The resort is now owned by a REIT (real estate investment trust), which typically focuses on maximizing profits by cutting costs--and unfortunately, the effects are noticeable. What We Enjoyed: - The staff and instructors were wonderful, and the classes remain a highlight of the stay. Where It Fell Short: - The renovations have stripped much of the resort's former charm. The spaces now feel commercial and impersonal. - The dining room, once cozy, now resembles a nursing home cafeteria. - Beautiful, home-like furniture has been replaced with generic Westin-style pieces. - Harsh LED sconces and bright LED bulbs in the room diminished the tranquil atmosphere. We often had to keep the lights off to avoid being blinded. - Meals were acceptable in taste but frequently served lukewarm rather than hot, which was especially disappointing for soups. Overall, while the people and programming remain excellent, the atmosphere and attention to detail have been compromised under the new management. This resort used to feel like a home away from home, but now it feels like a commercial property prioritizing margins over guest experience and sub par value based on pricing.

I understand businesses need cancellation policies, but I was surprised that a luxury resort chose not to exercise any discretion in an emergency. Prospective guests should be aware that if something beyond your control prevents you from arriving, you will lose your entire deposit.

The views from the deck & the bedroom are gorgeous. There was always a nice breeze blowing while we sat in the rocking chairs relaxing on the deck overlooking the lake. Bruce met us out front shortly after we arrived while we were unloading our bags. The Tree Lodge has its own private entry & stairway so there is plenty of privacy, but at the same time Bruce was close at hand if we ever needed anything. Fortunately, I know the Austin area fairly well & there were no problems with the room so other than recommending a couple of places to eat & ride (we were on the motorcycle) we had privacy the whole weekend. Speaking of places to eat, I would recommend that you try County Line BBQ on FM 2222. Great place w/ good food. The Oasis is nice for a margarita & a wonderful view, but the food is just so-so & a little pricey for what you get. Bruce recommended a place on Hudson Bend not far from the Tree Lodge (I can't remember the name but it was a Mexican cafe) and they served a delicious breakfast. If you get downtown, try Corazon on the Castle...especially for Happy Hour. Bruce also recommended the Iguana, which is on 620 not far from the Tree Lodge but we never made it there. As far places to see, you should check out Mt Bonnell, which is also off of 2222 about 2 miles past County Line BBQ. The Oasis is a must-see even if you just go there for dessert or a drink. Take some time to drive some of the roads in NW Austin. Also check out the bats under the Congress Street bridge. Go to the TGIF at the Radisson on Cesar Chavez about an hour before sunset & get a table on the patio. At dusk they come out & fly down the river (Lake Austin). Barton Springs is nice & a tour of the Capitol as well. And, obviously, you gotta try 6th street for some good music & even better "people watching". Overall, the Tree Lodge was a great place to stay. The only thing that could make it better is if there were a hammock & a hot tub. The only negatives would be the hot water doesn't last long (just enough time for 2 adults to shower if you hurry) & the fridge is kind of small. Keep in mind that this is not really a B&B. There is not really anything to eat in the Tree Lodge but Austin is like a food Mecca so there are plenty of places to eat and, if you prefer to stay in the whole weekend, you can just bring your own as there is a microwave & a fridge. We plan on coming back again. Thanks again Bruce for a nice place to hide away & for the suggestions on where to ride. We enjoyed the ride out Hamilton Pool Road & the breakfast at the place on Hudson Bend was delicious!

There were helpful reading materials to get to know the area or books just for casual reading, along with a nice bottle of vino to toast to our 34 years together. Such a serene setting to sit on the deck to enjoy the view-- as though we were the only two within miles. Enjoyed the birds at the feeders and bird bath. Very accommodating spacious place for our 3 nights there! In the future we'd make this our place to return to.

We wished the couch folded out so the 4th person could have their own sleeping space without having to share beds. Not enough outlets in the rooms for phone chargers and no lamps or side tables in the bedroom. This was okay for one night in Austin but would be very uncomfortable to stay longer. Also the parking garage is only accessible through an app but there is NO cell service in the garage. Getting out was a struggle. We had to walk the phone up the ramp to get a good enough signal to press the gate open button in the app. Which would have been impossible if I was a solo traveler. Concierge was extremely patient and accommodating but the property could use some improvement to be more convenient and comfortable for guests.

The beds are super comfy, even the futon opens out to an actual queen-sized bed, not some cheap piece of foam. This place is as close as you get to perfect. The hosts live on the property and are very helpful without being intrusive, (William's history is just incredible, he solved a business problem for us while we were there,) and our apartment was just as nice as it looks in the pictures if not nicer. Everything in the cottage has been painstakingly assembled. We surprised ourselves by playing 1970s Monopoly (U.S. edition) that was kept in one of the cupboards. Keeping with the 'keep it weird' theme Austin lives by, you'll find a magazines dedicated to chickens, chandelier hanging from the tree, an old camera on a tripod (manual hanging from it) being used as a lamp and much more. The daily breakfast is made from scratch and is always a pleasant surprise as it varies everyday. That with a garnish of conversations with Shakti is always a great start to the day, as she is a repository of tips to make the most of your visit. This was like staying at one's aunt's place; it's not perfect but that's the point!

This place has zero integrity & hospitality. You can't trust anything they advertise. They do not enforce the leash rules, causing leashed dogs to be ambushed by off leash dogs which is a huge safety issue, as it creates a fight or flight response in dogs. I was blown off for days in my request that they enforce the leash rule they advertise. I simply asked that I am able to choose if I want to introduce my dog to other dogs, but at Austonia you do not have that right. In my persistence in requesting that they enforce this leash rule, I was threatened and bullied. The manager Tiffany was as confrontational and rude as they come. In response to my complaint, she threatened to kick me out because of my senior dogs breed, when really it's because I'm asking them to enforce their own leash rules. So basically they are going to enforce a breed rule on me because I am complaining about them not enforcing the leash rule on others. They also do not guarantee your location, even if you pay extra to lock it in. They moved me on arrival and said they would refund the lock fee but didn't. Shame on you Austonia.

The host was lovely, came up to greet us and then led us to our RV site. From a pups perspective this place was 's (4paws). The RV sites are a great size. Concrete pads so no muddy paws here! The RV site was long enough for our 42' RV and longbed truck with room to spare! A good size grass area on each side of the RV, a shade tree for us to lay under! There was also an amazing meadow filled with grass, trees, a doggie bag / trash section and a path! The humans also liked that there was 50 amp power! And let's not forget sewer and water hookups!! Water pressure was great. RV sites are level! Oh and we mention this again cause it was important, enough room between you and your neighbor where you can have your curtains/ blinds up and not feel like you are in the neighbors living room nor hear them or their TV. There is no pool, playground or dog park, but they are enhancing their RV park so not sure what the future holds. None of that held us back from enjoying our stay. Did I mention the roads around the park? Nice and spacious, no tight turns, easy to get into your space and nice and wide for dog walking.... Oh and for driving Their motto is 'keep Austin weird' so we knew we'd fit in . Thankfully it was a very short drive to downtown Austin, 10-20 mins depending on traffic. Anyway a few pix, while it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some of the other parks, we really, really loved the feel and the space between RV sites as well as that meadow. We would have given one more if there was an enclosed dog park and or if the patios had tables / fire pits. Other than that, it was perfect. We would definitely stay here again. Oh and a tip. There is a nice park, Barkley Green Meadows, about a 5min drive ( you can take back roads or highway) that has a playground for your kids and plenty of walking paths to walk your pups
