By far the cleanest, most modern hostel I've ever stayed in. Free wifi, elevator, and co-ed rooms make for all the right ingredients. Easily accessible from the Gobelins or the place d'italia metros. Literally in between the two. What grinds my gears though is that from 11am-4pm you my friend are locked out. BUT- seriously, who hangs out in the hostel during the day anyway. If youre in Paris, you should be having the time of your life. The times I was ridiculously hung over and slept in til 2 they didnt bother me. Perhaps it was the smell of liquor. They furnish sheets, and a pillow which are changed daily. 1E for the towel, bring your own as theirs are crap. There is a hair dryer in the bathroom. The kichenette has tons of little things to help you get by if youre so inclined to cook, and there is a supermarche right across the street. Great little neighborhood with tons of bars as well.

They usually have ensuite bathrooms that are clean, reasonably spacious, and well-decorated. They have multiple hooks and a few ledges to store things and hang clothes, towels, etc. The hostel is a 'design hostel', and there are some nice touches. Beds are decent quality, and there are small lockers in the hallway for valuables. The power outlets could be placed slightly better be a little more numerous, but in general, there's enough for people to use. The left luggage storage room could use a little work, like a little more room, and some fixtures to lock cables to. That said, the room works fine. There's 24/7 front desk staff and all of them speak English pretty well, from my experience. The free WiFi is decent quality and reliable. You can rent a towel, but the towels are comically small. In typical French style, they take a €8 deposit for the towel, and you don't get it back unless you have the receipt; and they emphasize that you *must* have the receipt. This is even though the towels are special "OOPS" towels that are custom made with the OOPS printed on them. ;) Breakfast is included. Includes a small bread roll, a croissant, and a piece of cheese, if I remember correctly. Not a hearty breakfast, but then, this is Europe, so I'm not expecting much anyway. That said, about 5-10 minutes walk up to Rue Mouffetard are small grocery stores, and 2-3 bakeries which are terrific, as well as cheese shops, wine shops, cafés, crêperies, and small restaurants. It's one of my favorite little streets in Paris. The location is just on the edge of the Latin Quarter, a very nice neighborhood. It's only a few minutes walk to two Metro stations, including one that takes you to the Louvre. This would be 4.5 stars if that were allowed, because of the weirdly small towels, the slightly-off power outlets placement, and the fact that you have to pay cash for your stay. If I've just arrived in France, and going to my lodging with a lot of luggage and tired from a long train ride or flight, I don't like having to remember to find an ATM along the way to get cash. That said, there are numerous ATMs within a block or two of the hostel, if anyone's curious. All in all, this is a great hostel. Great prices given how crazy expensive Paris is in general.

You cant expect a 5 star treatment or atmosphere because its home to students, backpackers and people who are staying for a while and need a cheap arrangement. The front desk person (I forgot his name) is very cheerful and knows a ton of languages. I checked-in with him and he told me where my room was and about the WIFI (only access on the lobby and ground floor where the kitchen and lounging area is). Toilets are in every floor and there is a shared shower in your room (but I think they have different options as to what kind of room you are sharing or staying at). The prices vary according to that. I stayed in a bunk room with three other room mates and it was a good decision on my end since I befriended one of the roomies and she really helped me out figuring out my way across Paris metro and different places I wanted to visit. I definitely recommend this place if you are on a budget and want to meet people. P.S: They serve breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30 which is really nice (croissants, orange juice, coffee, cereal - a good mix). They charge extra for towels and you can store your luggage for a small fee even after you check-out and want to explore the city without having to drag your stuff around.

The showers were a little bit unkempt, which is expected in a coed shower. I bring flip flops when I travel, so this isn't a problem to me. The showers are a bit small too, but when you're like me traveling from Southern California to the cold regions, your appreciation is satisfied only by a warm shower. The kitchen is very clean. They had free breakfast - croissant, hot chocolate and orange juice. There were supermarkets, meats and fromage shops as soon as you step outside. They didn't have wifi so that could be a problem for some, but not for me. There's a bar at the lobby area, and they have a storage room for luggages. Bare necessities of a backpacker. I think they charge you on towel rental, but I usually bring my own towel. I would stay here again if I were to return to Paris.

The staff is very helpful and accommodating (continuing to extend my stay for a week instead of a few days because I enjoyed it so much), they speak English and French. It was very clean in the shared dorm room everyone was respectful and quiet. They clean every day and put fresh linens on your bed. The beds are a very minimal, but practical the pillow is long and you can fold over itself for more support. I didn't even feel the need to use my silk bed liner (cleanliness is huge for me) I just slept directly in the sheets. There are only USB plugs in the main room - you can bring a European power strip or charger to plug in the room there are a couple power outlets per room. Wifi is weak in the room but possible...in the common room it is great. Breakfast is a piece of bread, a pastry, coffee and OJ. They offer dry cereal and yogurt, but no bowls. Breakfast is from 7-10 (must be finished by 10- get there my 9:45 at the latest.) There is a small marketplace around the corner for additional food and cafes are open anytime of the day or night. The location is great close to all of the major attractions you will want to see in Paris. I walked around the first 2 days, but using the Metro is very helpful (and saves your feet). Buy the 10-ticket book and save 5€, you will use them! As a solo female traveler I felt very safe in this area at night walking by myself or with friends. Everyone in Paris has been very friendly and helpful with directions. When you come to Paris you must stay at Mije- I will most certainly stay here each time I am in Paris!

The rooms are closed for cleaning/maintenance between noon and 3, and I arrived at 2, so I was able to leave my stuff in the locked luggage room and go exploring. You have to buzz at the front door to be let in, then your keycard lets you into your room. I was placed in a triple with two other young women my age and they were friendly and respectful. On the second night, I had the room to myself, which was nice. NICE THINGS: Our room had three beds: one sticking out, one bunked perpendicular across it, and a third facing away from them. There was a tall window with lots of natural light facing Rue Fauconnier, a thick curtain, a small desk, two stools, and a little closet area with a handful of hangers. There was plenty of space under and around my bed to keep my stuff. The shower and sink area in our room was clean and functioned well. There's a shelf in the shower area, though mostly blocked from the spray of the water, where we kept our soap and shampoo. The sink and mirror had a bar for hanging stuff to dry underneath. The three toilet stalls for our floor were a short walk down the hall. Breakfast in the communal area was pleasant. Each person gets a tray with a baguette and a fruit pastry, and there's a bar with butter, jam, tea, and cereal. They also have a hot beverage machine that makes cafe au lait, cappuccinos, hot chocolate, etc. and I never felt bad about asking for a second beverage. There were two big school groups staying at the hostel during my time there, so sometimes the communal area would be totally deserted and sometimes it would be full of teenagers Skyping with their parents and chattering. I didn't really mind, because it was quiet in my room and the staff kept the noise level under control. The surrounding area is lovely and it's super close to two metro stops: Pont Marie and St. Paul. The Seine is *RIGHT THERE*, as is Rue Rivoli (for shopping) and the Marais, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris. If you head towards the Seine on Rue Fauconnier and hang a left, there's a small corner store with plenty of snacks, beverages, soap, shampoo, etc. Pedestrians outside my window got a little loud on Friday and Saturday evening, but not too late, and during the day it was very peaceful. I felt very safe walking around the neighborhood. CONS: There were only two chargers in our triple: one in the room proper, and one next to the bathroom sink. Unfortunate if more than one person needs to charge something, but luckily that never came up with me and my roommates. The building's Wi-Fi never ever reached our room, so I had to go downstairs to the communal area. It wasn't so bad, since I just used it while eating breakfast, or if I needed to use it late at night, there was a friendly staff member at the desk. There are several long tables in the communal area so there was plenty of room to bring a book along with my smartphone and hang out downstairs. I don't know that I would stay here on a romantic getaway with my partner, but I'd certainly come back for a solo stay or with friends.

I needed to print out Disney tickets and the man at the front desk gladly helped me and gave me lots of tips about my trip. The feel of the hotel is also the cutest. The only complaint I had is that I emailed to let them know I'd be arriving late (early morning the next day, before checkin) since my train was cancelled due to electrical issues. I was told they would check me in and leave sheets on my bed so I could go to sleep as soon as I got there, and so the bed wouldn't be resold. That wasn't true- they never set up my bed despite me being checked in. When I came back down to get sheets, they said they'd send a housekeeper up since they didn't have any, but they didn't come until several hours later. I ended up having to sleep on top of my towel on a bare mattress until almost 2pm, as I was exhausted after staying at St Pancras all night. I still had to pay the full price for the previous night, despite the fact that people who checked in the next day had bedding before I did.

We got a group rate, but for individuals it's 30€ a night which is pretty much a steal for the location. The hostel has a pretty large eating area and serves a free breakfast in the morning--cereal, yogurt, bagels, muffins, coffee, tea, juice, milk, fruit, and more. This place is simple and doesn't have a lot of extras, but for the price and location it's a perfect jumping-off point to sightsee in Paris.

However, I decided to reserve a private room instead of a dorm room because I wanted more privacy while still getting the hostel experience. I highly recommend booking a private room if it's within your travel budget instead of the dorm room, especially if you're traveling solo or as a couple. Trust me! After a long day exploring Paris' many historical sites and museums and riding around the city in crowded metro trains, you'll want privacy to relax, rest, and unwind without strangers coming in and out of the room throughout the day and night. If you have the extra money to splurge a bit, I recommend booking a private room. Overall, the hostel hasn't changed much, if at all, since 2016, except for a name change, but it's still charming, an excellent place for all travelers, and close to many restaurants, stores, and metro stations. If you're a bit older (40-50+) and prefer a more relaxed and quiet hostel experience, you can find that at Les Piaules, but it will be loud on the nights scheduled for events like karaoke (Monday) and music provided by a local DJ (Friday and Saturday). The hostel (bar/lounge) is quiet throughout the day and allows for a great a working space with free wifi throughout the hostel, including wifi in your room. The hostel staff is friendly and helpful if you have questions about Paris. You can also purchase breakfast in the morning at the bar. There is a Franprix store a few minutes walk from the hostel, so you can get water, food, and snacks to bring back to your room. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is a farmers market steps from the hostels' front door. I'd stay here again if and when I return to Paris because it's reasonably priced and close to many stores and restaurants, including a laundromat (10-minute walk) in the local neighborhood. I also enjoy the vibe of the hostel. Whether traveling solo or with friends, I think you'll fall in love with this hostel. Here is my opinion: Pros: - clean - friendly staff - relatively convenient location (Les Piaules is sandwiched between two metro stations, which puts you at a less than 30 minute commute for most places in Paris that are north of the Seine) Con: - rooms are small and I found it awkward when I had to sort things in my luggage as other people would then have no room to walk - rooms that are towards the far end of the hall are noisy at night because of the Hostel's proximity to the main street I would say that the right living quarters is what diminished my experience the most as I found it inconvenient to move around in the room. Final note -- it seems that the neighborhood is somewhat of a ethnic enclave for the Chinese community in France as there are large Chinese grocery markets, restaurants, and more in the area. This was quite a delight for me as I was able to get authentic Chinese dumplings nearby when I got tired of the local French cuisine.
