Jeremy & Oben were the best. we had a super great time. drinks were def generous. clearly it's a local bar... but they made the out-of-towners feel welcome. xo read more

Walked in by accident, Mercedes was very friendly, and despite the fact she was swamped, made sure we got served.

Good place to hop in to when i need cocktail break from lucky b's or old towne pub. Not a huge fan of the crowd, but I am not a sports guy. I don't know who is in first or who is on second. If you do, you might fit in and love it. Smoking in the front is good but gets crowded. read more

The 35er definitely has a "Cheers" like atmosphere. I have met some of the kookiest characters sitting at this bar on a Saturday afternoon. They have good, strong drinks and free popcorn. The bartenders are really friendly and the jukebox is always jamming. This bar is not your typical Old Town bar, it feels more like a neighborhood dive. But if you're looking for a chill atmosphere with no pretentiousness, look no further. read more

This bar always has the most random crowd! I like it still....the drinks are pretty cheap too. I've seen 2 bartenders get into it with people that don't tip and people that yell at them to get a drink. I mean it makes sense, I've just never seen a bartender fight back. I thought it was awesome. I always tip and wait my turn, so I just got to watch. This is a nice little bar to stop into if you are shopping in that area. Nothing too special about it... they have a fooze ball table and 1 or 2 pool tables I think. read more

Average dive bar. Drinks are not THAT cheap, and the guests on the one night we went ended up dropping two glass pitchers, fighting, and finally being tossed. The pool tables are a nice addition but is seems everyone here as some edge from working crappy jobs all day long. That being said the bar staff was friendly and attentive. read more

This place kinda reminds me of the sleaziest bar downtown during my college years; cheap drinks, kinda dirty, well populated by meatheads, loud and there's always that one person who is too drunk for their own good and unabashed about showing it. Except this is Pasadena and the drinks definitely aren't cheap. It's really not that great. This is a hyper sports bar. It seems like the main patrons are super sports fans and typical frat/sorority folk. They have a foosball table, which just screams Greek and a bunch of flat screen TVs for sports. The music is ridiculously loud despite the fact there's no dance floor or room for dancing. My 16.9oz Spaten was $7 and I'm curious if foregoing the fancy European beer glass it was served in would've saved a few bucks. I shudder to think what a Chimay would've cost. Beyond Chimay and Spaten, they also had Pyramid Snow Cap and Anchor Christmas Brew on tap, which are minor plus points. I will give this place an additional star because I could see it being a potentially fun place to be if I was really into that "Meet Market" scene or a hardcore sports fan, but otherwise I don't find too much to ever come back for given you can't even B.S. with some friends without yelling over the loud music. read more

I can't believe I'm close to writin' a hunnert reviews and I have not written about the Dirty Diver - er, I mean Freddie's 35er! I used to frequent this place when I was writing for the P-Dub - the Pasadena Weekly - back in the day. We'd put the current issue to bed and slink on over to the Dirty Diver with other members of the editorial staff, order a pitcher and commence to de-stress after a week of craziness. I started coming back recently with members of my marathon team who raise money for charity. The 35er has offered their basement room to us on several occasions to host our team fundraisers, and on each occasion we've had a great time. We brought in a DJ, set up a potluck, and held frequent raffles and a silent auction, raising some serious money for the cause. Some of the regular patrons would wander down from upstairs to see what was happening, buy a bunch of raffle tickets and throw in a buck or two in support of our cause as well which was cool. A few tips to the wise - this is a classic dive bar. That means at any given time you will find nasty, stanky bathrooms, sometimes inhabited by folks doing things that should be only in the privacy of their own homes. Also, in spite of it being a dive bar, Freddie's 35er is located in the hear of Old Town Pasadena, meaning you're going to have a heck of a time finding a place to park, and you're gonna pay good money when you do. They do allow smoking on the patio, and the smoke tends to waft into the main room, so if that bothers you, you might want to think twice about going here. All in all, if you can get over the weird juxtaposition of this being a dive bar smack in the middle of some of the most expensive - and popular - retail space in So Cal - and the fact that parking and other amenities in the area come at a premium - then this is a cool place to pop into on occasion. read more

My high school buddies and I (all 21 years old) decided to get together and go barhopping in Old Town. We came across here and realized that: 1. We were the only Asians. In the San Gabriel Valley, that's really saying something. This could either work for or against you depending on what you want. 2. We were the youngest people there. I feel like the number 35 means the median age of the bar. 3. We were the most dressed. Everyone else was either in gym clothes or t-shirt/jeans. Basically, if you just want to chill at a bar with friends, play some pool, and just have a good time watching football, this is the place for you. It's also the perfect place to escape the upscale trendy places all around Old Town. But, It just wasn't what my friends and I were looking for. It reminds me of a low-key version of the bar in "How I Met Your Mother" but with pool tables. read more

So this was the 2nd stop on my pasadena Bar crawl....my friend referred to this place as "the raunch" bc in the basement is a dank dark dance floor that is "raunch!" lol.. i was slightly concerned walking down into this basement with a sea of LA dodger hats and buttoned up flannels (not the hipster type of flannel either). I felt like i should have sharpied on some fake gang tats or something to pass by unnoticed. But being at the bar and on the dance floor, there were no egos here...just a bunch of people looking for fun and a good time.! It was a chill place to stop into and meet a bunch of drunks looking for a good time. But it was still a bit "raunch" read more

Went there last night for my 21st birthday... and wasn't impressed at all. The crowd there seemed to be a bunch of drunk hicks, the ambiance wasn't very nice.. and only 1 bartender? We walked in... looked around, and walked out. Maybe I'll give it another try... next time I turn 21. read more

I came here last weekend to see an MMA PPV. I had to pay $5 to see it, so that wasn't great, but it could have been worse. As I walked in, they were playing "Who Shot Ya?" by Biggie Smalls. This is definitely a plus in my book. I grabbed a pitcher (average price) and headed downstairs to watch the fight (upstairs was open to everyone). There was a free popcorn dispenser and the popcorn was actually pretty decent. They had plenty of televisions and there was more than enough seating (wasn't the biggest PPV, so it could get too crowded, it just wasn't when I was there). The busboy (who was gigantic, btw) kept walking into the middle of the room to look for empty glasses. Unfortunately, the spot he kept choosing to do this totally blocked my view of the best screen. I suppose that's a pretty minor quabble, but it was driving me crazy. I'd normally give this place three stars, but the combination of the Biggie, free popcorn and friendly bartender puts them up to four. read more

Honestly why does this bar have 3 stars? Whomever reviewed this bar and gave it under 4 stars did not meet Stacy! Stacy is honestly the homegirl especially on a Tuesday night at 11:35 pm. If you do decide to come to this bar ask for the cucumber vodka shot and only.. ONLY receive it if it comes from Stacy. It is just delicious. The music... The music goes from ACDC to Drake real quick. BUT when in town 35er it. read more

Wowww the worst service ever !!! First the security was super rude to us and just kinda stared at us with out saying anything till I asked if they were still open he rudely shook his head yes then continues to stand there with out saying anything and we had no idea where to sit then he points and says there's a table at the end in the corner , then we wait maybe 10 mins before I decide to get up and ask how does it work here do we order from the bar and same guy says no we have servers so when you see one flag them down , 20 mins later we finally saw one and they asked the table who came way after us first for their order walked away again , then he came back and we had to waive to get his attention then he finally comes over and the drunk customer next to us interrupts him and places his order and the waiter sees us upset and expecting him to turn to us next and then he doesn't and walks away again !! We left pissed off and will never come here again !! The worst most rude careless employees ever !!! 30-40 mins wait to only leave with nothing!! Step up your customer service skills especially in these times !! So disappointed! read more

I work with children, and sometimes, you just need to hang out with adults. That's why my friends and decided we needed an "adult day" full of barhopping and partying in Old Town Pasadena. This was one of our first stops. Personally, I just think this isn't exactly the crowd my friends and I hang out with. There was a Chargers vs. Raiders game so it was a little intense. I saw a lone Charger fan getting really mad at this group of Raiders fans, but his girlfriend(?) calmed him down. Drinks: Cheap! Less than $5 for a drink? Heck yeah! I was DD, so I had the non-alcoholic beer, Kaliber. (This was the only spot on our adventure with non-alcoholic beer.) My friends told me their drinks were pretty strong, so they don't cheap out on the alcohol. Crowd: Sports fans, crowd is about 30s-50s year olds. (I'm a bad judge of age so take this with a grain of salt.) Verdict: Three stars for cheap drinks, but we aren't sports fans and the audience was older. And I think the angry Charger fan scared me a tid bit. read more

This place is basically a sports dive that happens to be on Colorado Blvd. There are plenty of TV's to watch your games and pool tables if that's what you're into. I think this place has been here a long time because the decor was played out. The drinks were cheap and they serve free popcorn which was very cool. The spot is really casual so don't worry about a dress code or anything. I didn't like that there was a 3 second lag between the HD & non-HD TV's which got annoying. People at the other end of the bar would scream after a basket and I wouldn't see the play until 3 seconds later. For a whole basketball game...that sucks! Also, There wasn't any Bettys in there. I know it's a sports dive, but there should always be at least a few females to scope. read more

Reasons I like the 35er: 1.Cheap drinks 2.Dancing downstairs 3.Pool tables I like a good dive bar and this one is just that. read more

3 stars for the street level, 2 stars for the bottom floor. The street level bar is chill and laid back even on Friday/Saturday nights. Been here on both nights and I like it. Good drinks and good bartenders. Even the bouncer has a smile on his face. =) The bottom floor is ghetto and looks like a dirty dungeon lol. As soon as we walked down the stairs, we got a whiff of that nasty public bathroom smell lol. Ewww. The drinks were good, but the crowd was very odd. It wasn't crowded at the time we were there, but those that were on the dance floor seemed to be having a good time. The music wasn't bad, but we wound up leaving and going elsewhere. I would definitely go back to the street level floor only... grab a drink and chill there, as I've done before, but I doubt I'll ever return to the bottom floor LOL. Not my thing and it's crazy that the two floors are like night and day. read more

This place used to be the go to spot on fridays because they would play throwbacks but they turned it into sexys Friday's and it's so lame now. There is much better bars around, it used to be so packed you couldn't even walk. Now it's just not the same, it's a shame read more

TERRIBLE SECURITY. ALLOWED AN ASSAULT TO TAKE PLACE!!! I visited 35er last Friday, January 26th with my girlfriends for a girls night. Unfortunately, a man grabbed a friends ass and naturally she reacted and swung back to hit him. The man then forcefully grabbed her face and threw it. All the while security is tying to separate my group of girlfriends and this group of grown men trying to come after us. Security took 20 minutes to actually remove the group from the area after we clearly explained that they had assaulted us and other patrons were clear to express the same on our behalf. Still, the security admitted by saying, "I know this group of guys." Excuse me, so the security is telling me that they were even considering to allow this group of men to stay AND even worse that they condoned that behavior. Once, the group of guys finally left another 20 minutes later another security guard came up to us and said they reviewed the tapes and saw that we were right about the assault. Again, there were no apologies. even afterwards when the bar was closing and people were existing, the group of guys that were kicked out were waiting at both ends of the bar for us at the exits. How was this even possible? I asked the security if something could be done and they said, "I can't leave the area." I had no idea what that group of guys were planning to do to me and my friends just because we didn't stand there and take the assault. They expected us to stand there and be quiet when they violated my friend and we didn't. My group of friends and I were extremely lucky that other men at the bar saw what happened and were extremely helpful in making sure they left. Unfortunately, security did nothing for our safety during the altercation and afterwards. I'm extremely disappointed especially in this time and age. My friends and I will NEVER be coming back here. read more

I always look for the Dive Bar when I'm in a different area and this place was no disappointment Deborah the bartender totally helpful great friendly attitude felt right at home instantly got the baked chicken wings add your own level of Frank's red hot perfect snack at $0.50 a piece Will come back again anytime I'm in Old Town Pasadena We may stop by after Taylor Swift concert check out the Dance Floor downstairs though maybe a younger crowd than I can handle haha read more

Tony is the friendliest bartender. Very understanding and funny. NOTHING BUT RESPECT!

As good as it gets. I'm from Detroit, so I love a good mixture of dive & dance with a good dose of sports. This place has it all. If I want to grab a brew and watch football? This is the place. If I want to catch the UFC fight? This is the place. If I want to dance in the dark with strangers? This is the place. There's an upstairs with a bar, pool table, Touchtone jukebox (so you can request songs with the Touchtone app), televisions, and free popcorn. Yes, FREE popcorn. Then, there's the downstairs with a lounge area with TV's that leads into another room with a bar, dancefloor, and more TV screens. On UFC fight night, they set chairs up and clear them out for the dance party afterward. The DJ's there are usually pretty good and the crowd is diverse. Not too young, not too old, not too pompous, not too ratchet. Everyone's friendly and having a good time. No one's too good to enjoy themselves down there. Always fun. The downstairs bartenders are awesome guys and the security makes you feel at home. Specials are fair. Can't complain. If you feel like being out, but don't necessarily feel obligated to dress up and spend a ridiculous amount of money, this is your spot. read more

I love this place and have been going here for years. But lately it seems to have become Old Town's homless shelter with all these dirty guys coming in grabbing popcorn and lurking around. The best local Pasadena bar! Ask for Mercedes, she's the best. Don't ask for Freddy. Download the TouchTunes app and play your own music!

35er, we like ya...a very chill vibe spot to grab a cold one and catch a UFC match. I really like the underground bar and the drinks were a good value. I was honestly disapointed that we damn near had to beg for food. We were discouraged from ordering food, and were encouraged to order from the bar next door. Isn't that how customers are lost? I get it, the bar gets busy for drink orders, and we werent looking for an A+ waiter, just something to munch on while watching the fights and having a few drinks. Anyway, I hope this is something that can be improved, because we really liked everything else 35er has to offer. read more

This review is merely based upon the downstairs dance scene that I partook in last Friday. It was awesome LOL ! My friend and I flashed our ID's walked straight in, took a quick right and down the stairs we went and had a blast. It was packed but had enough room to move around. It was like one of those heated yoga classes because it was so hot down there, sweat rolling down my back. The DJ was also really good. I will most definitely come again. read more

NEVER GO HERE. Came here for my 21st birthday celebration and the bouncer looked at my ID for half a second before accusing it of being fake. Bar is fine, weird ghetto old school dance party downstairs on the weekends... But the real issue is making sure you don't step outside to make a phonecall on a night with a cover... no "in-and-out priviledges" so I had to repay to get in again, to join my group.... to leave. Even the blonde bartender we had been tipping all night suddenly didn't recognize me to waive my cover. Lame! read more

Bartender was super aggressive and tried to pick a fight with my boyfriend. We are locals and used to come here quite a bit. We came here last night after not being there in a while and it was the worst experience. Whoever the bald bartender is is just crazy. We had walked over from the bar next door where we had only had one drink. While walking into the 35er I noticed a man was following close behind my boyfriend. So, in front of security, I turned to the man to ask if there was some sort of issue while my boyfriend went to find seating. He first started asking if I was ok as if my boyfriend was hurting me which was completely untrue but made the security very concerned. He then began to rant about my boyfriend having called his friend fat while leaving the previous bar. I did not hear this happen and really only briefly remember seeing him at the other bar as we left because his shirt was a distinctive baby blue. I apologized to him anyway and said maybe they overheard part of a conversation we were having at the other bar. He denied this and then accused us of being drunk literally saying to security "look they admitted to being in another bar, they are drunk! I am a bartender here and I want them to leave!" I denied being drunk since we really did have only one drink at the other bar. Security sided with this psycho who kept yelling since "he is a bartender here and we will take your word over his." At that point I called my boyfriend over so that we could just leave. He was completely aloof to all of this happening since he was looking for seating. This "bartender " continued to smoke a cigarette and stare us down as we walked away down the alley still trying to start something. Had I not turned and said something to begin with I don't doubt he would have tried to start a fight in the bar away from security. Also he was at the same bar we were at initially and appeared to have had several drinks while we were there for one. So what? Is he drinking at the bar next door then going to bartend? Or is he just policing who he deems can come in while not on his shift. It was just crazy weird and uncomfortable all around. Having a bartender who is drinking at another bar, and aggressively following and trying to stare people down is not cool. Then to allege he is hurting me and then saying that he called your friend a name is just weird. He sounded like a child. We will not come back here. read more

I watched the warriors win game one of the 2015-2016 finals here. I can only associate positivity with this place now.

I don't know why I keep coming back here on Saturday nights. Maybe because they're the only bar besides Barcelona in Pasadena that give you that club vibe without having to pay a cover like Ixtapa or Club 54. The walkway towards the back is so narrow, it's impossible walking through without bumping into someone by accident which can cause unnecessary altercations. The pool tables are so awkwardly placed close to the men's restroom and walkway. It feels like the dance floor downstairs has no ventilation and always feels so hot and musty. I've been here back to back and I'm starting to get a sense that the DJ plays the same mix every Friday/Saturday night. You're a DJ, mix it up! read more
