I started going there for the books of course but really I could spend hours just looking at the little aspects of the space, literally even the floor is interesting, go look at it. My favorite part of BCB is how I can see parts of all the booksellers in all the pieces that make up the shop. You really have to hand it to Elizabeth (shop owner/bookseller), she's attracted the most wonderful staff to entrust her shop to. Every single one of them do such a fantastic job of making BCB feel local, cozy, and cared for. As a business owner I know that having the best employees is a testament to doing the right thing as an owner. If you follow the Instagram you can really dig into which bookseller has your similar reading vibe and then follow their recs to get you the EXACT books you never would've ended up with on your own. If you don't do social, there's a little spinny shelf with their recs so you can check there first to see who's in your lane too. Jodi is my like mind. There's nothing she can tell me to read that I would question. Really you should follow the Instagram though because it's a work of art. They also have DVDs, and kids books.There is a big shelf as soon as you walk in filled with the books that most kids have to read for their English classes, and most for $1. And then you are finished reading your books, you can donate them back to this facility and it goes to further the efforts of the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.....win-win!! I picked up an autographed copy of one book by a local novelist that intrigued me and I paid $20 for. The woman behind the counter was lovely to talk to as my wife and I paid for our books we had selected. I also enjoyed the chair that was nestled in one of the back aisles that you can use to read a passage from one of the books you may be looking to buy.

It's the large space formerly occupied by Pier 1, and they have transformed this into a spacious and amazing media store! 2nd & Charles is a subsidiary of Books-A-Million, and like its parent store, they sell lots of books! This includes used books, which have been in short supply in this area since Cottonwood Books sadly closed. However, this store has lots more! I saw pretty much every kind of physical media represented, as well as lots of cards and pop culture collectibles. There were magazines, comics, music (including vinyl, movies, and even some musical instruments! The staff were going about asking customers if they needed assistance, and there was a line of people checking out with their newly found books and other items. Octavia Books is a little refuge Uptown, tucked back from Magazine Street on a residential block. For anyone on a Magazine Street stroll, find your way here for a lovely little break. If you're a visitor to NOLA, you're going to want to check out the array of local authors' work which is extensively available here. Five stars for their strong support of authors and setting up such great reading events! Sign up for emails and you'll be privy to their excellent calendar of events. I love readings here because they transform the space into an intimate arrangement. It just feels really special. I love the owners and staff because they are clearly so passionate about books.
