Drove by while geocaching (of course), drove just a tad more, then made a U-turn to come back to this wonderful restaurant! Ordered a pulled pork sandwich, along with brown sugar green beans and apple casserole. Reading another review, I now see that the apple casserole is only available on Tuesdays and Fridays - SO glad that today is one of those days! The barbeque was simply divine! The green beans were okay; not as special as I had anticipated. The apple casserole was worth the U-turn! All three things would have been worth the trip to Florence to eat at the other branch.. but Athens is a LOT closer. I'm sure I will be heading this way more often! Food is ok at best. Meat portion on 2 meat combo (brisket and pulled pork) is not what you would hope for $15. Fries were old and room temperature. Potato salad was good; they used a bit of red onion. Nice touch. I had high Hope's for the brisket since the parking lot was overflowing but apparently none of the locals spent much time in Texas where they really know how to smoke meat. I'm in AL for the night traveling to Nashville. DecidE to stop at 306 Barbecue for my dinner. All right first off all you local idiots and travelers sitting down the street at Buffalo Wild Wings....you all stupid!! I took the chance and I was like Damn! Wings are 2x's tHe size of BW3! I had tHe hot smoked Barbecue. Well seasoned and their own bbq sauce was the perfect blend. Juicy wings not one was dry. BW3....omg send your cook there and have a taste. I was disappointed they didn't have greens, but I had green beans instead....I think they were canned beans, however they added their own season and had a sweet note to them. Garlic mashed potatoes perfect consistency, great garlic flavor. All and all 306 well done job. It is order and go type place. If I could've had a serve, I would've tried appetizers and for sure had more beer. read more

There are SOOOOO many BBQ restaurants in Alabama that it's hard to stand out. I think 306 does that ever so slightly with the variety they offer on the menu. If I'm traveling through Athens this is most likely going to be where I stop because I'm not going to be stuck with a bbq pork sandwich, backed beans and slaw. Though there isn't one dish that particularly stands out I've never been disappointed when I've come. read more

Our dinner was delicious! Friday and Saturday they have catfish. Cooked perfectly good crunch served with tartar sauce. Try catfish with their white sauce. Brown sugar green beans wonderful. The ham on our Ham Loaded Potato was not pulled barbecue ham, but was like diced or cubed water-injected ham. Still good, but seemed a little over-civilized for a BBQ place. The outside picnic tables are all in the sun, apparently due to a recent parking lot repaving. I hope some of these tables are moved into the shade under the awning. We heard a lot of good stuff about this place for bbq. It had a good amount of people there. Atmosphere was like any other BBQ joint. All four of us got something different to make the most of our first visit. Ribs, pulled pork sandwich, turkey, and BANANA PUDDING, it was all good, the best however, was the fish and Banana Pudding! Go figure! It was good to try and a little more expensive than others. We all agreed that we wouldn't go out if the way to go back. There are many other BBQ places to try and a couple of favorites that are closer. read more

Great local place. Clean and bright with lots of seating. Got here hour before close and didn't have a lot of choice of meat so come early. But pork sandwich was delicious and sides were very good. Pretty good, Brisket on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Good food, decent prices and the portions are a good size. Ample seating, order at the counter and go sit- they bring your food to you. This is the first time my husband & I have eaten here and we were really disappointed. We both had the pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides. He had mustard coleslaw and tots. I had regular coleslaw and mac & cheese. Both coleslaws were way too vinegary and you could barely taste mustard in the mustard slaw. The pulled pork was so salty neither of us ate much. The mac & cheese was tasteless. The tots were good. Sadly, it was the worst bbq we've had. read more

We stopped because there were plenty of cars in the parking lot and we're hungry for bbq. It's really plain inside, nothing special and you would think the food would be the same. However, we ordered the stuffed potato and I am swearing to you, it was the biggest potato I have ever seen. But even more amazing was the "stuffed" part. It was amazing. The pork I chose was tender and full of flavor. Plenty of toppings to last the whole potato, if I could have eaten it all, which I could not. The other remarkable thing is the potato was completely cooked. Often with big potatoes like that, they aren't done which is disappointing. There was nothing disappointing about this meal. Staff was super friendly and the place was clean. Even when the crowd died down, everyone was busy wiping down, sweeping and straightening. The brisket (only offered on certain nights) and pulled pork are fabulous! The chalkboard lists the various sides, which change daily, and some of mine are the apple casserole, mac and cheese, sweet potato casserole, and baked beans...but I've never had any of the sides that weren't good, only ones that have become favorites! Staff is very friendly and the entire operation is run very efficiently. The two-meat combo is my normal "go to" and I usually opt for the brisket and pulled pork, and keep it from becoming mundane by switching up the sides. The portions are generous so I rarely have dessert, but the banana pudding is really good if you have any room left after finishing your entree. read more

Lordy if you like barbecue 306 is just the best. Tender juicy ribs , no sauce needed. The sides are excellent. Tonight there were probably a dozen ranging from apple casserole, garlic mashed potatoes, brown sugar green beans, to classic beans, potato salad and cabbage slaw. My husband loves the catfish. I came here because AL.com had them as one of the top rib places in Alabama. As a former pork ribs judge from Texas (yes, we do pork in Texas too), this wouldn't have been on my top list. Ribs I always order my ribs "dry" (no sauce). The meat is tender, yes, but it's over cooked and dry. Ribs are also too lean for my taste. Felt like I had indigestion after eating them. It amazes me what will pass as ribs when you slap some sauce on afterwards. My rating: 3/10 Sides Wednesday. So much better now! Attended friend's daughter's graduation party and the food is better. Much better, especially the sides. Had pulled pork and loved the potato salad with a touch of sour cream and just good. So happy they have two brick and mortars and have improved the pork flavor as well as the sides. When this place first opened it was fall off the bone outstanding. It's fallen off a bit (no pun intended) but still way above average. Only once have I been there on an "off" day. As far as the sides go. It's a BBQ joint. They're decent but BBQ is their thing. I still have no complaints. I've seen some reviews that seemed like they were auditioning for something in a large city. It's a hometown BBQ joint for the love of Pete. Come here for the BBQ. If you want a vegetable plate, go to Cracker Barrel. If you're looking for ambiance and fine dining, stay away from restaurants with BBQ in the name. Bottom line? A friend and I stopped through during a long drive from Nashville back down south. Looking at the yelp photos had us excited for a half rack of ribs and some Mac and cheese. We were initially disappointed to learn on the busy Sunday they'd run out of most meat items and had pork and a few sides left. We couldn't be happier that we chose to stay. The pulled pork was delicious, and every imaginable sauce was available: hot sauce, a one-of-a-kind hot BBQ and BBQ sauce, and some ranch. The brown sugar green beans were a small wonder in themselves, and the potato salad was great.
