I bought a pair of Banana Republic pants online, and when I tried them on I looked like a DORK. I looked like a 10 year old wearing his dads pants. They fit in the waist but were about 6 inches too long on the bottom. I brought them into BR but they told me that as of last week, they charge for hemming. This actually pissed me off so much since I bought the pants before that rule went into effect, but whatever. I have been a LOYAL Banana customer too... There was NO chance I was giving BR anymore of my money, purely out of spite. I ended up taking them here, as it was the closest tailor to me. I walked into this hole in the wall tailor shop and immediately felt like I time traveled to the 1980s. Two guys just sitting there going HAM with their old school 2 sewing machines, the lines walled with clothes in plastic bags ready to be picked up and rolls of cloth for repairs. I was in here less than 3 minutes all together. I tried the pants on, he laughed, rolled them up and asked me "dis good?" YURP! I walked back and picked them up a day later, $25 cash. BANANA REPUBLIC COULD NEVER! I wore them a few days later to my date night at Il Buco, and felt like a mf Soprano. See attached pic. THANK YOU 55 EXPRESS! IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews read more

These guys saved the day!! Had a dress snafu 2 days before an event. Pivoted and managed to find a beautiful jumpsuit that needed tightening on top. Walked in, was told it'd be a lot of work because of the fabric etc but that he'd be able to have it for me in a few days. Told him I needed it done ASAP. My event was the next day. Not only did he get it done the next day, he had it ready for me to pick up hours before he initially told me. The jumpsuit fit perfectly and I absolutely cannot tell it has been altered. Five stars all around!! So happy I found them :) read more

Rafael and his team are some of the best tailors in the business! I stopped by the shop after getting turned away from other locations regarding the alteration work I needed on my suit jacket; Rafael was very patient in closely examining the garments and made it happen over night -- the work turned out be absolutely excellent! I also dropped off trousers and a coat which I needed shortened and he was able to turn them around overnight with the specifications I needed. If you are in need of a quick alterations overnight, done with great care and precision, Rafael and his team will definitely get it done! Looking forward to returning to the shop for all my alteration needs in the near future. read more

I LOVE 55 Express Tailor! I have been going to Rafael since his days at 55 Clinton. I no longer live in downtown Manhattan, but I still make the trip for all my tailoring needs because there is no one else I trust more for a fair price and alteration. I've brought everything his way from Halloween costumes, bridesmaid dresses, work clothes to jeans and have yet to be disappointed. I often joke he's a magician because not only can he fix anything, he manages to do it in an insanely quick turnaround time. He explains his process and is honest about the best approach to get the desired look or fit you're trying to achieve. I am so grateful to have found his store and would recommend him to anyone. read more

I picked this place due to its location and, more importantly, the positive Yelp ratings. The expert tailor did an amazing job on altering the waist of 3 different pair of pants with all different needs. Just by sight, he knew what needed to be done. In less than an hour, I had 3 pairs of pants completely altered, with no visible signs of any work done on them, at a reasonable price. The tailor is an artist! Most professional and precise tailoring in New York. This small shop has been my 'go-to' tailor for 15 years. The owner is on site and has always been the consummate professional with all my tailoring needs. He has tailored to a custom fit many of my flight attendant uniforms, dresses and even a fur coat! He is exceptionally friendly and highly professional and fast at all times. As a matter of fact, he has essentially re-created complex pieces for me such as blazers and shirts, creating a true bespoke custom fit; with the fastest turn around times possible. This is an old school 'real deal' tailor and his services / skills are a privilege to behold! Do not let the small size of the shop fool you-- this is THE BEST tailor in town. No doubt about it! read more

This placed saved my life and I recommend you going there for everything. After being told I was "just to big" when asking another place about an alteration of a vintage piece that unfortunately didn't fit me anymore due to my work outs...I cried and then walked into 55 Express Tailor hoping for another answer Rafael looked at my piece and we discussed the possibilities. In a matter of days my outfit was altered and fit me amazingly. When I picked up my dress 2 other customers, who seemed to be regulars, were there to drop off and pick up clothes. Rafael addressed everyone by name and made sure to make their schedules. Smiles all around. I will only be going there for now on and recommend everyone to go. You will never cry about your clothes again! Not only was the work amazing, the prices are fair and he is fast at his craft. read more
