My only regret- not getting more time here! My very first Bed and Breakfast and they truly fulfilled and exceeded my expectations! Jessica greeted us in the parking lot outside and showed us inside and gave us the grand tour. Our room was the largest one- with the biggest bathroom too and just inside the front door. Perfect for us! Across from our room was the sitting room where her father (who was visiting) was working on a puzzle. The father greeted us warmly and said we could help with the puzzle if we would like. Noted*, there was a small hall way with stairs going up to the other rooms, and half bath & into the dining sun room. This is where breakfasts would be, coffee, tea and snacks were available whenever you wanted and the house was simply charming. There was a formal dining room too- I loved the antiques and historic quality in the decor. Jessica and her husband bought the Duck Smith House a couple years ago and they were both very generous with any help and information. I did partake in the puzzle and helped finish it. The breakfasts were simply delightful! Our first morning, she made apple sourdough pancakes that were an inch thick (at least)! And the bacon!!! Day two was quiche- one of my favorites and day three was waffles with stewed apples. I overheard Jessica telling someone else that she tries to rotate between sweet and savory for breakfast. John and I also enjoyed all the kitties, the goats- I fed them some grapes! and I loved the pumpkin patch they had set up for the weekend! John even went out to Justin's model shop. I was looking for comfort and hospitality and I found it! I am in this area working at a COVID vaccine clinic. I first stayed here in July. I have been here more than home since then and it is now October 1st! I have stayed in every room and have liked all of them. My favorite is Bertie's Room as it has a nice big bathtub. Every day I am here I feel like a welcome guest. After a restful sleep I awake to a lovely breakfast. Marcia is a gracious hostess and works very had and I feel very welcomed. Just got back from my first ever experience at a bed and breakfast!... so glad my mom & I picked this place! Suzanne and Barbara are two sisters that run this place, they are the nicest people I've ever met! They basically seem like your loving grandma taking care of you. They have kept and maintained a 100% sanitary environment from the health department, & I would believe it. They turn down the bed and tidy up your room, vacuuming, refreshing towels and garbage everyday as well as an ice cold pitcher of water daily! I stayed for 4 nights 5 days & they were very welcoming and friendly the whole time. Every morning you basically get an amazing fruit starter and even more amazing breakfast entree, everything is home made!!!!! Together, these sisters always created delicious breakfasts that make me never want to leave. YES I would stay just because of their amazing food. Overall THIS is the place to go!!! read more

Come for the pottery, stay for the breakfast! Loved our quick overnight stay here!! Breakfast is amazing and Barb brought the frosting beaters to us on the front porch -"First ones up get to lick the beaters." There is WiFi, and we were ok with small tv in the room. Only improvement I would note is wish the backyard bench swing was usable. Great place for a quiet weekend get away from the city! read more

We just got home after a weekend at the Duck Smith Bed & Breakfast in Seagrove, NC and could not wait to give Marcie a raving review. We fell in love with Marcie and her audacious Hospitality! This historical Beauty is a piece of art in itself and being able to learn about it's impact on Seagrove's settlers was amazing but finding the entire Bed and Breakfast adorned with the incredibly gifted local potter's masterpieces was absolutely magical! Cannot wait until we plan another trip down to the North Carolina Zoological Park which is only minutes away. read more

By far the BEST B&B I've ever stayed at. What makes it the best? 1.) quaint, cosy, cute -not in an old-kind-of-way-that-I-use-quaint-because-it's-not-really-that-great-kind-of-way. I say quaint, cosy & cute in the MOST perfect-fairytale-dream-kind of way. This place is like walking into the pages of a fairytale ending. You'll want to come back again and again because it's absolute MAGIC. 2.) CLEAN. I'm a neat-freak/clean-freak/germaphobe. I give this place 11 out of 10 stars for cleanliness. Seriously. I'm usually afraid to take my shoes off in most hotels/B&B's, never drink out of the glasses, etc -as you never know. But this place -not only did I take my shoes off, I walked around in my BARE feet, drank out of their glasses (crystal to be exact), and felt perfectly comfortable and safe knowing it was CLEAN. Love that! 3.) Service is beyond anything I would ever expect. They asked us what we wanted -we got it. We asked for this or that -delivered. Our room was impeccably cleaned & organized for us each day. I plugged in my phone charger next to my bed -the electrical outlet was behind bed. Next day, they tied a little blue ribbon into the cord and hung it in the bed post, so keep it in plain sight, make it easy for me to find, and also remind me it was there so I wouldn't forget it when I left. SERIOUSLY? Who does that? These gals here do. 4.) Breakfast.is.to.die.for.yummy. OMGOMGOMG. Suzanne & Barbara made breakfast especially for us each day. Things you'd never find at even 5star hotels. I've stayed at many 5 star hotels across the U.S. -those places have nothing over the culinary skills and service provided by these two sisters. Baked grapefruit meringue, stuffed crepes, pumpkin waffles. So rich, so smooth, so yummy, we thought we died and went to heaven. 5.) PEACE. I found myself drawn to watching the birds, appreciating the trees and setting. One evening, I sat out on the front porch to write down some thoughts and was delighted to see fireflies light up the garden -as if in a visual symphony JUST for me. Again, so magical! Fairytale-like! I thought I was in a dream the entire time I was here. The best thing about Duck Smith B&B is that Suzanne and Barbara love what they do. We stayed at the Duck Smith House for a weekend in March 2015. The two sisters from New York who own it are lovely people and enjoy hosting. We were met at our car upon arrival, even though with a long drive we didn't have a set arrival time. The room, on the first floor and just inside the front door, was beautiful, spacious, and quiet, with freshly polished furniture. The breakfasts were amazing and freshly made at the times we chose. Would you like meringue on your baked grapefruit? Why, yes! The dining room overlooks a beautiful back yard full of busy bird feeders. We spent the days exploring potteries and attending wedding festivities, then came back to this relaxing, charming old house, where there was an electric teapot always ready in the common area. We had use of the common fridge as well, and we mostly had the whole place to ourselves when it wasn't breakfast time. The owners live in the cottage next door, and they're glad to get to know you with warm conversation over breakfast, then give you space. This was the perfect place to rest after driving in from Florida, and was exactly what we needed for the weekend. If you're traveling to the Seagrove/Asheboro area, we highly recommend the Duck Smith House. read more

While traveling from the North to the South we stumbled upon this lovely B&B with a rich history. Beautiful grounds still growing, recent owners Marcia & hubby have wonderful stories about the area and the history of Duck Smith House once a tobacco farm. The house was a step back into time with spacious charming rooms and a beautiful view of the property from every window. My favorite room is the breakfast room/sun porch....our breakfast was yummy and plentiful. Would love to come back in the Spring. read more

We stayed only one night at the Duck Smith, which is now owned by Marcia and Mark Willette, but wished we could stay longer. We have stayed at many B&Bs and inns and found the Duck Smith to be superior in every way. Marcia was warm, friendly, helpful and accommodating from the first time we called through our departure. The house itself is beautiful and well appointed, with a wrap-around porch for relaxing and chatting, beautiful, thoughtfully furnished bedrooms, and comfortable, welcoming common areas. We got a COVID-19 special on price, so I'm not sure about price during normal times, but knowing Marcia, it is as reasonable as can be. We will definitely be back, as often as possible! read more

My mom and I went for a girls retreat and had the best time ever. Suzanne and Barbara made the experience so enjoyable we didn't want to leave so we stayed an extra night. I can't wake up at home and have someone serve me the best breakfast I have ever eaten. The first morning Barbara made stuffed french toast. OMG IT IS TO DIE FOR!!!! We loved it so much we ate 3 mornings in a row. The B&B is a must stay if you are there for the pottery. It is conveniently located to all the best shops. It is one of 2 B&B's in the area but the one to choose of the 2. If you can't stay here then postpone your trip. The Inn is absolutely gorgeous inside and out. This B&B is by far the best of many I have stayed in. Can't wait to go back and will! read more

The two sisters, Barbara and Suzanne, are just so sweet! Charming house in the midst of Seagrove NC, home to lots of pottery. Think wine tasting in Napa (well, okay, Russian River), and that's pottery in Seagrove. Just down the street from various potters, but a driving a bit further away is worth the effort. Rooms were cute, we stayed in the double-bed Waverly room (since that was all that was left). Love the on-demand heating. The breakfast was great, never had stuffed french toast before... 'twas interesting. They're dog daisy is a constant barker, but I'd probably be fiesty if I were a little tike were her size. All in all a lovely stay. One of the sisters even brought the AC up to our room that day for the blast of almost 90 degrees in the midst of early April. And they must be pushing mid-60s too. Impressed. The bird feeders dangling off the backyard tree, with the love seat bench swinging from below, seriously, this is how a BnB should be. read more

We spent two nights at The Duck Smith House Bed & Breakfast. The owners, Suzanne and Barbara were lovely, wonderful hostesses. Their breakfasts were delicious and so filling and served in the bright and cheery breakfast room which has a lot of the local pottery displayed. We stayed on the first floor in the Carolina Room which was large and comfortable. We had traveled with a cooler so we were able to put our food in the guest refrigerator which was stocked with sodas for the guests. We had spent the day visiting many potters and as soon as we returned we were greeted with cheese and crackers. Such a great place to stay! read more

Our experience at Duck Smith House B & B was all we could ask for and more! We wanted a relaxing, beautiful, warm and friendly place to stay on our potteries tour and Barbara and Suzanne provided the perfect place! We stayed in the spacious, comfortable Carolina Room on the first floor. Suzanne greeted us on the porch before we could even knock and offered a warm welcome and tour of the house. The sisters provided thoughtful hospitality, like stemmed crystal glasses and ice water in the room, cozy robes, crackers, cheese and apple slices for a late afternoon snack, and a variety of teas for our pleasure. The breakfast was a yogurt and berries parfait, stuffed French toast, sausage and scrambled egg, choice of juice, coffee and beautifully prepared hot tea--everything prepared fresh and delicious! We would love to return when the weather is warmer and we can enjoy the gorgeous porch and grounds. read more
