22/2/2013 - "Get a dog in yah!" Looking for a quick meal? Well, it's as easy as 5 Dogs in Brunswick Street Mall in Fortitude Valley. I don't know how I ever missed this place in previous visits, especially being an unmissable yellow stand with attention-grabbing signage and flavoursome pictures of their product. Their product is of course Hot Dogs and the concept is simple. 5 different Hot Dogs to choose from (hence the name "5 Dogs"), the NYC dog, the Chilli Dog, the German Dog, the Beef'n'Gravy dog, and the Snack Dog. There's also a selection of "sides" to choose from; fries, cheese fries, poutine, nachos, "sausage on a stick", as well as "extras", just in case you didn't have enough sauce, or want more sausage. All Hot Dogs are $8 except for the Snack Dog, which is $6. I decided to go for the Combo ($11.50) NYC which includes fries and your choice of soft drink. So what's to like? The service is great, especially the girl "Aa-mee" who served us. Everything is fresh, made to order and very tasty. The NYC Dog was as flavoursome as it looked, caramelised onions, mayo, tomato sauce, and delivered on their promise of "100% top grade meat". Just perfect for those days you want to give your body extra calories it doesn't need and junk out. Tables and chairs outside are helpful if your talents aren't walking and eating. I like that their menu offers a "vegan sausage" and that all their meat is preservative and gluten free for those who need that option. Despite this, I can't help but feel as though something is missing. Perhaps, its the size of the bun (slightly bigger than a 6inch sub), or the fact that I know for $11.50 there's a ton of other food options in the mall. Overall, 5 Dogs is well placed to meet the needs of the hungry masses, especially on weekends, after a big night out! Admittedly, I'd be one of them :) read more

If you like hotdogs, this is it. This is the mecca of the best you will find in Brisbane in the hotdog category. The meat is quality, you can taste it because it's not that much fat... which is a good thing. They boast and have a fantastic chilli dog if you've ever had one before, it's quite exciting to have one to the same standard as the one in NYC right here in Brisvegas. They use rump for their roast beef and they have over 10 different types of hot sauces for those of you who are crazy for hot and spicy hotdogs, or just crazy in general. I chose to stick with my tomato sauce and mustard. For something different, it's a great place to get your munch on. read more

It's not going to change your life but sometimes you just need a Chilli Dog, AMIRITE?! Bris is finally get in on the American style foods with its abundance of Tex Mex and import stores, so why should hot dogs get left out? I think they're fairly legit American style hot dogs, but maybe an American should declare that. Also 2 for 1 tuesday is a MUST. read more

A few friends and I hit up 5 DOGS for a bit of a sausage fest and none of us were disappointed. The man behind the counter was such a nice bloke - telling us a bit about everything on offer, letting us know about the seating around the side. There are a number of different dogs to choose from, be that the sausage or the topping & condiments (or the combination) that define them. You order one one side, pay & collect on the other, and there is a minimal amount of seating available (around the side) if you don't have immediate plans to move on. We settled in at the bench seating while we munched on our hotdogs and they were so tasty that there wasn't much conversation to be had until we were all done. Their tag line "GET A DOG IN YAH" consistently makes me laugh, because it makes it fairly bleeding obvious that we're dealing with locals, here. So I'm going to support local business and get a dog in me again real soon. read more

As a Canadian and moving from vegetarian to vegan this is the only place I'll come for my POUTINE fix. Vegan cheese option, without extra cost satisfies all my cravings. Vegan hotdogs are an extra yummy treat when I have extra room in my tummy. Well done read more

This was my first meal all day and straight after the River Fire! It was pretty yummy and quite filling. I shared it with a friend and it was quite saucy! It sucks though that even the extra condiments had a price. It was annoying but the fact that we were both hungry we ate the entire thing in less than 10 minutes. Another gourmet hot dog place! I sense a trend. This one is smack bang in the action, next to the 24 hour Maccas in the Valley Mall. Once again I face the eternal question: is a gourmet hot doc actually that much different to the everyday hot dog? In this case, the answer is still...not really. The 5 dogs hot dogs feature sauerkraut and have some different sauce and sausage options, but all in all my German hot dog still tasted like a hot dog. It was still yummy, but a little expensive in my opinion at $8.50 (50c extra is charged for cheese). Another option for next time you're having an urgent hot dog craving. read more

Well, drunkards in the Valley mall have heaps more options than we used to. It's always rather late in the night when I remember I've skipped dinner and had a few too many drinks, so when I get my nom nom on it can be a life or death (or undignified spew) situation. I have tried a 5 DOGS dog because in my drunken haze I found the idea of a NYC dog enchanting. And it wasn't too bad. It just wasn't as good to my sotted little soul as Tex Mex up the mall - however it IS heaps better than Maccas next door (even though you get a free pass on MacDonalds when you're drunk, it's a known fact). Plus I am in a Mexican obsession moment so I may change my mind again. I'm fun and contrary like that. If you loooooove hot dogs you'll probably love 5 DOGS, but for me they'd need to be a few dollars cheaper to get my repeat vote. Unless I'm drunk in which case see you guys soon. read more

Love! Delish! Nice and filling! We just happened upon 5dogs on our way to dinner, and decided to give it a shot. Oh my goodness. I had the chilli dog and it was just yummy! Staff was lovely and the chips were nice and fresh. Definitely recommend! read more

If you want to eat a really sad and plane hot dog, this is the place for you. Sausage was boiled which make it taste very regular, cheese is not very well either and they don't even bother to warm the bread. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because the chips where good enough. read more

Very happy with 5 Dogs. The food is fresh, the price is right and the service is very friendly. This was the perfect place for us to stop and grab a classic dog with cheese and onion, sauce and mustard. Seating in the mall or undercover in the shopping centre. They also do various fries including Canadian 'Poutine' fries with gravy and squeaky cheese curds. We enjoyed it so much that after we left a bar, we headed back for a second dog. We had a Yelp discount voucher from checking in, earlier in the night. There are worse ways to finish off the evening. read more

Such friendly staff here! I loved the hotdogs and the Poutine was perfect! I used to eat a lot of it back home and haven't found a good place that sells it in Bris so I was pretty ecstatic about that. This would be my favourite hot dog place if the German hotdog stand in the cbd wasn't so delish. read more

We felt like hotdogs and were pretty excited to see this place online. The menu and pics looked great so we headed across town to try it out. The service was quick but the results looked disappointing. Small and kind of sad looking it wasn't what I was expecting. This is no Seattle Dog. I was unsure about the idea of sauerkraut, which comes as standard on many of the dogs, but the flavour worked well. Having the vegan options is great but the vegan bratwurst was a bit on the dry side - which they often are but it doesn't have to be that way. My partner in crime had the NYC kransky and her verdict was meh as well. So overall disappointing for us but not completely terrible. read more

I don't know, my friends rave about it but it just doesn't impress me. I've been there twice now, but can't see myself returning. It's a quick meal though and the guy behind the counter is super nice. Good if you're in the valley and desperately want a hot dog. Have a 2-for-1 special on Tuesday though, so might be a good day to give it a try if you've been wanting to! read more
