On Saturday, I drove over to Common Good Beer Company. Crosstown Craft Barbeque (CCB) was holding a popup event here. CCB had its first popup event at another beer place, but decided to try a different location. All meats were sold out by the time I got to the first event, so I needed another take. The popup started at 1 pm. I got here at 12:45 pm. Common Good is on the south side of Ellesmere, east of Warden Avenue. Although I was coming from the east, I recommend going eastbound on Ellesmere to turn right and get to this place safely. Common Good is in a small plaza. Eggsmart anchors this plaza. I had no problem finding a parking spot. I backed into an available one. I recommend backing into a spot because the distance between the two rows of parking is narrow. I like that Common Good has a lot of glass. I could see the lineup had already started. I waited in line. There was a bit of an issue with something, but it was fixed and customers were being served. Only two meats were sold out by the time I got to the front: - Turkey breast - Beef ribs Maybe it's me. I was surprised that the turkey went first. I would have thought that perhaps folks needed a break from turkey from Easter. Nope, it had sold out in a flash. Folks at CCB are nice. I ordered a bunch of goodies that didn't duplicate the sides that I had ordered two weeks ago: - Brisket - Spare ribs - Pork belly burnt ends - Cheddar jalapeno sausage - Mac and cheese - Coleslaw - Cornbread pudding I paid with a credit card. I tapped and tipped. All was great. I got a tray with my food. I got complimentary mustard and barbeque sauces. I also got pickled onions and pickles. Oh, and I needed a lid. On my way out, I saw a fridge full of craft beer and more. I had to check it out. I had a hard time figuring out if I wanted the Japanese rice beer or the dark lager. I went with the latter. I immediately saw field berry hard seltzer. I grabbed one. The woman at the counter was friendly and nice. She thanked me for supporting local. Common Good is all for supporting local businesses in Scarborough. I paid for my cans with a credit card. I tapped and all was good. This woman was so nice. She saw me with my tray and sides, and now cans of booze. She got me a paper bag with handles. I loaded my sides and cans into it. It helped a lot! I thanked her and left the store. Although I feel like I may have ordered way too much food from CCB, it was worth it. I have been eating a bunch of meals from it. The meats were half a pound each. They taste even better the longer they are left over. I can't pick a favourite protein. The brisket was so tender. The pork belly was on the fattier side, which gave you more flavour. The spareribs were so much better a day later. Meaty and yummy. The cheddar jalapeno sausage is my favourite sausage that I have had so far this year. It had the right combination of heat, meat, and cheese. I love sides. The mac and cheese had large shells, which made me happy. I liked the breadcrumbs on top. I love mac and cheese. I feel that there needed to be more sauce. Otherwise, it was solid tastewise. The coleslaw was excellent. It was garlicky, crunchy, creamy, vinegary, and delicious. Full marks! It also turned purple as time elapsed, which was cool. The cornbread pudding was also a pleasant surprise. It had chocolate mixed in with cornbread. It was dense and delightful to consume. I will be back for more field berry hard seltzer. It was excellent to down while watching game 7 between the Dallas Stars (more like the Rantanen show) and Colorado Avalanche. The berry flavour was perfect. It was cold and refreshing. It's the perfect lighter option as the weather gets warmer and nicer. I had the Japanese dark lager last night watching the Toronto Maple Leafs win their game against the Florida Panthers. The dark part had chocolate and caramel, which added so much flavour depth to the beer. The folks at CCB are so nice. They let me know that the next popup won't be here because the seating isn't as abundant as the other venue. It's true. However, the seating is more inviting here due to the number of plants soaking up all the sunshine that naturally beams in. I'm so glad that I dropped by Common Good. I'll be back for more beer and seltzer. I also want to get some empanadas from Juicy Empanada. This store also has a decent selection of pop (I saw Fanta in orange and pineapple) and snacks. It did not disappoint! The vibes here are immaculate with lots of locals from the community hanging out. It's dog friendly which makes it a plus! They even have a wall of dog photos and a treat jar for all the doggie visitors. I'm not a beer drinker myself, but everyone I went with really enjoyed their pints. They have an extensive beer list on tap and a retail shop for you to bring home your favourite beers in a can! The highlight for me was Patterson's pizza that is permanently there as a popup now, from Friday to Sundays! The pizza was definitely a 10/10 and neapolitan style - can't wait to come back for more. Light and refreshing and easy to drinking! $155 for a 58L Keg includes delivery to GTA and Toronto area. Maybe I can just have a party and invite all my friends over next time? I wonder how many people need to finish a keg? PS Amber Brewery does have a website where you can place your order online and pay using your credit card through Pay Pal, how convenient that is?

There was a Crosstown Craft Barbeque (CCB) popup that I wanted to check out. I did grocery shopping to roast a turkey for Easter and more. This popup started at 1 pm. I got here at 2 pm. I parked on the street. All parking spots in front and on the side of the building were taken up. I walked in and noticed the long line for CCB. I lined up. It was risky coming so late. This place has something like twenty different varieties of beer on tap. I got to witness this awesomeness while I waited in line. The bar was busy, especially with the Canada-Finland women's hockey game on. This bar-eatery-brewery is spacious. There is a lot of seating to accommodate popup and regular customers. Sure enough, there were maybe five customers in front of me when we got word that all meats were sold out. I was oddly not as disappointed as I should have been. I knew that my late arrival would have consequences. There were sides available, which made me happy. The owners felt bad about running out of proteins, so anyone in line got free banana pudding. I got the following items: - Smokey beans - Potato casserole - Banana pudding I paid for the first two items with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I got my items in a plastic bag. I was happy and headed to my car with my goodies. For lunch, I ended up going to Wendy's to get some protein to compliment my sides. I just realized that I went crazy for beans, as I got chili from Wendy's. The smokey beans lived up to their name. They were smokey. I loved them. It had three types of beans, either pork belly or bacon, and the best smokey sauce. The flavour was perfect. The potato casserole was excellent. It had cubed potatoes in a creamy sauce with green onions. It was like a baked potato, but without bacon and in casserole form. So good! The banana pudding was yummy. The main two beers here are from Weihenstephaner(oldest active brewery in the world) a Hefeweizen and a Dunkleweizen both wheat beers. No electricity, No refrigeration, No machinery... Everything are done by hand with no chemical or preservatives! This is different than the commercial version that they sell in LCBO. We ended up tasting 3 samples - Rifleman's Ration - brewed especially for the season is unfiltered brown ale, caramel and earthy taste Stout - really flat, taste just like medicine.. but apparently rich in iron IPA - really interesting taste as it is brewed with a citrus hop, quite difference than the usual IPA Tour itself is really interesting! Not only about the historic brewing method but a great lesson of Ontario's beer history. The costumed guide was quite entertaining and I love how all the participants were involved. We were all assigned as one of the historical characters: Brewers, Politicians, Tavern Owners, Temperance Advocates* At the end of the tour, you also able to purchase a 2 L growler with beers that are brewed on site ($12+$4 deposit). The only downside is in order to visit the brewery, $15 admission to the Pioneer Village has to be paid on top of the tour itself! If not I won't mind coming to the Brewery Pub to have a drink of their special brews!! And if you drive, $7 extra for parking! Whoever has that Mancave setup with 70" LED Smart Flatpanel TV, gimme a shout. 150+ years from now, someone will laugh at you about that historic LED Smart TV. As I smirked at the quality of Historic-style Brown Ale, Stout and IPA provided to us. Here's the catch. Historic Brewery Tour serves up Beer the Historic way, as it was. No frosted Beer Can showing you it has reached Rocky Mountain Coldness. Why? Think back when you were 150 years younger. Electricity, Fridge, Machinery. Nada. It so happens even Carbonation didn't exist. Flat lukewarm Beers anyone? So you've tried Black Creek from your local LCBO? Doesn't taste as bad as I've said? Those Bottles my dear Friend are made at a separate Commercial Brewing Facility. I have a couple in the Fridge myself waiting for something historic to happen, cheers. They had a wonderful array of options, and I did the tasting flight back then that consisted of two whiskeys and two gin's. I don't remember most of the visit because the spirits were very strong, but I do remember the elderberry gym being fantastic! I remember sitting at the bar and being taken care of and the bartender, being very thorough and polite with explaining each spirit and what hors d'oeuvres it would pair well with. I love the old factory/warehouse vibe of the distillery. The building looked very old from the outside with a more modern interior. It was definitely a highlight of the trip and something I would highly recommend for any avid whiskey drinker.

Check and double-check, mission accomplished. This is a brewery so let's start with the beer. I've been here 5 or 6 times now and have tried many of the beers on tap. They are all very good to down-right excellent with a large variety that's sure to please any beer lover. My personal favourite to date has been the Pinot Noir IPA which is super smooth with an interesting wine finish. Great stuff here! The ambiance is great, the brewery is in the old fire house and is decorated emphasizing the history of the space. One of the bartenders is even a real firefighter, how cool is that? On many Saturday afternoons they have live music which adds a great vibe. A duo called JJ & Alyssa are playing right now and the live music experience is fantastic! Oh, they have a couple of leather sofas that my older Golden Nessie is going to LOVE. I might buy a house in the neighborhood just to be walking distance to this brewery, high praise indeed. Stop in and check it out, you won't be disappointed.
