Whipped is located on the main street in Semaphore, adjacent to the esplanade, but really close walking distance to the beach. Semaphore is the perfect dog walking beach, so the fact that whipped is extremely dog friendly is perfect for me, especially because my dog is extremely friendly herself. It's definitely nice to have a cafe other than an ice cream or chicken and chip shop, which serves better coffee, big breakfasts and has an ambiance about it other than sand. Definitely a place to check out when down at quiet Semaphore.

The staff are complimentary to the atmosphere with a very welcoming vibe and interest in your experience as a client. We ordered and were promptly served out crepes and coffee within a matter of minutes and as expected fresh and tasty. I deduct one star from my rating because the cream would have been better served if whipped slightly and my berries were still cold from the freezer. It could only have improved my experience overall if they were fresh even if that meant reducing the quantity or maybe amusing a homemade compote sauce from the berries. The whipped cream is just a personal grievance. Price is well suited to speed, quality, hospitality and environment. Would recommend highly if you're in the area.

All the cakes looked really fresh and the breakfast menu looked varied and interesting. I had freshly squeezed juice of orange, ginger, apple and carrot. You can make up your own combination. It was delicious and not sweet. My friend had poached eggs on toast and it could have benefitted from a bit nicer presentation and also the rye bread looked a bit more like a biscuit than bread. Just a bit plain. But the eggs looked beautifully cooked, with rich yellow yolks. The coffee came with fab coffee art and a friendly smile. We didn't have to wait long for our order either. On the counter there are self serve jugs to fill from adjacent sink and matching funky, rustic cups. You just want to be around them more and support such a positive environment and business. It is all about starting your day in the right way! Décor is simple and funky with cool wooden rustic looking tables. The menu is also simple, which shows that they are confident in what they deliver. With my love of bagels, I did not have to second-guess what I wanted for brekkie. It is served with herbed cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, watercress and pickled onions. Woo! However, after ordering it seems I had to get there earlier. They had run out of bagels! But, the staff where kind enough to offer a sourdough as a sub. Great! And also, I should mention that I am not fussed if a restaurant runs out of something. It just means their food is fresh and popular! Ok, so my brekkie was amazing. Lots of flavour in the cream cheese and pickled onions. Bread and salmon was super fresh and the watercress just tied everything off. Perfect! Could not fault it and would be just as amazing in bagel form. The coffee here is ace as well, great flavour and a strong brew! Good pick me up for the rest of my day. I saw on their menu they do burgers, so I think I will return for that. Absolutely love the staff and atmosphere here. Highly recommended!

From bircher muesli to a multitude of eggy delights there is something to suit every brunch muncher. Don't forget to check the specials of the day either! My dining companions excitedly devoured corn fritters with salsa, baked eggs and a steak sandwich but I knew I had won the food envy stakes that day with my poached eggs on rye with smashed avo, mushrooms and pesto dressing. I don't personally want to have kids charging around in a cafe on the one hand, and in between tables and chairs on the side of a reasonably busy road on the other hand. I don't care how trendy it is and I certainly don't care how many young up and coming professionals are discussing the better stocks to buy since the global financial crisis at brunch; if they have children they should be watching them, especially if they insist on sitting outside next to a reasonably busy street. There is a level train crossing at one end of the block here and that means there are regular periods when several cars will be banked up and suddenly driving through. Half a dozen times I saw kids nearly get toppled by traffic while I was sitting here. I was most alarmed. There's such a great children's playground down the road, all fenced in and beautiful - up here in cafe la la land the adult were so engrossed in the food and conversation they just ignored a few kids who were evidently still in play mode. I have decided the place gets enough custom without me talking about the lovely furniture or the strictly word of mouth policy that the owners have - no business card, no brochure, no website... just word of mouth; well, the word of mouth at my mid morning soiree was "Watch out!" If the 5m long menu board isn't overwhelming enough for your taste buds make sure you DO NOT LOOK at the food cabinet on the way up to making your order as it will just confuse you more. The first time I went here I was distracted by so many things on the menu that I went for the safe eggs and coriander on rye option. A bit disappointed at the cost versus size of the meal my experience was slightly tainted. But as I sipped on my Ginger Zinger drink that was like star anise and gingery lemon jesus juice in a cup I looked closer at the menu and at what people were eating. It seemed that their big pancake and their roti wraps are the way to go. Upon my return to give this place a second shot I ordered a vegetarian twist on a bacon and egg wrap and, despite a bucket load of sauce and a fair amount of oil, I was impressed. Complementing the birch tree wall art and Viking paraphernalia (I'm a huge sucker for Viking paraphernalia) is a tasty menu of baked goodies that are fresh, sweet and plentiful - as well as Swedish-inspired specialties like elderflower drinks and traditional waffles. Any country that has a TRADITION of waffles is all right by me. They seem to be undergoing renovations at the moment, but the place is still very cute, with kitschy Swedish accessories, some chandelier action, as well as the aforementioned radical Viking stuff. There always seems to be a queue here which is also a good sign - and, super importantly, the coffee is solid. ALSO: THEY SERVE COFFEE IN A BOWL. A bowl, people.
