I've eaten here probably seven or eight times in the last couple of years, for both lunch and supper. It's usually very busy, but not necessarily a long wait. My most recent visit on a sunny, but cool Saturday night in April, had a 30-45 wait we were told. So we went for a drink next door at Temple Bar, and we were phoned probably within 20 minutes that our table was ready. I would guess 2 Doors holds a maximum of 20 tables altogether, two and four-seaters so a capacity of maybe 60? Service has varied from very good and attentive, to not so great and slow, but more often good than bad. There are some menu items here that seem to stick around a bit, but mostly they add new items all the time. The Meaty Meatless Burger ($16.50. caramelized onion balsamic jam, grilled portabello mushrooms, blue cheese whiz) was one of the best veggie burgers I've had. Big, but not over-powering, soft and flavorful. Their Kale Caesar (Ted Hutton's baby kale, double smoked bacon omitted, old growler gouda, lemon and garlic aioli dressing) was great too. The 'Fall Fields Salad' ($ 9.50. maple poached carrots, local radish, toasted almonds, arugula, maple/soy/ginger vinaigrette) was one of the best salads I've ever had. Full of flavor and so crunchy. Definitely for lunch, this would be good enough on its own. Then I tried the Aloo Gobi ($17.00. cauliflower and potato curry with peas and spinach, red lentil basmati pilaf, roasted chickpeas and raita) which was very good and a decent amount. The Thai red curry ($17: crispy Acadiana tofu, red chilli/bok choy/sweet potato curry, coconut jasmine rice.) was delicious and just the right sized portion. Only complaint this time was that another in my party found the miso soup MUCH too salty. She ended up just leaving it mostly untouched but didn't say anything to the waitress. My partner has been here twice and not blown away with the place, but does enjoy what food he has tried, such as a daily special turkey"sammi"/sandwich with fries. He ordered a daily soup special which was a "tomato with rosemary" but when it came, it looked like a chick pea and black bean stew almost. He didn't say anything to the server, but let me taste it, and I loved it, so ended up having it myself. He did enjoy his Ploughman de-constructed sandwich though. I ordered "the curry" off the menu and didn't realize there were two different types of curry, so ended up receiving the wrong one. I am vegetarian and got a chicken. But it looked good, so I told the waiter I would just take off the chicken to give to my partner, and eat the rest. It was very good and not too filling.
The strawberry rhubarb margarita served in a martini glass was delicious though. They have a few good bottles of wine available, usually some local brands, as is the restaurant's motif.
Will keep going back here whenever someone suggests it. Think I would enjoy it here on a Friday after work too, to try one of the finger food daily specials and maybe split a dessert. read more
