Over the last four years, I have been a member at a LOT of different coworking places in Austin, and so far, Urban Co-Lab is my favorite of all the places I've tried so far. FUN FACT: I went to the grand opening and met the designer who decorated the space while still a college student! First of all, there is SUNLIGHT! Several coworking spaces I experienced here in Austin gave all the window seating to the reserved desks (understandable) leaving us lowly general coworking members to wilt under the fluorescent lighting. However, there is plenty of sunlight at Urban Co-Lab for all to enjoy. Secondly, the location is CLOSE TO MY HOUSE. It's an 8-minute drive from my place in Clarksville, so that makes me very happy. If you live in Central Austin, this is a great location. Thirdly, they have a huge dedicated PARKING LOT across the street from the building so you don't have to pay separately for parking. Fourthly (?), the FRIDGE IS CLEAN and has plenty of space for you to bring your lunch. There are also food trucks (and a coffee truck!) in the large backyard with picnic tables. Lastly, the coworking population is diverse--gender-wise and ethnicity-wise. At my last coworking space, a young man waltzed up to me at a networking event and said blithely, "Hi, I like your weave." EXCUSE ME?!!?! First of all, it wasn't a weave. Second of all, one doesn't say that to another person ever! This kind of incident wasn't common in the space, but it also didn't feel awesome being the ONLY Black person and one of the few women in the entire space every single day. Urban Co-Lab feels very welcoming and inclusive. I'm a native Austinite (yep, for real) who went to middle school and high school in East Austin, so I'm really happy to see this space pop up and hope that it is very successful. I'm looking forward to seeing what co-founders Natalie and Hanna do with the space and the community. If you're looking for a coworking space for just the day (they offer day passes), a few days a week (what I do), or for every day (what my assistant does), I recommend you check out Urban Co-Lab.

I did a tour a few days before the event with Greg and Carrie and they instantly became my teammates. They were very accommodating and willing to help with whatever vision we had. I worked with several venues and the charge for EVERYTHING but this was totally not the case. Anything they had, they made available! I was impressed and loved the mission of a community space for all and for all purposes. I love when ppl serve their purpose in life! They were truly apart of the team and had a keen sense of what community meant. Please check them out!

It has a nice quiet energy to it; just bustling enough to not feel like a you're at silent meditation retreat, but also not disruptively rambunctious. For day passes and general membership, there's a main lounge area with most of the seating that includes floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over a courtyard. There's more seating of various types sprinkled through the floor, including some with views of the river. At least three 'phone booths', but by 'booth', it's actually a small room with a phone that can fit two people easily, probably four if you did standing room only. The etiquette in the main spaces is that it's okay to take calls and such, and the overhead music isn't so loud as to disrupt. That said, the other little seating spaces nestled in the hallways might be better if you need more privacy but don't want to get into a phone booth. Lots of private office space of various sizes if you were interested in that. WiFi was trusty and much of the seating had adequate power outlets though the more lounge-style seating (sofas, etc.) seemed to lack good outlet access. The usual free coffee and tea. They let me stay a bit after 5pm, after they closed, even though I was on a day pass, so that was a nice touch. One final nice touch is that the chairs and tables in the main areas are fairy low. I'm not a tall person and sometimes coworking spaces value aesthetics over ergonomics and I end up in a short chair and a high table, typing like a T-Rex. Not the case here. Bathrooms: Clean, spacious, and functional. Nicely done!

We looked all around Austin to find a place that met our needs and settled on TechSpace. We called them to reserve some space and found out that they don't do that unless it was one of their private rooms. The other spaces are "first come", but the price was right. The employees were extremely nice and helpful. They gave us a tour of the facilities, explained how everything worked, showed us the kitchen, coffee, snacks, etc, and showed us the private rooms where you can get all your AV needs for your meetings. They fixed us up with WIFI, which was very fast, and let us choose where we wanted in the lower floor area. We ended up with an area that could have handled about 8 people, but was perfect for our needs. We liked this place enough that we have been back for multiple days of training. They don't have restaurants in the building, but they offer different food trucks each day. The trucks set up in the side area of the building and have some outside seating if you want to eat outside. We have eaten everything from downhome Southern cooking to Mexican, and they were all good. What kept this from being a 5 star location. Parking is a pain (may be that way all over downtown Austin) and locating this place the first time was difficult. Traffic was a pain also, but they can't do anything about that. Would I recommend this place? I will be back!!!

The WiFi was solid and there were lots of power outlets which might sound basic, but is always a lifesaver when you're running a bunch of devices. Bonus points for the downtown location , walkable to tons of great restaurants and coffee shops for lunch breaks or post-meeting hangouts. To give some background on Industrious - it's a standard co-working setup similar to any WeWork with a long laundry list of amenities (although I've heard WeWork has recently cut back...). This includes morning bagels, all the caffeine you need, as well as 3 - 4 events a week that include standard happy hours, etc. Unlike WeWork, the atmosphere is a little more mature. If WeWork was a person, it'd be a right-out-of college grad that jams out to the EDM in the lobby. Industrious feels a little more like someone in their late 20s / early 30s that puts on elevator music or slow jazz in the lobby. Personally, WeWork felt perfect for a Silicon-Valley startup trying to drive that growth mentality, while Industrious felt better suited for a small professional services firm that would wear business casual to entertain clients on a regular basis. The pricing is comparable to other coworking spaces both in terms of membership and office space, although their membership options were somewhat restricted to keep the density manageable. Again, many thanks to Margaret and Andi who were always extremely on top of everything administrative and space-related - you can't go wrong with them having your back!

Hear me out -- it's not a major time commitment, it allows you to really focus on just a few installations, it's great for young kids, and it's affordable. You can see everything in under 30 minutes or you can spend a bit more time really engaging. They give you an hour, I believe, as part of your time slot. I felt like they did a good job limiting the amount of people coming in at a specific time. It didn't feel too crowded. The art installations were cute. They were interactive in pretty basic ways (climbing, etc.) but I brought my kids who really enjoyed them. If my kids are happy then so am I! I've never brought kids to any bigger art installations but I'd imagine the large scope could get overwhelming. This smaller size felt just right. I had my 3-year-old and my 17-month-old with me. They both had fun climbing and touching things. The price is reasonable and the fact that kids 3 and under are free is a major draw! Really nice staff. They had someone on the floor at all times. She was very friendly and not intrusive (offered just enough advice to be helpful). Their customer service is great as well! The first time I booked, I got sick. It was my daughter's birthday so she went with her daddy and I stayed home with my son. Mesmerize staff was super nice and let me rebook on a different date (weeks later). Believe it or not, I got sick again (been endless with my daughter bringing home bugs from school this season). They were also nice enough to let me push the day back so I could get better before visiting. I really appreciate their flexibility. So even though tickets are non-refundable, they will help you reschedule in case of illness. Parking was easy. Clean bathroom inside. Easy to go in/out (if you have to return to your car). Ultimately, this is a cute date idea that leaves ample time for dinner or a nice way to occupy kids, including toddlers!
