Checked out this classic old school place for treats such as ice cream in Beecher. It's one of those places with a walk up window and you place an order. Buddy's Drive In has both cold and hot food. Prices are pretty good on most items. There's also a drive thru but there's often a line. A pretty warm day brought us here. It's a pretty classic looking place. The majority of people order at the window. Ice cream is the main thing of course. There's lots to choose from, including banana splits. Good way to keep cool. I had a blue raspberry slushie. It's about $2 for a small. Also has some hot food. We got the Soft Jumbo Pretzel. It's $2.75 and it sure is big. Too much salt. Before ordering just know this isn't fast food. It's usually a bit of a wait, especially if getting something hot. This also is the kind of ice cream place that's only open seasonally but it stays open longer than many others for the year. read more

Horrible service! The place has gone downhill since we've been living here. The staff couldn't care less about anything nowadays. The boy taking my order gave me the wrong food and then gave me attitude when I asked for the correct items we ordered. The owner is awful too, she's rude. Really good ice cream. I often come here for the malts. It's a perfect mix. Although I do wish they'd use a little bit more malt powder. Service is always great here. Stopped in today for lunch, ordered a buddy cheeseburger special, the good first, fries are good and pop was a decent size, the cheeseburger was very disappointing, I had hoped for a handmade patty, but got 2 dry patties that were probably were frozen . A legendary Beecher establishment. They have fresh and delicious food. And they have always made it a point to hire local kids.

I really like this place. I tried the BANANA SPLIT FLURRY and was completely taken by surprise at how delicious this was. It came in two sizes, regular and large. Large was just $0.50 more, so I just stuck with the regular size. The place was busy, but not crowded. I found this place by accident when trying to find a pet-friendly place for my dog's 5th birthday (I know, sounds crazy but my dog is currently my only child!). They have a "Man's Best Friend" section on the menu just for dogs. I haven't had a lot on the menu, but the Buddy Burgers are delicious! As for the dessert side of things, I haven't gotten past their frozen yogurt yet. They have 4 different flavors at once, and I've had the pleasure of trying the Hawaiian Pineapple, Strawberry, and Cotton Candy. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu. They have a drive-thru as well as a walk-up window. I come here pretty regularly because...well...I live in Beecher. And because I have a cheese fry addiction. The food itself is good. Hot dogs, cheese fries, Italian beef (ask for mozzarella and au jus), tacos, and pickle chips are all good. The wait for your food is decent, but they do advertise that you should expect it since everything is made to order. They often ask you to pull around back and they'll bring it out when it's ready. Fine by me. Frozen yogurt is good. Cool mint, red velvet, and birthday cake are my favorites. They change every couple of weeks. They will also "swirl" two kinds for you if asked. I would probably give this place an additional star if it wasn't for the service. It's staffed by teenagers only and they aren't that friendly. When you get up to the drive-thru you're "greeted" with "what can I get you?" No hello or nothing. The last time I was at the window some girl handed me a bag, said nothing, and shut the window. Uhh? Buddy's or whatever you call it(I still say "The Dari") is another "Beecher institution." I've been going here for as long as I can remember. This basically means this place starts at 5 stars for me but for various reasons has worked its way down to three. The ice cream(soft serve fyi), yogurt and all other deserts are great. No complaint from me. They may seem pricey but do yourself a favor and just get a small cone. The medium cone is HUGE. I've never actually seen a large cone since they switched their portion sizes but I have to imagine its just an absurd amount of ice cream. I also can't complain about how friendly or unfriendly the staff is. This is only because I probably know most of the staff on some level. If one of the counter girls is unfriendly to me its probably because her brother said i was a dick in highschool. What are you gonna do? Now for something I can complain about. While i really do like buddy burgers, the food here just takes forever and then is almost always cold when you finally do get it. I don't even understand how this is possible. Its like its made quickly and then they just decide to make you wait another 10 minutes while the food cools down. This why this place loses one star for me. The second star is lost on a move so bold I almost added a star for it. On their menu Buddy's has placed a name origin story that involves two guys ("buddies") with a dream of opening a drive-in Beecher. This is a flat out lie. Everybody in Beecher knows that this place is on about its 4th name and has mostly been run by married couples as it is now. Food order is almost always wrong or takes way to long to come out only to find something is missing. They say burgers are grilled but I've seen them come out of the microwave while waiting in the drive thru. Save your money and go to a much better hotdog joint. read more

I can only comment on the ice cream and more to the point, their sundays. They are big, delicious and, though a tad expensive, worth it. It made my day better. The best sundays I've had in a long time. I didn't try the food but really, can you expect anything more than a drive thru style food here? Teens at the window.. who cares? They didn't smile at you and tell you how handsome you look? C'mon it's a drive through not Olive Garden! Leave 'em a nice tip and maybe you'll get a smile. By the way the teens I had at the window smiled a little, what do you want they're teens at a fast food window? To me this is more a dessert place than it is a hotdog place.
