Would I say this stay isn't terrible. The rooms are spacious, and up to date. There are a couple…read morethings that were bothersome during my three night stay. Coming into the hotel the lobby is nice, there's a nice size seating area and a little area to pick up last minute snacks/ items you might have forgotten. The gal that helped me during the morning was quick and attentive, she told us the elevator was slow and kind of chuckled.. thought it was odd but shrugged it off.. going to the elevator I will say it's not slow.. it's sketchy. The doors to it were already open yet I didn't see anyone coming out, we got on and it took fifty years for the doors to shut.. then a loud buzzing went off before we went up to the third floor. Walking to the room you smell about fifty different smells which is fine, multiple people cooking multiple things throughout the halls. Getting into the room the first thing I noticed was the musty smell of the room. It turned me off but the overall look of the room itself was nice and modern. The bathroom is spacious. The tub itself didn't seem to be wiped down thoroughly which I cleaned before bathing my child.. the rag came out kind of dirty which was gross. Another thing that was unpleasant was the bed sheets are white.. yet there were visible stains on the sheets, comforter and pillows.. not only that but later on I was told that the hotel is known for bed bugs... great. The breakfast was actually extremely satisfying. They had cinnamon rolls which was a big hit for my little one, pancakes, bacon and eggs, a big variety of things. I would say overall the stay was good. Clean wise it's mediocre which I wasn't expecting for an holiday inn.

Jessica greeted us in the parking lot outside and showed us inside and gave us the grand tour. Our room was the largest one- with the biggest bathroom too and just inside the front door. Perfect for us! Across from our room was the sitting room where her father (who was visiting) was working on a puzzle. The father greeted us warmly and said we could help with the puzzle if we would like. Noted*, there was a small hall way with stairs going up to the other rooms, and half bath & into the dining sun room. This is where breakfasts would be, coffee, tea and snacks were available whenever you wanted and the house was simply charming. There was a formal dining room too- I loved the antiques and historic quality in the decor. Jessica and her husband bought the Duck Smith House a couple years ago and they were both very generous with any help and information. I did partake in the puzzle and helped finish it. The breakfasts were simply delightful! Our first morning, she made apple sourdough pancakes that were an inch thick (at least)! And the bacon!!! Day two was quiche- one of my favorites and day three was waffles with stewed apples. I overheard Jessica telling someone else that she tries to rotate between sweet and savory for breakfast. John and I also enjoyed all the kitties, the goats- I fed them some grapes! and I loved the pumpkin patch they had set up for the weekend! John even went out to Justin's model shop. I hope I get to stay here again, because I absolutely loved it!!!

I have been here more than home since then and it is now October 1st! I have stayed in every room and have liked all of them. My favorite is Bertie's Room as it has a nice big bathtub. Every day I am here I feel like a welcome guest. After a restful sleep I awake to a lovely breakfast. Marcia is a gracious hostess and works very had and I feel very welcomed. In this crazy time with the pandemic still raging it is so nice to have DuckSmith to come home to

**Quality Inn - Albemarle, NC (Hwy 24/27 Bypass)**…read more I needed a one-night stay for work, and among the hotels and motels in the area, this property had one of the higher ratings available. Despite the name, this is very much a traditional roadside motel: exterior-facing doors, separate buildings, no interior hallways. The positives first. There is plenty of parking, the parking lot is clean and well lit, and the exterior areas were maintained. Check-in was done at the front desk (no app-based check-in), and the staff member was polite and professional. My room overall was clean enough to function for a short stay, and the bed and linens were clean. That said, there were several **serious and egregious issues** that cannot be overlooked. My room was in a back building, set away from the office and surrounded by woods, which felt isolated. Once inside, it became clear that while surface-level cleaning had been done, **basic safety checks and deeper cleaning were missed entirely**. The most concerning issue: **the smoke detector was completely detached from the ceiling**, with the wires hanging out. When I later opened the top drawer of the chest under the TV, I found the smoke detector itself sitting inside the drawer--along with a pack of crackers and someone else's body spray. This clearly indicates the room was not properly inspected or cleaned after the previous guest and represents a serious safety failure. Other issues included: * **Visible growth inside the refrigerator**, particularly on the top shelf of the door * A **dirty, stained plastic tray** holding the ice bucket and cups * **Silly string residue hanging on the wall and door frame above the main entrance door** * A **large crack running all the way across the sink** * A **wide gap at the entrance door near the lock**, allowing cold air to blow directly into the room * Debris and trash behind doors and in corners, showing lack of thorough cleaning * Dated, worn bathroom fixtures and visible signs of past water damage in the ceiling The room layout itself was functional, with decent lighting at the sink and several power outlets and USB ports, but it looked like items had been removed over time and never replaced. Breakfast the next morning was very basic. There was a make-your-own waffle station, scrambled eggs sitting in an **uncovered** chafing dish that appeared dry, bread and bagels with a toaster, yogurt, some cereal options, and coffee from an automatic concentrate-based machine. It was minimal and nothing more than a basic continental offering. At checkout, the front desk employee was extremely friendly and asked about my stay. I specifically mentioned the smoke detector and some of the other major concerns. He apologized and explained that the property had **recently changed ownership** and that they are working to get things corrected. I appreciate the honesty and professionalism of the staff, and I do want to give new management the benefit of the doubt. However, safety issues like a disconnected smoke detector, sanitation issues like refrigerator growth, and obvious signs of poor room inspection should never reach a paying guest--regardless of ownership transition. This property **can work for a short, one-night stay**, especially given the clean parking lot, decent lighting, clean bed, and friendly staff. But there are clear and serious quality-control, maintenance, and safety issues that must be addressed. I'm including photos with this review to accurately show what I encountered and to document areas that need immediate attention.

So... it's... okay…read more Things seemed clean. I can't speak on breakfast because they were just doing grab and go bags during COVID. But... this hotel is TIRED (see my pictures of the bathroom) and honestly the bedding was really scratchy and uncomfortable (low thread count?). I would stay here again if I needed to but it did not hold up to the usual Best Western budget friendly luxury and comfort.

I wanted to go away to a weight loss retreat so I goggled weight loss retreat and clicked on…read moreBookretreats.com where I saw a listing in Albamare NC for a 15 day fasting /detox for about $700. The pictures showed a few bedrooms & a living area in a house in the country. I made contact to confirm if they were open & the owner Freddie Morgan emailed me that the dates that the price listed on the website is for the dates that automatically populate on it, which is Christmas week. He said those same accamodations now (June) are $1700. But, he said, he could put me in a tent for $700 for the 15 days. I acquiesced and agreed to that, even though it felt like a Bait and Switch tactic. I flew from NY to NC and stayed 1 (ONE) night, out of the 14 I had paid for, and then left. It was very uncomfortable in the tent, the tent had wasps, the bathroom was inside a kitchen used by campers, on a dirt floor, with a shower curtain for a door, that was not at all private. You could clearly hear the conversations of the people in the kitchen and you could see them through the shower curtain and they can see you, while you're trying to use the bathroom. The tent zipper got stuck repeatedly so that I was stuck inside the tent until I could finally manage to open it. It was extremely hot, and fasting in those conditions is extremely difficult. I reached out to both Freddie Morgan and bookretreats.com to get a refund but Freddie refused. He took my $700 for 1 miserable night sleeping in a tent in his barn. He markets his property as a weight loss retreat, writers retreat, stargazing retreat, airbnb, sleep-in-a-barn, and the Fred T. Morgan Homeplace Hotel. Since he is a jack of all trades and master of none, with no medical certificate, yet running a business that is for people to go almost 15 days without food in nearly 100 degree weather, he should at least be cognizant that the situation -sleeping in a hot wasp filled tent while fasting-will not work for everyone.

There's plenty of stores nearby such as Walmart, Costco, Sam's Club, gas stations and more! Location definitely gets a star! No one was at the front desk and there was a sign that they were helping out another guest but they just came out from the back. It took 5+ minutes to wait and get greeted and then another 5 minutes to check in. Breakfast was superb, probably one of the better buffet breakfasts! That alone gets another star. Rooms were okay, a good size but what they didn't show was that though there's a "kitchen" area, there's no plates, dishes, cups, only a half fridge and microwave. No pots, no nothing. Something to keep in mind if you're wanting a full kitchen. Noise level was very minimal. I barely heard any outside noise! No racing cars, no loud guests walking outside our room. That deserves another star! Beds were not but also not good. My back hurt after a few days and it was hard to stay asleep. Overall, it was an okay stay. I don't know if I would return to this location if ever in the area again. It was okay, got the job done for what we needed.
