I thought this was supposed to be a dive bar... Not quite. The place is squeaky, clean and put together well. There was nobody there but me and the owners. The restaurant side closes very early so likely it's just a lunch option. The bar side closes when they feel like leaving. It's a shame they are not busy. It has its own parking lot which should be gold for any business in the Bay Area. The bathrooms are cleaner than yours at home. If there were customers and serious operating hours I'd come back but that's not going to happen soon so too bad for everyone. read more

I love dive bars and I rarely think too hard about the regulars surrounding me. This bar is an exception. The 400 houses the sort of people who make me want to go on the wagon. It makes me fear the thought of actually having MY 40th birthday party in a place like this, dancing away the night to bad juke box music in a bar with bright lights, cheap drinks and people who show up to my party merely because it is at their regular bar and therefore convenient. Besides, if that was the path my life was going to take I would at least make sure I chose a bar with regular hours. This place has no rhyme or reason to when it is open and I would want to ensure, at the very least, that if my life was this sad I could at least drink until 2AM. read more

Its down the street from my house and well, shoot I've just driven past this place so many times and always wondered, wtf is going down in here. Its a typical bar with a lot of space. They have a room full of tables, one pool table, and the bar itself is pretty long. The bartender was 'hella' cool. She made some good drinks, I even showed her the ways of a Hennessey Sidecar and she made it really well to boot! This is a nice spot to kick it, watch a game, and get faded. Hell yeah! Spotted this joint, from the Tiki Tom's parking lot. For some reason I'm always drawn by neon lights and signs, that's the easiest tell for a dive. The neighborhood and the 400 hundred club is really dark, derelict , and looks a little sketchy but hey, you can't judge a book by it's cover. From the outside it looks like it might be a "East Bay Dragon's" hangout, which happens to be one of the longest functioning African-American Harley-Davidson clubs. But no. It's actually not that bad and or run down inside. Pretty clean with a nothing on tap but just really really dark. You probably won't run into anyone you know because it's just a really, really, quiet, and mellow bar with no one really talking, Just a little bit too quiet and empty so we left. read more

Pros: I'm told this place makes its money serving awesome Mexican-style breakfasts & lunches; they keep the bar open in the evening for a small number of regulars and whoever happens in. Hardly ever a crowd here after 6pm. The owner sometimes hangs out in the early evenings. One pool table, 2 TVs over the bar usually playing sports (but this isn't a sports bar). It's a chill place. On tap is usually MGD, Bud, Sierra Nevada, and a Hef. Bartenders are very friendly and frequently seem up for sharing drinks, but they also seem like they don't really care about the business .. it's as if the "real bartenders" were sick and asked their friends to cover for them. Cons: They tend to close whenever no customers are there by 11pm or 12am. Jukebox is usually too loud, often being fed by the bartenders who are spending their tips to stay entertained. Don't trust the display of beer bottles to mean they actually have them all in stock. Summary: Not a large selection of liquor, but they have the basics covered. I'm going to get to know this place a lot better. I don't know if I'd call it a dive bar, but I don't know what else to call it. It's got regulars, is sparsely lit, has nothing to speak of on tap (although I didn't get a range of the bottled beers), has a mediocre bar, but it's nicely clean. There's a pool table, which will surely suck up quite a few quarters, which should go towards laundry, in a sad attempt to better my game. And best of all, it's two blocks from my house. I came here for the first time tonight because, despite living here for about three years, I know almost nothing of my local bars. By pure chance, I ran into an acquaintance whom I hadn't seen in more than six years, who unbeknown to me, also happens to live right near by. If that's not a sign from the booze gods, I don't know what is. Yes, I'm going to get to know this place a lot better. read more

i've frequented this drinkery over the years, once korean with korean food and korean bartenders. now, it's hispanic bartenders with a mexican birria taqueria. the patrons have changed ehnically but i've never encounted any problems here. it's all good. my experience is in the daylight hours. the present patrons inform me dellums and boggs (who are working on oaktown's problems) have time to attend a golf tournament. i've have learn about remedies for hangovers include won ton soup, pho, "micha lava". and some kind of consumme that the present bartend can make. i've asked the bartend what are her regular hours. she doesn't know. hear tell she's going to l.a. to some porno convention when she will be fully clothed. ($he is some eye candy). the bartend make$ good eye contact and give$ an impre$$ion $he care$ about the patron$. there are 2 pool tables here but i never see anyone play pool. most patrons are content to sit and drink at the bar counter.. entree: mgd(3) sierra nevada(4) bloody mary (5) gin/tonic(4) this drinkey is pretty quiet in the daylight hours. mixed drinks are haphazard. beers are the best bet. read more

Every now and then a cold RAIDER tailgate requires BIRRIA DE CHIVO with the salsa and consume(drippin's from the marinated meat) included. Marinated(mom's recipe 19 ingredients), steamed goat rolled in a tortilla, salsa, and a hot cup of consume(add lime,chopped onion n cilantro). The only addition needed is ur Patron,Corzo,Cazadores, or Don Julio carnival in hand. Soaks up the pain when the RAIDERS don't prevail. read more

All my buddies know I am a Mexican Food fanatic!!! So when I was hanging out with my buddies and having the best Mexican dishes conversation. We crossed "Birria" which is is a spicy Mexican meat stew usually made with goat, lamb or beef served during festive periods, such as Christmas, New Year's Eve, Mother's Day, and weddings. Originally from Jalisco, It is served with corn tortillas, onion, cilantro, and lime. Did I mention it's hard and I mean hard as hell to find a good bowl of Birria. I was told that here they have "THE BEST BIRRIA EVER" my buddies told me it's as authentic as it will get. So Saturday morning while me and the room mate stopped by this "dive bar" and as soon as we entered my nose sniffed out some delicious food MMMMMM in my head already and I hadn't even tasted it. Be prepared to know what you like or you might order it incorrectly. Let me break it down for you: You get the choice of goat or lamb. With Consume (the broth the meat was cooked in) or Salsa ( the salsa they make to marinate the meat in) You can order the meat by itself and the salsa or consume on the side or A bowl of Birria with the consume or salsa or half and half which is my favorite. Add fresh onions, cilantro, lime and order a michelada!!! Don't forget to dip you warm yellow corn tortilla in the consume MMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once again this is the best Birria I have ever tasted that wasn't at home. This stuff cures hangovers, makes love to taste buds, goes well with beer, and is 100% authentic Mexican Birria. Yes. Good. I want more. It is hard to understand the appeal. For after-work drinks. Good. For Saturday morning cocktails. Good. For driving to on a piss of a whim in need of libation, knowing with pure conviction without a single trace of doubt, that I will not run into not a single one of my ex-lovers. Or anyone else that I know for that matter. Sometimes it is heaven to just be completely freaking anonymous. Sometimes it just feels right to make an honest aquaintence with a comlpete fuggin stranger. The more loose and loaded the better. Just regular folks gettin high on their favorite poison. That would be the day / early eve crowd. At night it gets a little looser. Dam. This place has seen lots of owners. Lots of turnover but it still rocks. This place has fish n chips and chicken wings on Monday and Tuesday Nights from 330 to 1030 pm. The food is awesome. The rest of the time it is a mexican food restaurant that is known for it's Birria or (goat). Saturday and Sundays you have to wait in line to eat, but wel worth the wait.
