and one of them said "if we had them they would be in the baking aisle." No warm "how can I help you," no smiles, no offers to help me search. Is this Whole Foods definition of customer service? Is this all the store manager expects of the store's employees? Sad. Also: I noticed that the store managers only respond to good reviews on here. This shows how little they care about customer satisfaction. I say it's time to get new managers who care about the store's customers and tram their employees to be warm, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Wow! What a concept!

I was saddened by the decision to close the base and I think having a facility to care for veterans inside our city limits was important both symbolically and practically, and while the complex was still in various stages of construction when I stopped in, the hospital that once stood near here was not recognizably present. As to the store itself, it has a lot of standard things you'd expect to see, but I found some nice items on clearance. Self-checkout was available, if marginally functional, and I found a set of single-stall bathrooms to be a welcome development, but they were only available after checking out at the register. There was a lot of weird bush league behavior going on, including a car standing out front double parked after the driver dodged in for what I assume was an online order pickup. It seems like this largely vacant complex should have easier parking and more efforts to discourage bad behavior, but apparently I expect too much.

Not many cars were in the garage on a Sunday night. I needed milk, but I also came to buy some pastries for breakfast. I got pumpkin scones and almond croissants. Both were good, but not the most flavorful. I'm kind of partial to my French bakeries in Bethesda. However, if parking is always this easy, then I may make this my regular Whole Foods over Downtown Silver Spring. You do need to take a ticket, but then you self stamp your ticket at the machine by the door like the WF in College Park. It was very dark when I exited and took a few wrong turns to get back home the easy way. I will try again!
