Guest Wi-Fi Day-Pass Speedtest net check
    Rosa F.

Review Focus: Day Pass User TL;DR: 3 stars due to environment too loud for calls, 10 mbps cap for day-pass wi-fi, and lack of professionalism. I would've bumped down to 2, but the location by itself deserves a star. Capital Factory meets the needs for the entrepreneurial and startup / tech niche market but not for a day-to-day business professional. I visited recently on a day pass ($25 for 24 hours). The area you're given access to with this pass is the Capital Factory common area in the Omni Lobby. The space has a cool vibe, modern and minimalist decor, and a comfy stage with Love Sacs for lounging. Tables scattered throughout and some high tops against the wall. Coffee and Tea are part of the package. The check-in process was easy enough (just a couple of fields on an iPad), but when initially stepped in to inquire about the pass, I had to draw the information out of the front desk lady. me: "Good Morning, Do you offer day passes?" CF: "Oh yes" awkward silence me: "mmm, how much?" CF "$25 for 24 hours" me: "sounds good" more silence me: "where do I sign up?" CF: "oh, here on this iPad" The professional / customer-service-centric to do here would've been to provide all that information upon my first inquiry with a smile: "Good Morning, yes, we offer day passes for $25 per day. You can sign up for it right on this iPad if interested". I'd like to give some feedback to management and encourage them to train the front desk to provide better information at "check-in" for day-pass guests and be more forthcoming with general inquiries. Although you might think some of it is self-evident (i.e. where to sit, whether coffee is included) I would encourage you to make it a standard to share this info to make a one-time visitor feel comfortable. Prefer not to give this speech each time? You could at least print it on the wi-fi day-pass cards. Note that this common area will have music playing over the speakers all day. If you have to make calls and cannot have the music playing over your mic to your attendees, this is not the place for you. I was very disappointed with this... I usually spend nearly half of my day on VoIP or video conference calls but after my first morning call, I scrambled to reschedule the rest of my meetings that day because the music was too loud and could be heard over my noise-cancelling mic (I'm in the tech industry, but as a professional, I still cannot have T Swift jamming over my mic during our Sys Admin call of the day). I usually co-work at Orange Coworking in S Austin, and they have cool tunes playing at low volume that is never heard over my mic. I was expecting the same from other co-working spaces. Another reason I scrambled to resched/cancel, is the fact that the day pass does not give you access to their full Google Fiber network network. I noticed some choppiness on the first call, and when I checked my speed, I was getting a meager 8-10 mbps. Good enough for basic usage / email but not for stable screensharing and Video Conferencing. And no, it wasn't my hardware. My macbook pulls nearly 300 mbps on my home network. This should've been stated when signing up for the day pass. The last bit of my experience involves being shuffled around -which I understand, since they rent their space out for meetings, but should've mentioned this upon sign up that morning-. Luckily I had cancelled my afternoon calls and didn't have to relocate in the middle of a Video Conference. Although not impolite, the lady that asked me to move approached it rather unprofessionally ("just FYI, we're having a meeting here soon, and I know you paid for 24 hours, so we're gonna let you use the 5th floor"). Being told they were "letting" me use something truly came across like they were doing me a big favor. I know it's a stinky $25, but I am your patron and client. I understand that the 5th floor may be premium member space, but as you stated, I paid for the 24hrs and needed to work! By accepting my money you agreed to provide me a reasonable working space. I once again encourage management to train client-facing employees and how to handle situations where you have to displace someone. Overall, seems like a cool spot, with neat decor, and a very exciting, dynamic environment. I'd like to state no one was outright rude... just disinterested, and not experienced with professional-level customer service. This may be a great spot for startups and think tanks, but for day guests, this location is not conducive to daily work that involves teleconferencing.

Kitchen common area well-stocked! Wonderful hospitality for mentors/partners.

This co working space is as cool as it gets. Even upon the first steps (as you enter the Omni Hotel), you notice the super-cool elevator banks. Let me digress for a moment just to say how cool this is, and how it sets up the whole high tech vibe in this downtown Austin tech hotel. Elevator calls are batch processed so that you don't need to stop on every floor. Here is how it works: First, you push a button to indicate which floor you want; the display then tells you which elevator will take you to your floor. It's super-efficient, cool Tokyo-elevator tech. When you arrive on any of the Capital Factory floors, you can tell you're in the right place: busy, happy, shiny people building the next big thing from the genius of their minds. This is the real McCoy: a heady mix of all the fertile soil of entrepreneurship including mentors, investors, entrepreneurs...the hustle and bustle of people rushing from meetings, meet-ups, office hours, classes, presentations. There are private, semi-private and public spaces. The entrepreneurial energy here is palpable. You see a mix of serial entrepreneurs + newbies wrapped inside a truly supportive, nurturing cocoon. No nonsense here. No posers, either. It's pretty amazing. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The kitchen is well-stocked with snacks, beverages...a cold brew, coffees...it's all here.

What a beautiful venue! I had a meetup here and I've gotta give it up to the event coordinators for picking an impressive, architectural masterpiece. You enter and are presented with a lobby full of small business , interactive touch screen guides, an open bar and thoughtfully laid out furniture for small talk. My event was on the 5th floor and the elevators themselves are an experience. I like to think of them as supercharged elevators. They're very modern and very fast. The office space was large, & promoted engagement. This venue is in the heart of downtown so parking is tricky. I parked in a pay to park location, but it was past 6 on a Thursday so it worked out.

    inspiring office space...

To give some background on Industrious - it's a standard co-working setup similar to any WeWork with a long laundry list of amenities (although I've heard WeWork has recently cut back...). This includes morning bagels, all the caffeine you need, as well as 3 - 4 events a week that include standard happy hours, etc. Unlike WeWork, the atmosphere is a little more mature. If WeWork was a person, it'd be a right-out-of college grad that jams out to the EDM in the lobby. Industrious feels a little more like someone in their late 20s / early 30s that puts on elevator music or slow jazz in the lobby. Personally, WeWork felt perfect for a Silicon-Valley startup trying to drive that growth mentality, while Industrious felt better suited for a small professional services firm that would wear business casual to entertain clients on a regular basis. The pricing is comparable to other coworking spaces both in terms of membership and office space, although their membership options were somewhat restricted to keep the density manageable. Again, many thanks to Margaret and Andi who were always extremely on top of everything administrative and space-related - you can't go wrong with them having your back!

It has a nice quiet energy to it; just bustling enough to not feel like a you're at silent meditation retreat, but also not disruptively rambunctious. For day passes and general membership, there's a main lounge area with most of the seating that includes floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over a courtyard. There's more seating of various types sprinkled through the floor, including some with views of the river. At least three 'phone booths', but by 'booth', it's actually a small room with a phone that can fit two people easily, probably four if you did standing room only. The etiquette in the main spaces is that it's okay to take calls and such, and the overhead music isn't so loud as to disrupt. That said, the other little seating spaces nestled in the hallways might be better if you need more privacy but don't want to get into a phone booth. Lots of private office space of various sizes if you were interested in that. WiFi was trusty and much of the seating had adequate power outlets though the more lounge-style seating (sofas, etc.) seemed to lack good outlet access. The usual free coffee and tea. They let me stay a bit after 5pm, after they closed, even though I was on a day pass, so that was a nice touch. One final nice touch is that the chairs and tables in the main areas are fairy low. I'm not a tall person and sometimes coworking spaces value aesthetics over ergonomics and I end up in a short chair and a high table, typing like a T-Rex. Not the case here. Bathrooms: Clean, spacious, and functional. Nicely done!

We looked all around Austin to find a place that met our needs and settled on TechSpace. We called them to reserve some space and found out that they don't do that unless it was one of their private rooms. The other spaces are "first come", but the price was right. The employees were extremely nice and helpful. They gave us a tour of the facilities, explained how everything worked, showed us the kitchen, coffee, snacks, etc, and showed us the private rooms where you can get all your AV needs for your meetings. They fixed us up with WIFI, which was very fast, and let us choose where we wanted in the lower floor area. We ended up with an area that could have handled about 8 people, but was perfect for our needs. We liked this place enough that we have been back for multiple days of training. They don't have restaurants in the building, but they offer different food trucks each day. The trucks set up in the side area of the building and have some outside seating if you want to eat outside. We have eaten everything from downhome Southern cooking to Mexican, and they were all good. What kept this from being a 5 star location. Parking is a pain (may be that way all over downtown Austin) and locating this place the first time was difficult. Traffic was a pain also, but they can't do anything about that. Would I recommend this place? I will be back!!!

Sure, they moved us but changing an address is a major PIA. No compensation for that. Moved to 100 Congress. Quiet and a good staff. Renewed again. Told in May that they were closing location. Again about 10 days to decide to move to new location or cancel lease. Big mistake. Should have cancelled lease instead of going to 501 Congress. Part of the reason to go with Regus was the mail service. If i was out of town they could open and scan or forward to a new address. 501 Congress was a total shit show. They wanted to bake cookies and set up board games for the wannabe WeWork space. Never came downstairs. For anything. When I left one day I had mail and dropped off at the front desk. The clerk was offended and told me to take it to a mailbox down the street. This is also the lazy crew that could not be bothered to deliver mail to an office. They kept it in a storeroom where only one person had a key. if they were on the phone you had to wait for them to finish and then open the locked room and check for mail. No mail access after hours or on weekends. Later received an apology from corporate that mail SHOULD be available- it is part of the FEE you are charged. No apology from the staff. Also, they charge you a fee roughly equivalent to one month rent when you leave. For cleaning and administrative fees. not part of your lease. They slip it into house rules. STAY AWAY!
