First time here and it was great. The tacos were tiny but each one had lots of flavor. I will say the size of the taco isn't worth the price, taco truck tacos are better and also cheaper. The Quesabirria was ok but I like regular tacos better. What I really enjoyed was the Chicken Flautas they were crunchy and had good flavor in the chicken. The churro dessert with the cinnamon flavored ice cream was delicious I could eat that as my whole meal without the food. Overall it was a bit expensive but I did leave full. I had walked by it on Sunday and saw they did brunch, the menu looked good so I made a plan to try it the following week. The restaurant is nice, clean, inviting and bright. The menu is simple yet interesting. I was enticed by the tacos but chose the chorizo con huevos. They offered toast for $2 dollars more but it comes with tortillas so the toast is unnecessary. The presentation is lovely. It comes on a leaf, on a wood board with "5 tacos" burnt into the top. Not only did it look nice, it was very tasty. I would recommend and order again. The only reason I left one star off is because they're new and still working out some service kinks. For instance, we had ordered chips and salsa which was supposed to come before the meal but they forgot. My boyfriend was supposed to have black beans with his scramble and they forgot. When we were done with our food, they took the plates away but didn't offer or bring the check until we asked for it. I would understand some of these minor things except there were maybe 2 other tables occupied the whole time we were there and they were well staffed. That being said, I would still go back. I love this place! But yesterday, we ordered two things that didn't taste good. Ensalada Fresca was one of them. The combination of watermelon, cheese, cucumber and tomatoes created a weird taste. I felt bad after eating it. We also ordered the fruit salad and it was the same thing. The radish in it gave the whole thing a strange taste. Took my wife and two toddlers on what must have been opening night. It was festive! We tried one of each taco flavor, a kids' quesadillas, two of their beers and, eventually, two micheladas (tamarind and cucumber, both great!). The kids loved it and we found the tacos tasty--particularly the beef short rib and chicken al pastor. The quesabirria was also by far the best I've had in Berkeley. I drove by this place and decided to stop in for a quick bite for lunch. Upon entering, I was instantly greeted by a warm smiling woman. The energy was great and the SERVICE and FOOD WAS INCREDIBLE ! I ordered a quesabirria and tabla the 5 tacos. The chips and guacamole was delicious! My server was friendly, attentive warm and funny. 5 tacos was, overall, a real disappointment. Tacos themselves were OK, but the elote was almost flavorless. The corn was unsweet, barely cooked, and absolutely drenched in mayo, with barely a dusting of spice and cheese. Couldn't bring ourselves to finish it. We also abandoned our ceviche, which was clearly made with fish that had been sitting around too long. It really didn't smell good. I'm sad we didn't have a better experience. We came here for dinner and it was the BEST decision ever! First of all, our server Diana gave us the most excellent customer service. She recommended most of the food and I'm glad we decided to go with what she mentioned. The chips, guac and salsa were perfect. My husband and I shared the 5 tacos platter and it was an amazing experience because why not try different flavors! We completed our phenomenal meal with the viva Mexico, which is churros with ice cream. OMG 10/10 would recommend this place to everyone. We came to 5 Tacos and Beer for the first time on Thursday night. We were greeted by friendly staff members and we loved the ambiance! We had delicious appetizers, non-alcoholic drinks and Micheladas of course! Our dinner was excellent and we each tried something different from the menu. I especially enjoyed their quesabirria. We ordered a bean and cheese burrito, 4 tacos (calabacitas, portobello mushroom, pollo al pastor, chochinita pibil/pork), margarita, local hazy IPA. This is a more upscale taco place. Place is clean. Service was good. Tortillas are hand made and made fresh. $5.5 for most vegetarian, $6 for most meat, $7 for seafood, $5 for taco Tuesday promo taco $5 taco Tuesday promo beers, $10 bean and cheese burrito. Tacos seemed small to me, maybe a bit bigger than street tacos. Mushroom taco was ok, calabacitas was good. The chicken taco and pork had great flavor Margarita was ok, too sweet for me, will not order again. The biggest disappointment is that the pork taco came with these huge bones and when I told the waiter about it he said "that happens sometimes". My mistake was that I was so hungry and that taco was so small that I spit the bones out and finished eating it. It looked like I was trying to pull a fast one on them. But they are the ones that served me bones on a taco. I may give them a shot again when I forget about those bones in my taco. read more

I went to 5 tacos and beers in berkeley for the first time in June. My server was Diana, and she did an execellent job of serving me and my family. Im so sorry to write such a poor review as we have been looking forward to this addition to the Elmwood for months. If you've been to the Albany location, you know how stellar it is; this place is shockingly bad and bears little resemblance. Limited menu, literally watered down drinks (this should really be made mentioned on their website as they await their liquor license) overwhelmed staff, slow and uneven service, and unpleasantly loud. Some items sampled were good but some were pretty awful, and nothing was great. It may be that they are just finding their footing but I suspect the issues are larger than that. Such a delightful suprise for Berkeley. The area to new lacks quality Mexican food but this was a unique option. The rib eye steak was a lil odd(that's y it's 4)but the pollo verde¿ taco was delicious. I also could've just been really hungry but I knocked that meal down.
