I went to Alison after a decade of box-dyes because I wanted ombre/balayage highlights. I showed her a few pics of ridiculously platinum blond highlights and she straight up told me: 1) I have 5 different colors of box-dye that she needs to remove first 2) She will not bleach my black/brown thick pin-straight Asian hair to be THAT blond in 1 sitting because my hair will fall off That honesty is EVERYTHING! Many of my gfs went to other salons with the same (outrageous) request, the hairstylists complied, and those women now have dry brittle hay straws on their heads. But not me - after 6 years and gallons of bleach - my hair is still thick, shiny and healthy, all thanks to Alison truly TAKING CARE of my hair. Alison listens and remembers my preferences; I hardly ever give her direction other than "more/less blond", "cooler/warmer" and "longer/shorter". She knows how to cut Asian hair!!!! . She also cuts my man's long curly hair and taught him the benefits of "layers". Most importantly, she taught me that toner is my friend, otherwise I'll look like a traffic cone. Again with that honesty. I was super excited to be Alison's first client on opening day. I took the Seastreak Ferry to Highlands, NJ (40 mins) and then a Lyft to Red Bank (20 mins). WOW, Alison's new Fox & Jane in Red Bank is GORGEOUS. Unlike the typical loud cramped salons of NYC, this salon is so spacious, and the décor is chic and relaxing. It's like doing your hair in West Elm. This time around, Alison did heavy babylights (which helps camouflage my grays as my roots grow out) and textured long layers to add volume. I went back to the front and sat down to go on the website and heard Gina making disparaging remarks about me for being frustrated about the wait - REPEATEDLY! I was visibly frustrated because of a work meeting but was in no way rude or vocal about it. I walked out because I could not tolerate Gina's unprofessionalism and rude behavior. I hope she is counseled on basic customer service and human decency.

My friend booked hair appointments at Salon Concrete for her wedding day. I'm not sure if this was provided by the salon or the bride, but there was a table in the center of the salon which had bagels, muffins, juice, mimosas and water for us to enjoy while waiting. Since we couldn't all have appointments at once, it was nice to be able to have a little nosh. I believe there were two or three stylists working with our group. Cassie did my hair and did a great job. I knew I wanted some sort of flowy curls with half of my hair out of my face, but I left the rest up to Cassie's expertise. Cassie and a few other stylists strategized and then she got to work. It took a while to curl my hair but my hair is very thick and wavy so that's expected. She meticulously went through each section. I was very happy with the end result. I only wish a few more pins and spray had been used. I had to run back to the salon to pick up a friend a little after my appointment and another stylist was able to touch me up which helped the style last through most of the night. The whole party, especially the bride, looked gorgeous so I would certainly recommend Salon Concrete for your wedding or formal hair needs.
