I'm new to Calgary. When I had a chance to get dental coverage, I came to yelp.ca to make sure I was going to a company that makes sense. Dental Choice had 4 reviews with a good average. I always look for the most reviewed company and then, the average. My experience was positive. It was fast and all the staff was courteous at all time. They were very professional as well. As far as money goes, my Income Support (IS) covered it all. (it came to 399 $ for x-rays, cleaning, exam by dentist, etc.) I did receive a free toothbrush with soft hair with two types of floss. I know those are cheap for a bill of that much, however, I like receiving what the dentist actually wants me to use and having it of a quality that is on par with what I would buy in the store. Having two choices of floss to try is also important. Trying things in life is important to move forward and get out of your head (for me), I have a bit crowded teeth, meaning they are tight and flossing is difficult with thick floss. So now I can try and see what works. I will go see them again in a month to repair 4 small cavities. I was given the choice of having 2 x 20 min appointments or one 45 min one. I chose the later. I like their modern installation. It was among my top 3 dentist experience if not the best of my life. So for sure I recommend it for reliable dental care. read more

I had a great experience today at 17th ave Dental, and I would highly recommend this dental office. From the time I arrived to the warm and welcoming reception lobby, to being pleasantly greeted and assisted at the front desk, to the amazing service provided by both Ashley, and Dr. Zee, the full scope of services (check-up, x-rays) provided was nothing less than fantastic. Ashley was an absolute delight--giving me the comforting impression that patient care, and quality of service is a top priority at 17th Ave Dental. She took the time to explain everything she was doing, and even provided an informative, and enjoyable, tutorial on all the gadgets and processes she was doing. When Dr. Zee arrived, he also validated that patient care and quality of service is a key component of his dental practice. It was the first time I had received not just an oral examination, but a comprehensive review of my face and neck, which was very much appreciated. Dr. Zee was very thorough, provided options for treatment, and provided a very detailed explanation of everything. He was very friendly and left a very positive impression. I never thought I would ever say this, but I am actually looking forward to getting my cavities filled. Thank you. read more

When I first went here I had not been to a dentist in 6+ years and was dreading the cleaning and the possible shaming i would receive from the staff. as it happens, I lucked out. 17th ave Dental choice is not just the closest dentist to my home, but it is also the best in the city, if not the Provence. this is not to say that it was a walk in the park. you let your teeth go like that and there are going to be some very dark moments when you finally get them cleaned. I think at one point i was achieving Shaolin levels of self control to not run screaming from the office. So why was this such a good experiences? it was professional, clean, friendly and the explanations and instructions that Dr. Nagra gave me were encouraging and helpful with out sounding like i was being scolded. that being said she didn't let me of the hook either. I dont think its easy to tell Grown people that they suck at taking care of there teeth without coming of like your shaming them. some how she manages to be assertive and caring at the same time. there is no reason not to go to these fine people for your dental needs. Even if you have a dentist and you think they are good. it could be better. 17th ave Dental Choice is better. I promise that. read more

I haven't been to the dentist in a few years because, well, the whole idea scares me. But the team at 17th Ave Dental Choice really blew me away. I emailed about a wisdom teeth consult (because, again, I was too scared to be more proactive). They called me back immediately and set me up within a few days. The receptionists were professional yet personable, my dental assistant Ashley was friendly, knowledgeable, and always eased any worries I had. Finally, Dr. Z was incredible. He explained every thing to me as though I was a colleague (not some dummy who doesn't floss enough), he praised me when necessary, and was honest when he had to be. I had one upper wisdom tooth extraction and it was quick, painless, and I actually thought he was kidding when he said he was finished. As I'm new to the city, I am so relieved I waited as long as I did to see a dentist here, because I wouldn't have stumbled across this place if I hadn't. I visited this clinic and found the reception, hygienist and Dr. Nagra all very professional and friendly. When I booked my appointment it only took two days to get in and even after oversleeping and showing up 20 mins late for my appointment they scheduled me in later in the day to accommodate me. I often find reception/staff working in clinics, be it medical, dental etc., aren't overly friendly or helpful but this place definitely made me feel comfortable. My least favorite thing is having any kind of dental work but the hygienist made me feel very comfortable throughout the entire procedure. She seemed to spend a good deal of time on my teeth during the cleaning and I felt she didn't rush anything. She was also informative and friendly. Dr. Nagra also didn't seem to rush during my exam and took the time to describe what was going on and what she saw. I definitely had a positive experience here and would recommend to those new to the area in need of a dentist. read more

This has definitely been the greatest Dental experience ever. I am, like everyone, very anxious of the possible pain I may feel while getting dental work done. However, the staff at dental choice did everything in their power to ease my anxiety. The hygienist answered all of my questions without getting irritated with how childish, I am shameful to admit, my questions were. I had my wisdom tooth out. I did not need any stitches and even afterwards I was in no pain what so ever. I did not need to take one advil. Also, prior to my check up, the last time I had been at the dentist was over two years ago. I was afraid I would be chastised. However, the hygienist just explained what I needed to do in order to keep my teeth healthy. I think this team is great and I wish I could have found them years ago. read more

The staff here are friendly and professional, they have the latest and greatest in technology to help with whatever it is that's going on with your mouth, which is inspiration enough for me to stay on top of my mouth health, and be more diligent about going every 6 months (like we're supposed to). My teeth feel smooth like glass thanks to Shirley Trinh's amazing cleaning!! Honestly, I've never had a cleaning stand out like Shirley's, she's top notch at what she does, so thank u Shirley, I love how u made my teeth look and feel! Dr. Piccoli is my new dentist, and I really appreciate how she explains everything while she's working on my teeth... it's refreshing to have a dentist who actually explains what's going on, and has such a pleasant manner, so hats off to u Dr. Piccoli! read more

Each time I visit 17th ave Dental Choice, whether for myself or my kids, I always leave more than satisfied and thoroughly perplexed as to why every professional dental office can't deliver this level of commendable care. Last week I had another cleaning with hygienist Kaylan Mahelal and I can't recommend her enough. She was thorough, generous with her Jmkwongtime and knowledge, considerate of my individual needs, and genuine in her concern, attentiveness, and honesty with all of my questions. She clearly values the opportunity to get to know her patients, and has pride in her work and her ability to connect--as she should, because she is just great in every aspect of her job! Dr. Nagra is awesome!! She was able to solve a problem that I have been having for quite a while. I can actually chew on the left side of my mouth now without feeling pain. She knows what she is doing. Other dentists were never able to address my problem without recommending expensive treatments. Dr. Nagra and her staff are very friendly, & because of this the office has a pleasant atmosphere. She takes her time to explain what she is about to do and why she is doing it. Dental Choice on 17th is great! I am a new patient to them and couldn't be happier with the treatment or the service. The receptionists are so professional and friendly. The environment itself is so nice, the design of it is all open which is great, you don't feel closed in a room. It is so nice inside everything looks brand new and well taken care of. The dental hygienists are very knowledgable and really make sure you feel comfortable and informed about your treatment. The dentist I had was Dr.Damji who is a really excellent dentist. Dental Choice is pretty much the biggest rip off in dental choice in Calgary. No pun intended. On top of that the employees here are as shady as used car salesmen pushing unnecessary services on you to make a fast buck. I have used Dental Choice for 3 years, unfortunately, and only because I didn't have a choice while an undergrad student at the U of C. Thankfully that nightmare came to an end when I got a more flexible insurance plan through my employer. Good riddance and good bye. STAY AWAY. read more

I've been to Dental Choice on 17th Ave twice now, and I love this place. The staff is very professional and efficient, and the office is very nice and clean. The dental hygienist, Shirley, is amazing, she left my teeth and gums like new! And gave me excellent recommendations very easy to follow. This clinic is the best dental office I have been to. I have not been to see a dentist in 5 years - I have a fear of needles, and my last dentist in Winnipeg was not good.
