We figured it would have been the perfect way to top off our evening. For first-timers it might be hard trying to find the speakeasy since at first I thought you had to access it from the Busy Street and walk up three flights of stairs. Actually you just walk inside of the Embers building, find the elevator that's kind of hidden and take it to the Third floor. I thought that the little trip up felt exclusive already. Once you're at the third floor you are treated to a beautiful array of scenery. Exit to your left and you were treated to the bar and some great tables with a cozy, intimate setting. I'm not sure if it was open seating since there was a little podium right off the elevator so we just sat ourselves. Some speakeasies require a certain dress code to keep up with the times. This one thankfully was casual though many people dressed business casual. We actually loved how the staff dressed as well. I have to try their Japanese sex drink and I absolutely loved every ship that I took. The drinks are fairly price. They did have a food menu but it was mainly snacks and small plates that were a bit overpriced. If we're having a large Gathering they have a big private room next door. This place does have a lot of great events going on as well with their upcoming Valentine's Day event that looks really interesting. It does get pretty busy as well after 7:00 p.m. from our experience. Overall, I was excited and enjoyed our visit coming to the 933 speakeasy!

It's not a restaurant because you wouldn't just come here for the food although the food is good. It's close to a lounge I would say but again not exactly a lounge either. In any case it's a great place to hang out with a friend or friends or a date . The cocktails are made well and well thought out. They are not your traditional cocktails you find everywhere and I love an original place with unique ideas. Make a reservation, be on time, order a dish and a few drinks and enjoy yourself.

There was no fun entrance or password; we waited at the bottom of the stairs, never got greeted, and walked up. We got seated right away and ended up asking to move seats because we were seated in the middle of a large/loud party. Our new seats were good; we did have to share a table with another couple. Our server was the best part; his name was Z. He did, however, have to cover the entire room, which seemed impossible for one person. The service did slow down mid-experience, and then we were given the option to move or leave to accommodate their next reservation, which was odd. We had some appetizers, which were okay, but we had no plates or napkins, so it was a bit messy to eat. The dirty chips were a highlight. The drinks were alright, but for being the 'main event' I thought they would offer more options for people who enjoy sweet drinks. They did not have any. The sweetest option was a pineapple option that had a thick foam on it. I took one sip and gave it to my husband. He did enjoy the fun Absinthe Foundatian; however, they only had one, so there was a lot of waiting for many tables as it was passed around. The best part was our server, Z, surprised us with donuts for my husband's birthday. They were very yummy! Overall, it was a super cute place, but definitely a one-time only visit for us.

Securing a reservation was easy, and the overall experience felt polished and well-run. We skipped appetizers after enjoying pre-dinner cocktails and light hors d'oeuvres elsewhere. I ordered the 7-oz center-cut filet mignon with red wine demi-glace, my father had the ribeye, and my mother chose the red wine BBQ chicken. While my filet arrived closer to medium than the medium-rare I requested (very little pink), the quality of the cut and presentation were excellent. Next time, I'd simply order it rare. The ribeye was well-received, and the Old Fashioned was commendable. Service throughout the evening was excellent--attentive without being intrusive. Hamilton Walker's is very much a traditional steakhouse, and while Champaign doesn't have the depth of competition you'd find in a city like Chicago, this restaurant is absolutely worth a visit when you keep the market size in mind. A strong, reliable option for a classic steakhouse dinner in central Illinois.

To some the masquerade will come off as silly -- and not worth the added price -- but many seem to enjoy being swept up in the art deco interiors and old school dishes. The food is like the theme park version of a steak dinner. We ordered from the Restaurant Week menu: a pair of salads, and the beef tenderloin tails and Parmesan crust chicken as entrees. All of the flavors were cranked up to a level that would stand up against a steak. Both entrees came with mashed potatoes and green beans that were heavy on the garlic. It was hard to taste the underlying vegetables, with all of the seasoning. The preparation makes some sense if you think of a steak with demi-glace as the centerpiece, but they overpowered the chicken handily. The salad dressings were equally strong. In particular, the spinach salad had a dressing like sweet-and-sour sauce that was jelly-like with rendered bacon fat. The entrees themselves were competent but not remarkable. The tenderloin was cooked medium rare, and two thirds had a creamy interior with crisp char on the outside. The last third, however, was tough and required some sawing with the dull steak knife. The chicken had either brined or sat on the heater for too long. It had some juice left but was also tough. Perhaps the best item we ordered was the kids cheeseburger. Well-done with oversized steak fries on the side -- simple enough that you could taste both the ground beef and the potato. The food itself warrants three stars. And here is a tip: the local Costco sells gift cards to the restaurant with a 20% discount. Where a meal can easily run $50 here, knocking the tab down to $40 might be worth it for a special occasion. The service, however, knocks the review down by a star. The kitchen lost our ticket and, as a result, our party waited forty minutes following the salad for the first entree to arrive to the table, plus another fifteen for the second and third. The chef was very gracious and apologetic when he brought the final dishes out personally. However, the fact that his arrival was the first time the staff acknowledged a problem to us -- long after they had discovered the issue and begun addressing it -- suggests that there is a larger breakdown between the back and front of house. I had thought that a 6 pm reservation would get our family home early on a school night but I was quite mistaken. Probably they won't lose your ticket when you dine in, but I will think twice before getting back in line for the theme park ride.
