I picked up an autographed copy of one book by a local novelist that intrigued me and I paid $20 for. The woman behind the counter was lovely to talk to as my wife and I paid for our books we had selected. I also enjoyed the chair that was nestled in one of the back aisles that you can use to read a passage from one of the books you may be looking to buy.

It's the large space formerly occupied by Pier 1, and they have transformed this into a spacious and amazing media store! 2nd & Charles is a subsidiary of Books-A-Million, and like its parent store, they sell lots of books! This includes used books, which have been in short supply in this area since Cottonwood Books sadly closed. However, this store has lots more! I saw pretty much every kind of physical media represented, as well as lots of cards and pop culture collectibles. There were magazines, comics, music (including vinyl, movies, and even some musical instruments! The staff were going about asking customers if they needed assistance, and there was a line of people checking out with their newly found books and other items. Everyone seemed to be happy with this new business when I visited. I'm glad to see new businesses coming into Baton Rouge, especially book-related businesses!

Octavia Books is a little refuge Uptown, tucked back from Magazine Street on a residential block. For anyone on a Magazine Street stroll, find your way here for a lovely little break. If you're a visitor to NOLA, you're going to want to check out the array of local authors' work which is extensively available here. Five stars for their strong support of authors and setting up such great reading events! Sign up for emails and you'll be privy to their excellent calendar of events. I love readings here because they transform the space into an intimate arrangement. It just feels really special. I love the owners and staff because they are clearly so passionate about books. They are the real heros. Let's keep indie bookstore culture alive.

There is a series of book shelves devoted to her work with the coffin frame around it. They have both autographed vintage copies of her work and newer editions. They have an excellent selection of local writers and locally-based work in addition to general fiction, nonfiction, LGTBQIA+, and more. There is also the Epilogue Bar if you want to enjoy a drink while reading the book you purchased. I picked up a few books centered around NOLA that were intriguing to me. The two staff behind the front counter were chatty and friendly as we made our purchases. It's a great location to check out at The Rink building in the Garden District.
