A Kids' Sundae for $5.50. Here's where it got AMAZING. I picked their Peanut Butter Overload ice cream - peanut butter ice cream swirled with even more peanut butter and peanut butter cups. And then topped it with crushed peanuts, peanut butter syrup, whipped cream and a cherry. And all of my peanut butter dreams came true in the 3B parking lot that evening! As someone who's made of approximately 63.8% peanut butter, this felt less like ordering dessert and more like fulfilling my destiny. It was...glorious! Every bite somehow managed to deliver even more peanut butter than the one before it. The crushed peanuts added just enough crunch, the peanut butter cups kept things interesting and the peanut butter syrup tied everything together into one ridiculously delicious sundae. If you're sensing a theme here, it's because there was A LOT of peanut butter. Exactly as advertised. Exactly as it should be. I was in Hummelstown with no real plans, a loudly growling stomach and one very specific craving...ice cream. I'd probably driven past King Kone a hundred times over the years without ever stopping. For whatever reason, this was finally the night. I pulled into the parking lot around 7:30 p.m. and was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of parking, even on a beautiful summer evening. There were lots of people enjoying ice cream, but almost no line inside, which my stomach appreciated immensely. I quickly realized a cone or a bowl wasn't going to cut it. This needed to be a sundae. One of the things I love about King Kone is that many of their sundaes have fun jungle-themed names. After spending a few minutes studying the menu, I settled on the Elephant's Delight, which came to about $10.50. When I placed my order, I looked at the gentleman behind the counter and said, "It's been a long week. Can you take a couple extra minutes and put some good vibes into that sundae for me?" Without missing a beat, he smiled and said..."Absolutely." A few minutes later, he made eye contact across the room and handed me what can only be described as a bowl of ice cream the size of my head. I completely lost my composure. Right there, in the middle of a busy ice cream shop, I audibly squealed and told him, "You are making my dreams come true right now!" I wasn't exaggerating! And I think every person inside King Kone Creamery that night was aware of my excitement. Absolutely no regrets! The sundae was absolutely enormous, piled high with whipped cream, crowned with a perfect cherry and loaded with enough peanut buttery goodness to make my approximately 63.8% peanut butter personality feel completely understood. I carried my masterpiece outside and found a picnic table overlooking the beautiful property behind the shop. It was the perfect place to slow down, enjoy the evening and devote the next half hour of my life entirely to that sundae. The ice cream was fantastic. The toppings were incredibly generous, and I especially appreciated that everything was served in a large bowl instead of a tiny cup that would've had me wearing half of it before I finished. Every bite felt like the reward for surviving a very long week. King Kone turned out to be one of those places that's been hiding in plain sight all these years. Even better? I also received a coupon for $5 off an ice cream creation that was only valid that night. SAY LESS. THIS IS HAPPENING. TONIGHT! Before I even parked my car, I already knew exactly what I was ordering because, again, weeks of social media reconnaissance. The Reese's Pieces Peanut Butter Lover Sundae featuring their Peanut Butter Pie ice cream. This magnificent creation included hand-scooped Peanut Butter Pie ice cream topped with warm Reese's peanut butter sauce, chopped Reese's peanut butter cups, Reese's Pieces, chopped peanuts, whipped cream, peanut butter chips, and color-coordinated sprinkles. Original price: $11. Price after my 2nd Friday coupon: $6.33. The Universe was clearly rewarding me for my patience. The shop was BUSY when I arrived. The line stretched through much of the store, but it moved surprisingly quickly considering every customer has the opportunity to completely customize their sweet treat. Honestly, half the fun is looking around while you wait. And there is A LOT to look at. The decor at Figments in Sprinkles is wonderfully eclectic in the best possible way. Disco balls everywhere. Funky chandeliers. Bright colors. Unexpected details around every corner. At one point I found myself staring at a purple deer mount wearing pearls and a crown and thinking, "Yes. This makes perfect sense." The entire place feels like someone took an ice cream shop, an art installation, and a fever dream and blended them together into something delightful. A few minutes later, my sundae was ready. And I am not exaggerating when I say I fell a little bit in love the moment I saw it. I grabbed my hot pink spoon, found one of the very limited seats available inside, and promptly disappeared into my own little peanut butter universe. I heard nothing. I saw nothing. I acknowledged nothing. There was only me and this glorious sundae. The Peanut Butter Pie ice cream was fantastic all by itself, but the warm Reese's peanut butter sauce pushed the whole experience into another category entirely. Every bite delivered some combination of peanut butter cups, peanuts, peanut butter chips, Reese's Pieces, whipped cream, or sprinkles. It was peanut butter bliss from beginning to end! But my favorite unexpected detail? My hot pink spoon changed color when it touched the cold ice cream. One minute it was pink. The next minute it was blue. Was this necessary? Absolutely not. Did it make me ridiculously happy? Absolutely yes! I loved it so much that I brought the spoon home with me. It's the little things!
