1851 is a ton of fun. Driving by, you'd probably not even notice it, but it's definitely worth swinging in. Outside of Dallas and Fort Worth proper, gay bars are hard to come by in the Metroplex. However, this place is very convenient for the many of us living in between. Once you walk in the door, they have a number of seating options between tables, the bar and even a private outdoor patio. Drinks are very reasonably priced and definitely pack a punch. The staff is awesome and always very friendly. Nice to have a place to hang out without having to drive all the way to Dallas or Fort Worth. read more

1851 is definitely a place you should check out, especially if you need a cherry popper (are new to going out to gay bars). All kings, queens and in betweens are treated with love and care. As a bisexual woman I've been to more than a few gay bars that don't have the best energy with women and all the focus and fun usually goes to the guys. But here at 1851 the staff, performers and even security were very friendly and interactive with everyone and make you feel like the whole club is just a big group of friends and family. They make drinks that hit the spot and the performances leave you wanting more. When I heard my friends say that wanted to go to 1851 the time machine jokes started. Yeah, I'm easily amused. I wasn't at this bar for very long because it was 1:30am and girlfriend had to get back to Dallas. From what I could tell this would be a fun hang out. The small dance floor and all the dancing people were fun to watch. Not sure if I'd find myself in this part of town again any time soon, but I'd want to go back to 1851 fo sho! The owner and employees are great pillars of entertainment at Arlington. The owner has high standards and I respect him. But I have the privilege to interact with the staff more and am privileged to do so. This is a gay bar, but even if you are not gay, it is most excellent as long as you are respectfully of the people who come here. Poker night is a little different but still fun. read more

It's not the most pumped up vibe unless you catch it at a Friday night drag show time. But it's home. "Daddy Russ" (as the queens call the security guy) helps make everyone feel safe. The drag queens who perform are incredibly talented, entertaining, and great at friendly roasts. Had a whole conversation with the guy who does the lights and special effects, which was awesome and made me feel welcomed. The effects, by the way, are astounding. Bartenders become familiar and between them and seeing a lot of familiar customers, it's like going to see your cousins at the family reunion haha. Maybe you don't super know everybody closely but it still feels like home. I honestly feel safer here than I do at a Wal-Mart. read more

It's been a few years since I've been back to 1851. They moved the bar around, and it looks nicer overall. My cousin enjoyed himself the most here. The DJ was getting kind of lazy toward the end and kept leaving the booth...he even let it go silent for a few seconds. I don't think most people even cared. I wouldn't say the bartender was nice. She faked it enough to smile when handing me the bill. Also I think they can improve on mixing and garnishing the drinks. Again, most people probably don't care. Before two days ago, I had never been to a gay bar. I will take you on my journey. I like dive bars, so when I heard that 1851 was right down the street from my (previous) favorite bar, Sunshine, I was expecting somewhere comfortable where I could chill, drink, and do a little bit of karaoke when I got jazzed enough. My best friends are regulars and it was our friend's birthday, so maybe I was expecting the wrong thing. I walked in and was greeted immediately. The bar staff was friendly, as were all the patrons. I'd heard horror stories from people who went to other gay bars and had to deal with a lot of cattiness, bitchiness, and general assholery. None of that here. The birthday girl got promptly wasted and much chaos ensued, and no one yelled at us! A couple of amaretto sours, kamikazes, and $1 schnapps shots later and I was on stage singing Men In Black wondering where my life had gone so right and what had happened to my chill night. Then I went there again yesterday to catch the drag show. The girls were phenomenal and we got to hang out and take pictures with the lovely Kiana and Miss Anastasia Daniels. Oh God. The night is a blur. There was a lot of dancing on their teeny dance floor with the silly star-shaped lights. This is going to be my new favorite haunt. Forever. read more

Let's go to gay town! No, no one yelled this at me, it was just my inner monologue whispering softly inside my head on a Saturday night around 10:30pm. I had no idea what this place was or what to expect. But thank you, friend from A-town, for dragging me here. (Yes, friend is gay.) This is the kind of gay club I prefer. Not that glossy, Eurotrash, three-story S4 crap on Cedar Springs. Not that there's anything wrong with that! There is no body glitter here, no façade. Actually, I take the body glitter part back. Apparently there are two drag shows on Saturday! One at 10:30 and one at midnight. The queens were tall, fierce, and packing some serious wig-power. I envied their strappy stilettos, glittery minidresses, and ability to lip-sync effortlessly to Kelly Clarkson, Britney, and En Vogue. All colors and types of the rainbow (no pun intended) were here, and it felt like one big ethically diverse family. A pool table and darts were in the back, but I couldn't tear my eyes away from the big ladies. Most importantly: $1 Jello Shots! And a not-too-shabby selection of draft beers, including Blue Moon, for $2.75. Say wha??? It looked like they had some pretty good happy hour specials for Wednesdays and Sundays as well. I don't know when I'll ever be back in Arlington, but my goodness, I really enjoyed my drive up and down Division Street. The old roadside motels (and neon signs) were spectacular! Never change, Division Street, never change... I feel the quote from their website really sums it up best: "The 1851 CLUB Arlington is located in Arlington, the Entertainment Capitol of Texas." This bar is definitely on the list of dives on Division Street, but wait, this dive has Pabst on tap and some amazing drink specials. 50 cent PBRs on Wednesday and dollar PBRs on Sunday. Yay! On Saturdays there is a drag show at 9 and 11, if I remember the times correctly. The staff is friendly and the show was very entertaining. When I was younger I did not like coming to 1851 but this little cute bar has since grown on me as I have gotten a little older. The drinks are inexpensive, the bartenders are nice and the crowd here is friendly as hell. It's a very relaxed place to come and get your drink on. I've been going for a few years now and I LOVE this place!! It's one of the few bars in Arlington that is accepting of EVERYONE (even though technically it's a gay bar). I always feel safe going by myself. The staff and the bartenders are friendly and always welcoming to everyone especially newcomers. I LOVE them all, They ALL make you feel welcomed. I never go in and have a bad time. The queens are amazing. This bar has great weekly specials and $1.00 jell-o shot daily!! They have a great selection of songs you can play om the jukebox, Thursday night is karaoke KJ Tasha will make it fun and has lots of songs to chose from. Friday and Saturday night there is a Dj Daniel and Michael and also an amazing drag show hosted by Kiana Lee. Sundays are always laid back great way to end the week. Monday - Wednesday are always good too, like I said great drink specials. Heather, Kelsey, Shawn, Kieran, Austin, Trey, Joe, and Colby always serving the best drinks. Found this bar on Yelp. Went on a Saturday night. Wasn't too crowded. Bartender was amaziiiiing. Very decently priced drinks. Caught the end of the drag show. We went specifically to play pool. Games are $1 each and they do have a change machine on site. Nice mix of music, new and old. From pop to hip hop. Not much more to say then whats already been said. This is a GAY BAR/CLUB so if that makes you uncomfortable then don't come here. It's a small club kinda like a hole in the wall type place that's really really casual nothing fancy its a mixed crowed and the drink specials were pretty good. They also have $1 jello shots all day everyday! Drag show was very entertaining :) really the only thing I didn't like was that there wasn't enough air circulation to kinda clear out all the smoke from all the cigarettes, it made my eyes burn. read more
