I went back for my next appointment and not only did she not know who I was, she could not find the appointment, called me the wrong name. She had not even talked to her so-called expert so she told me she could schedule something but the expert was really busy and only worked weekends. I was pissed. I had heard someone else say she would use TurboTax, so I asked for my documents and told her I would do turbo tax. Turns out I just needed a form and had to follow the IRS instructions. It was easy. And I am getting a refund instead of paying which is what I was worried about. DO NOT USE H&R BLOCK. I could do your taxes better than them.

This is in regards to the H&R Block branch located at 1404 E Front St. Ste. My family is currently coping with an impending death in the family, and my mother needs help filing her 2020 taxes. I spoke with a wonderful representative today named Crystal Liljegreen, who first offered her condolences for what my family is going through, and then she very kindly offered to help me look through my mother's stored tax documents to help me discern exactly which documents needed to be filed. This was a very impressive and helpful display of great customer service: I could tell that this branch of H&R Block is very, very busy at the moment, and for Crystal to take the time out of her day to help me organize the needed documents for my mother was touching and very much appreciated. Needless to say, my family and I are going through a confusing, stressful time at the moment, and it was so refreshing and reassuring for Crystal to selflessly help us at a time of need. Another thing I would like to mention is, when I came into the branch, some customers were already present who, in my opinion, were treating the staff quite rudely: they were speaking in unnecessarily raised voices, and from what I could hear, they were complaining about things that were most definitely not the fault of any of the staff. Despite this unfair treatment, the staff at this branch of H&R Block remained completely professional: they worked with the people, nobody on staff lost their composure, and they accommodated the rude customers with understanding and helpfulness. I myself work at a job where I have to bear the brunt of a lot of unnecessary anger from customers, even though it's regarding things that are not my fault and that I do not have any control over, so I absolutely understand what that kind of situation feels like: I was more than impressed with how the staff at this branch of H&R Block addressed and remedied the situations. It's a stressful time right now, and from what I understand, taxes and filing are going through a particularly stressful period; despite this, again, I was completely impressed with the staff at this branch and how they handled the adverse situations that they were experiencing at the time, including taking the time to help me with my preliminary questions. I have nothing but the highest praise for the Port Angeles, WA, branch of H&R Block, and I wanted to recognize their wonderful efforts and help. Thank you, Brendan Withey

The one hour extension for the $49 bucks sounded like a great deal for the H&R folk. I figured…read morethey'd be making a decent profit for a ten minute task. But instead, they forfeited the chance to cash in on me and instead, gave me an entire, extra hour of DMV-like service. It begins by waiting in a room of divided stalls in a barn-like atmosphere, until the prodded tax payers all mewing and stewing until finally led into their own divided stall. You may moo and bemuse with your preparer at that time, talking numbers. Laughter would burst from one sector. Sobs from another. The volume was loud. It was crowded. They were taking this "extension" business serious. "It'll just be another minute, this is all new software," the elder lady said. But when most of the folk working there were in school, accountants were still debating the roundness of the globe. He was nice, pleasant even, but I couldn't help but feel that the company's assembly line system of literally filing you in and out was most laborious, and yes, quite taxing. The company would do well to simply reboot the franchise with a fresh face that makes it more clear about what they offer: The Acme Cube & Prism Consortium of Accountants On a Account of the Fact that the Masses Fear Basic Math, INC. So I got my extension filed in one full hour. An hour I'll never get back, nor wish to repeat by following through with the final filing. I could have serviced three rigs at the Jiffy Lube. I could have waited the usual 20 minutes to get into the Oak Table and still comfortably have stuffed myself with enough flap jacks to get in a ten minute nap after. But the block of time I spent getting the ol' H&R extension took about as long as my last colonoscopy-yet without the option to sleep through the probing. Hey, maybe that's the way to go, combine accounting with proctology and let em all shove it where the loop holes never shine.
