For out of town visitors, a photo in front of the Barbaro Statue has been a fun stop no matter the season. On one visit, races were happening and we could see the horses' names up on the board. My family loved seeing this without the crowds of Derby. I've never had issues with parking on visits outside of Derby week.

2006 Kentucky Derby Winner [Louisville KY]…read more In front of the Kentucky Derby Museum/Churchill Downs stood a statue of BARBARO. Buried at Churchill Downs, the champion's final resting place is remembered by a bronze sculpture that shows Barbaro and jockey Edgar Prado in full flight, legs above the ground, nearing the finish line in the 2006 Kentucky Derby and coming home to win the 132rd running of the Kentucky Derby. I cried reading articles about Barbaro's story. He was brilliant on the race track, Barbaro always will be remembered for his brave fight for survival. Barbaro was a hero. He was a colt who represented the spirit of the Kentucky Derby. He will be remembered for his six, first-place finishes, including the 2006 Kentucky Derby which he dominated by 6-1/2 lengths. Barbaro's ashes were interred beneath the memorial. The sculpture was dedicated on April 26, 2009. It is here that Barbaro runs forever. Review #3909

Lincoln Memorial at Waterfront Park [Louisville KY]…read more The memorial, dedicated to the country's famous 16th president, is located at the Waterfront Park at a city park by the Ohio River. It has sculptural parts including a larger-than-life statue of Abraham Lincoln, four artistic expression sculptures, and Abraham Lincoln's own words engraved with four famous quotes on a stone amphitheater to express his lifelong ties to Kentucky. The memorial is a simple moving tribute very nicely done. It is a free attraction set against the scenic Ohio River. We were there around 7:45p as the sun was setting behind the Interstate 65 across the Ohio River. Review #3927

Created by sculptor Ed Hamilton, the memorial was completed in 2009. The memorial is comprised of a 12 foot tall sculpture of Abraham Lincoln sitting on a rock beside his top hat, in front of steps engraved with various quotations from Lincoln's speeches: "I, too, am a Kentuckian"; "A house divided against itself cannot stand"; "With malice toward none, with charity for all"; and "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master." There are also four bas-relief panels depicting various periods in Lincoln's life, from childhood to slavery and emancipation. An interesting and aesthetic memorial. At this time, they are not hosting any weekday tours, so I could not go in and visit. They may be open Fridays , Saturdays and Sundays. I will just call or email ahead before you go.The cabin is also known as Branham Tavern and has served as a tavern, and a church house for members of the clergy over the years. There is ample free parking available on the street in front of the cabin. It is a nice attraction to see if you are in town, but unless they are open, you will probably not spend a lot of time there. The cabin is located off of a busy road, or at least busy for Corydon. Be carful. Anyway, I would recommend coupling this trip with other stops such as Indiana Cavern, The Harrison County Interpretive Museum and the Constitutional Elm Stump. Fun Facts: The cabin is listed on National Register of Historic Places and Harrison County gets its name from President Harrison.
