While strolling down the street, I couldn't resist the brunch sign! French toast had been on my mind, so that's what I ordered. I enjoyed my meal at the bar and treated myself to a mimosa flight for $15. The staff was friendly, and the venue was roomy. I'll definitely return to sample the lunch/dinner menu! read more

Wanted to try this new place although I was somewhat dubious of its authenticity. I was a little confused about the drink offerings and asked if they had tequila but was told no, they only had beer. But then one of my fellow diners came back with a margarita. Clearly there was a mix-up in communication because they do have tequila so I exchanged my beer for a mango margarita which was very good. The food itself was surprisingly excellent. I ordered the chicken quesabirria which was probably the best example of this particular item I've had. I've been to that place in Richmond which has something of a cult following and frankly found that place quite disappointing. Also had an excellent carne asada taco. The guacamole and chips were quite tasty also. My party was quite pleased with this experience and we plan to come back once a month. read more

Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. Service is great. Food is delicious. Nice casual ambience.

[Vegan reviewer] this place was absolutely amazing! Best tacos ever, especially if you like spicy tacos. I ordered the vegan quesabirria and the vegan De Hongos. I told the server I'm a vegan, and they were super knowledgeable about which options were vegan and not. Vegan Quesabirria - spicy tacos with lions mane mushroom (or veggies if you don't want mushrooms) and vegan cashew cheese + a spicy birria sauce. Crispy tacos too! Vegan de hongos - regular tacos with lions mane mushroom and veggies. Soft taco! Service - super knowledgeable about vegan options Def a place to bring your non vegan friends and eat some good tacos read more

The drinks were fine. The food: The stuff of nightmares. My friend and I both got Carne Asada Tacos. A different order came to the table. Once that was straightened out , I can only say : Greasy, Gristly,Twisted FLAVORLESS bits of beef with some greens, I had to ask for a salsa and even then. well, then the wrong check came. read more

Amazing tacos! I went in here for a snack and could not decide between the fish tacos and the chicken tacos so they were nice enough to give me one of each and it was so perfect. That was just what I wanted - one of each. And it really hit the spot. Yummy. The fish taco was not battered either - I really loved that. Delicious tacos! read more

Got 10 tacos, every one of them was delicious. Their guacamole was a generous portion and was fresh. The service was friendly and helpful. What's not to like? BTW, some other reviewers point out the tacos are small. Perhaps, but the fillings are generous - I'd rather have small tortillas fully loaded than large tortillas with a sprinkling of meat and mountains of salsa. read more

New restaurant that brings more life to the Elmwood area. Guac and salsas were pretty good, although I could've used more spice in the salsas. The tacos were delicious as well, although not sure if it's worth the $5.95/taco price point. Staff was overall friendly and attentive! read more

Great food. Great Service. Got the fish soft taco today and it was soooooo good. Also got the tortilla soup with was the best I've ever had. I'll be back read more

First time here and it was great. The tacos were tiny but each one had lots of flavor. I will say the size of the taco isn't worth the price, taco truck tacos are better and also cheaper. The Quesabirria was ok but I like regular tacos better. What I really enjoyed was the Chicken Flautas they were crunchy and had good flavor in the chicken. The churro dessert with the cinnamon flavored ice cream was delicious I could eat that as my whole meal without the food. Overall it was a bit expensive but I did leave full. Next time we will order a little bit less food. Service was good and we got everything we wanted. read more

Super clean. Quick service. Parking in the back. Food was great the drinks are also delicious and don't forget dessert.

I had walked by it on Sunday and saw they did brunch, the menu looked good so I made a plan to try it the following week. The restaurant is nice, clean, inviting and bright. The menu is simple yet interesting. I was enticed by the tacos but chose the chorizo con huevos. They offered toast for $2 dollars more but it comes with tortillas so the toast is unnecessary. The presentation is lovely. It comes on a leaf, on a wood board with "5 tacos" burnt into the top. Not only did it look nice, it was very tasty. I would recommend and order again. The only reason I left one star off is because they're new and still working out some service kinks. For instance, we had ordered chips and salsa which was supposed to come before the meal but they forgot. My boyfriend was supposed to have black beans with his scramble and they forgot. When we were done with our food, they took the plates away but didn't offer or bring the check until we asked for it. I would understand some of these minor things except there were maybe 2 other tables occupied the whole time we were there and they were well staffed. That being said, I would still go back. I'm sure they'll get it dialed in eventually. read more

The food was very good and perfect for a family brunch. We also had the ceviche which was DELICIOUS and so fresh (highly recommend). The Quesabirria was also definitely a stand out with a lot of fresh toppings and delicious Birria sauce. We also had mimosas which were delicious and very well priced. There is also plenty of space in the restaurant and the staff is super friendly with great recommendations. read more

My husband & I love trying new spots for our date night. Our son went here with is girlfriend saying it's worth the drive from Livermore. Always wanting to try somewhere new, we are glad we did. This restaurant / bar is conveniently located in the prime location of Berkeley, attentive customer service, delicious food, great prices, exceptionally clean plus there are so many options to choose from, we can't wait until the next time. I highly recommend this location! read more

Took my wife and two toddlers on what must have been opening night. It was festive! We tried one of each taco flavor, a kids' quesadillas, two of their beers and, eventually, two micheladas (tamarind and cucumber, both great!). The kids loved it and we found the tacos tasty--particularly the beef short rib and chicken al pastor. The quesabirria was also by far the best I've had in Berkeley. A welcome new addition to the neighborhood! read more

I drove by this place and decided to stop in for a quick bite for lunch. Upon entering, I was instantly greeted by a warm smiling woman. The energy was great and the SERVICE and FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE ! I ordered a quesabirria and tabla the 5 tacos. The chips and guacamole was delicious! My server was friendly, attentive warm and funny. She was wearing little avocado earrings which I complimented her on. I will most definitely request her next time and will be be back soon. 5 stars for 5 tacos and beers! read more

The food is so delicious! Everything I or my friends have had we have loved. The servers are all just the nicest people. Occasionally it can take quite a while to get your food, but we don't go to be in and out quickly. The ambience is nice but extremely noisy. That is my main criticism, but it's a huge space so that just can't be helped, I assume. read more

5 tacos was, overall, a real disappointment. Tacos themselves were OK, but the elote was almost flavorless. The corn was unsweet, barely cooked, and absolutely drenched in mayo, with barely a dusting of spice and cheese. Couldn't bring ourselves to finish it. We also abandoned our ceviche, which was clearly made with fish that had been sitting around too long. It really didn't smell good. I'm sad we didn't have a better experience. I'm always up for some great Mexican food. Alas, this wasn't it. read more

Yes, it's got tacos and beer in the name, but the true standout is brunch. I know what you're thinking! Really? Yes, really. We started with a flight of mimosas. Each one was made with the perfect ratio of bubbly to freshly squeezed juice - freshly squeezed, every darn one of them! Who does that these days besides a hoity toity rooftop bar of a fancy hotel? Add to that some hearty, flavorful Chilaquiles and great service, and we were happy campers. read more

I love this place! But yesterday, we ordered two things that didn't taste good. Ensalada Fresca was one of them. The combination of watermelon, cheese, cucumber and tomatoes created a weird taste. I felt bad after eating it. We also ordered the fruit salad and it was the same thing. The radish in it gave the whole thing a strange taste. The side steak I ordered was also very fatty and a very small portion for the price. read more

Came in tonight which I had a great service by Diana who was our waitress she recommended the tacos which were delicious.

Apparently it's called 5 tacos because that's the most they can cook at once. Unfortunately we ordered 7. On a slow Monday night. First delivery was 5 cold tacos for two diners. Then an 8 minute wait. Then 2 hot tacos for the last diner. The waitress was nice enough to clear the first diners' plates while delivering the last diner's meal. The tacos were uniformly tasteless. Seriously. Just bland beyond bland. Salt in the wound: $58 plus tip. Never again. (PS - LOVE the owner's other restaurant. What happened???) read more

The last couple of times we've eaten from 5 Tacos, we've gotten take out. That has worked well, although we wish they would use paper boxes instead of plastic! My favorite are the flautas - they have a few different types (currently $17 for a plate). Individual tacos are tasty, but still seem overpriced (averaging $6 each). Pretty small. Two is never quite enough, and if you want beans or rice, it's $5 each. I'd like this to be a regular go-to place, but with the price, it remains "very occasional." read more

After food arrived the wait staff did not check in on us to ask how the food was. If they had, we would have told them how my boyfriends taco only had fat in it. I don't want to be cynical, but I think its common practice to separate most of the fat before shredding meat, so I feel this could have been on purpose... and we were nothing but nice to the staff upon entry and throughout out dinning experience, leaving us confused and frustrated (as you can tell) So, I would not recommend this place if you don't want to play fat-only-taco rullet. read more

We came to 5 Tacos and Beer for the first time on Thursday night. We were greeted by friendly staff members and we loved the ambiance! We had delicious appetizers, non-alcoholic drinks and Micheladas of course! Our dinner was excellent and we each tried something different from the menu. I especially enjoyed their quesabirria. Finally we had dessert that did not disappoint (flan and churros with ice cream). We will definitely hit this spot again and recommend to others. read more

We came here for dinner and it was the BEST decision ever! First of all, our server Diana gave us the most excellent customer service. She recommended most of the food and I'm glad we decided to go with what she mentioned. The chips, guac and salsa were perfect. My husband and I shared the 5 tacos platter and it was an amazing experience because why not try different flavors! We completed our phenomenal meal with the viva Mexico, which is churros with ice cream. OMG 10/10 would recommend this place to everyone. We were impressed with how clean and simple the restaurant was. Thank you again Diana for your hospitality! Because of you, I will be recommending this place to friends and family. read more

not to rain on anyone's parade, but a nagging little voice kept saying "this place isn't going to make it" Even with, or excusing, second night crowds. completely confused wait staff looked like the didn't know what hit - had to ask customers to confirm their orders table side (0urs were 2/3 wrong). slow on drinks (which were horrid beer mishmashes, no hard alcohol license). everything neededmsalt - and the grease (tacos, chips) was so overwhelming it could have been mistaken for a deluge of water Dona this ain't read more
