It was the worst margarita I've ever had unfortunately. While there was plenty of alcohol in the drink there was absolutely no margarita flavor. I had 2 sips and my husband gave it a try. He couldn't stomach it either. We paid and left. Only good thing was the bartender was really sweet.

Long bar, service good, bartenders did a decent job taken care of you. Not a ton of seating, but there was an ample amount. There is several pool tables as well. They have an area in near the back which includes seating, but it's used for karaoke on Saturday nights, the DJ who runs it, does a nice job along with the songs and words printed out in several places for the singer to follow along and sing. What was interesting, some of the Locals show up dressed in costumes. Hilarious. One thing I didn't like was I'm from up north, and you can't light up a cigarette anywhere in the Midwest, as it's been banned. Here in Florida or at least in this bar, people smoke wherever. Now it doesn't seem too bad as the airflow is decent, they must have good ventilation . However I went to where Im staying, and I smelled like an ashtray. Drinks are pretty good, they have a decent variety, and as I said before , the bartenders make decent pours, and provide the appropriate alcohol amount. Prices aren't bad. I have no complaints there, not a lot of beer selection, but you're in a dive bar , so why would you expect anything different than most popular beers. you'd find in the liquor stores? We had a good time and will return. Place was well organized and seemed fairly safe . Like any bar , I'm sure they have problems from time to time with patrons, but no trouble tonight. Worth a stop.

We were happy to find out that Growler's was right near where we were staying, so we headed over on a Saturday evening during happy hour ($1 off drafts). Happy hour on Saturday? I'm ready to move to Sarasota. The atmosphere inside is nice and casual without being grimy. Even the bathrooms are clean! The bartenders that we had were awesome -- friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a couple of beers and although there was sound background music playing, it wasn't TOO loud to have a conversation, like a lot of bars (at least in Miami). There's no food at Growler's, but the bartender suggested that we order from one of the nearby restaurants and have them bring it over. We ended up leaving to eat, explore a bit, and then return to Growler's later that night for some live music. However, we did see some people order food and the restaurant nextdoor walked the food right over. Around 9 or so, a couple of bands started playing. It seems like a pretty cool place where new artists can get a start. One of the women who played said it was her first show ever. The bands were pretty good and the bar started to fill up as the night progressed. If we return to Sarasota, we'll hit Growler's up again for a laid back night.

One of the big draws is the price of the drinks. Currently $2.25 for a draft, $2.50 for a bottle, $2.75 for regular well drinks during the daytime until 7 p.m. It opens at 8 a.m. Now if you like dive bars (no food), and an array of real characters, this is the place for you. It seems most of the regulars are from the area and it has more than its quota of alcoholics, but they are friendly and have fascinating stories about their lives. It is a comfortable place to spend some time and the bartenders are, in my experience, terrific. No judgment, no politics, no fancy clothing, no pretense, just human beings who share their lives together. Come as you are.
