Enjoyed our first visit to 278. Was confused by the drink prices but then it's 2022 and everything pricing is Wickie wack. The wedge salad was awesome but I'd recommend pulling the bitter center before serving. The lettuce was ample enough without that part. Lovely bacon on both salad and garnished on my Bloody Mary. Wednesday's are half priced smashburgers and hubby loved them. The side is included so that's an awesome inexpensive date night (except I rather a green salad lol). It was live acoustic music and the gentleman singing did a fantastic job of mixing up the songs to fit his voice and he has a great range. The bloody Mary's were yummy but I like a garnish with a salty taste to add so either pickled Okra or a green olive makes me happy. Our group waited almost 2 hours for food to begin to be delivered our table. Then food arrived randomly for the next 30+ minutes. The food itself was fine but no one should wait 2 hours for their food. We have enjoyed 278 South in the past, but this is not the first time that the kitchen just could NOT deliver. They were both OK. Nothing to crave. The state was our appetizer. Fried spicy rock shrimp with a honey drizzle. A must get. I'll try their poo-boy next time. I had to yell/wave down a server to pay for my beer. Went next door to The Station and had my beer AND food in 10 minutes. Both places had about the same amount of patrons. Cell service here is pretty much dead. That really sucks when you dine by yourself most of the time. I have yet to explore most of the menu, but they have excellent burgers. The fries are adequate. It has live entertainment, great food, drinks, great service except don't go there between 7 and 9 pm Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The kitchen is always closed. I guess they shut down the kitchen when everyone is traveling home from work and can't get anything to eat there between those times. My wife and I came in there several times after 8 pm when she would get off Monday's, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the kitchen was closed and we left. Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday in search of a good patty melt. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who let us know we could sit anywhere and then came over and told us the special of the day. We asked what menu items she preferred and she gave us two or three of her faves. She admitted to not trying the patty melt but pointed over to a regular patron and explained he orders it every time and loves it. It comes with a tomato aoili spread and when I said I prefer thousand island she happily substituted. The patty melt was cooked perfect, came with ample cheese/grilled onions and was served on toasted and then grilled marble rye. Fantastic. I had been seeing some chatter about 278 South and several posts about how good their food was. My wife and I decided on Saturday to order food to go. Our waitress, Meghan, was helpful in pointing out her favorites. I chose the country fried steak and my wife got the appetizer sampler. After quite some time, Meghan offered me a free drink as my order had already taken 30 minutes. In total, it took about 49 minutes for our food to be ready. The food was frustrating. When I got home, I discovered that my country fried steak was dry and didn't have brown gravy as I had requested. Who wants two dry pieces of country fried steak? I called up there and spoke to someone and recited my order to her. She told me that the reason that I didn't get brown gravy was because they were out of it. Nobody had told me that. Had someone told me, I would have taken White gravy. After she spoke to the manager, they offered half off another meal. I ended up feeding the food to my dogs as it was dry. read more
