Usually I never leave a review after service however, in this case it was much needed! After browsing a few salons in the area, I found Mimi's hair salon. I made not 2, but 3 extension appointments (that they didn't properly book in their system)which unfortunately made the wait even longer, each time I attended. I ordered and purchased $600 Bellami extensions from their salon. After they had mistakenly booked my appointment under the wrong time several occasions, I told them I would reschedule my appointment. Without my approval, they sent back my extensions, although I STILL wanted them put in. After reordering them, and waiting another full week, they finally arrived. I was finally able to schedule a date to put them in. Before my appointment started, I asked if the 22 inch extensions would blend in with my hair, and look natural. She said yes.. Unfortunately, they did not blend at all. She cut my real hair very unevenly to try and make it look natural, but my hair just looked worse. You could clearly see a fine line of my real hair that was separated from the extensions itself. I immediately asked for the extensions to be taken out, as well as refunded. I was only able to receive $300 for the installment price. The extensions I could not return considering they were opened. After the employees heard of my concerns, and mixed up all 3 of my scheduled appointments, they were frustrated with me. This blasphemous behavior was uncalled for, and I was told it was not their fault on their part. At the end of the day, I was looking for a positive salon, that could give my hair a makeover! Unfortunately, I received extensions that I had no use for, as well as uneven hair. If I could give Mimis salon a rating, I'd give them a negative 5 stars. Loved absolutely loved my hair when I walked out of the salon. I was recommended Mimi's by a friend who is a long time client. I was skeptical because I have a general fear of coloring my hair from previous experiences. I trusted my stylist from chatting with her via Instagram before my appointment and sharing my hair concerns. I love how active their stylists are on social media and they show off their talent which made me trust them more. The salon itself is very, very laid back, go with the flow, chill environment. As a new client I paid the price for my services, but was happy with it, so I didn't mind paying. read more

I have been going to Allie @ Mimi's for two years and I refuse to go anywhere else. I started off with black hair so needless to say I was a bit anxious when I decided I wanted blonde hair. After reading past comments/reviews I wish people would understand you must be honest to your stylist and have realistic expectations. Pinterest is great but please understand it takes time and money to obtain the look you want because they wont compromise the health of your hair. It's a process (see what I did there?). The environment is welcoming and friendly. Yes, hair stylists need to eat too.. especially when they are on their feet all day with sessions that take hours at a time. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE . 6 hours to end up leavening the same way I went in . First of all I went in wanting balayage which they so call specialize in . I ended up getting "baby lights " which I never asked for . I wanted the technique of blending from balayage . I did not get that at all instead I got "baby lights" to my root which I never like to touch ...... but he obviously didn't listen to what I wanted . I even noticed he was going to close to my root but he insisted it was going to look great . At the end I was hoping after waiting so long it would at least look some what good . When I saw that it was the same thing I just felt so upset I could have cried . When he saw he went up to my roots he tried to cover it up by putting he put a demi permanent hair color to cover up his mistake . I hate to do this and write a bad review but I just hope this never happens to someone else . After paying $230.00 yes u read right ! 230.00 after they clearly saw me upset for getting " baby lights "they still charged for the price of balayage . It's really upsetting sitting there for 6 hours and u leave there the same way u walked in . I just wish they would COMMUNICATE better and let clients know what they are getting before they apply anything to their hair . And to top it off I called back to let them know how I felt and all ALLIE did was try to cover up his mistake . VERY CLASSLESS . I'm 25 years old and have never colored my hair, never even put sun-in on my hair! So I wasn't going to just settle for any salon. I did my research and set up an apt at Mimi's salon with Allie. I can't even put into words how happy I am with my hair and the overall experience. I wanted a natural looking balayage with some blonde, I brought pictures of her previous work and showed her what I liked. She really took into consideration that I was a hair virgin, and didn't want to disrupt too much of my natural red tones, which is exactly what I asked and it's exactly what I got!! The salon itself is so cute! Such good vibes everyone who works there is so relaxed and friendly. Allie took her time and I never felt rushed. I was so nervous to be coloring my natural hair for the first time but I was over joyed with the results!!! I trust Allie completely! My sister saw my hair and immediately made an apt. I made an appointment for hair painting, and when I got there they did highlights. Jess was my hairstylist, and I didn't think it was a big deal doing highlights at the end they are the professional one so they know what they are doing, at least that is what you hope for. My hair is naturally brown, and I wanted to go blond . I showed her a picture of what I wanted. She asked if I wanted to keep my roots, because that's what she saw on the picture, I said yes keep my roots just like the picture! I Was there for three hours and when it was done I did not really like it, but I thought I haven't been blond for a while I have to get use to this. I washed my hair two days later and blow dried it and it has 3 different colors and a few spots missing. I called on Monday 3 days later (I did my hair on Friday) and they said they will have Jess called me. I complained about my hair and they said they where sorry about that and people go there sometimes with high expectations and get disappointed. They said they can do a glaze to make the color stand out, I said okay and I made an appointment for Friday at 10.30 ( 1 week later). I went Friday and I was like 5 min behind, I called and Jess came on the phone I said I'm running a few minutes behind and she was very rude and said that she had like three people at the moment, and I though to myself I made an appointment how is it possible that you are that busy. When I arrived, I showed her my hair she said it looked fine, my boyfriend said it looks like she has not done her hair in months! I asked her if she thinks she had done a good job, she said yes, I said okay then I don't have anything to say. She said she can make an appointment to make it "darker", I said yes I will call you, and I left. I will not let her touch my hair if she says this is good, not to mention they did not do the glaze that day because she had no time, but playing with people's time is okay, because I have all the time in the world! One thing is to not get the color the first time, I understand that. The problem is that it does not look good, I didn't for one second feel pretty with this new look! Mimi's salon is a super cute place that I stumbled upon through Instagram. I saw so much talent in all of the girls working there, and since I moved from Virginia, I needed someone that I felt confident in to keep my hair looking healthy, and looking good. I made my appointment with Michelle, she's most definitely a professional, from start to finish. I was so happy with the outcome of my hair, that I would definitely recommend her to anyone. My hair was in so much need of repair, and I didn't think we could achieve the blonde that I wanted, and she was able to make my hair exactly what I envisioned, and keep it healthy. Horrible staff and salon. I went in to have balayage and left with horrible dark roots and spotty hair with white streaks. I had to go to a high end salon in NYC to repair it and they were in shock at the technique used in my hair! The salon is in a not so nice part of Belmar and very grungy looking. The staff is SO unprofessional and not very nice. Just look at the responses from the owner and you will see the lack of compassion and professionalism. They seem overstaffed with numerous employees laying on the couch eating Cheetos. I asked for some water and no one brought it to me. No one even offered to take my coat. I was kind of in shock after I left. I left a message with the receptionist for the manager to call me back and I'm still waiting. This salon is worth driving from NY to. I stumbled upon the salon via Instagram and saw what they do on a regular basis. Michelle cut and colored my hair. She exceeded all expectations. I haven't gone to a salon for anyone to do my hair since 2011 due to paying hundreds of dollars and hating the finished product from someone who didn't listen to me. I'm happy to say, this previous disappointment with others was not the case. The salon itself is cute and welcoming. The staff are warm and friendly. Everything was clean and hygienic. Michelle listened to what I wanted, told me what was feasible to do with my hair (due to the fact I wanted to go lighter and have such dark hair) and executed an absolutely stunning look. There was nothing I didn't like about my experience with the salon and I left with a huge smile and gorgeous hair. It is worth the money because you're getting what you pay for in terms of looks, service and care. To say I am obsessed with Mimi's is an understatement. I was known to be a salon hopper, simply to the fact of never being satisfied with how my hair turned out, or my hair being fried after treatments. Allie is so well educated and an artist in her own right. The best part about Mimi's is if you want a drastic change, they'll be upfront with you and tell you it needs to be done in steps for the health of your hair. I've been to stylists before who have taken me from the darkest brown to blonde in one sitting and my hair is completely compromised and still not the color I intended it to be. At Mimi's they take pride in their work all the while keeping your hair in tact. Not to mention the color blonde they achieve is like magic. Allie is super flexible and makes me feel like I've known her for years. Yardin gives the BEST washes, his hands are magical. The salon inside is very youthful but very zen at the same time. I had full head of highlights at that time and I debated greatly on whether or not to switch to balayage. Well, I made the move and Michele has me HOOKED. The process takes a very long time but it is a cozy salon and they make you feel at home. A very unprofessional environment. Head staff member was cursing and looking at her instagram account half the time and gossiping with other employees. Random employees sitting around doing nothing but eating. Was never offered something to drink. I wanted to go blonder and left with blonde hair but super dark roots so beware. Also, head owner gets angry if you cancel at last minute. Life happens and things come up. It isn't a rare thing in the salon world to have canceled appts. I went to this salon last week, with the goal of having a red balayage. I brought two photos showing a mix between conservative and and creative hair colors, and was excited to try the salon due to the reviews. Unfortunately, I left unhappy, uncomfortable, and disrespected. First of all, if you have six hours to get your hair done this is the place for you. During my six hour and extremely expensive visit, I left the same way I came in. My request for a red balayage turned into me looking like a punk rockstar, having bright red streaks from my scalp down. Mortified, I asked if we could tone down the red in which my hair stylist said yes. This request turned into toning my hair back to a dark brown, getting rid of the work that took three hours and adding on an extra three. I came in for a haircut as well, but left without one since they were closing and it was apparent from the staff that I was holding them up. With little confidence, I quickly paid the unnecessary amount to leave. However, I realized the next day that I wasn't satisfied and wanted to schedule an appointment to fix the mistakes. When I called to speak to the owner, I was told she was "busy", without asking if I wanted to leave a message. I provided them with my number and have called back once since then. No response. The lack of respect for customers is extremely upsetting, as I had such high hopes for the trendy salon. I would not recommend booking an appointment. read more
