Came to 1747 Pub on a Haunted Ghost Tour in Annapolis. While the pub it self seemed to be nice and the the staff accommodating, the management is what turned us off. We were a family, the guide of the tour instructed us to go to the back bar and get our cocktails before taking them outside. So we did as instructed. As the bartender was taking our order, the manager, Tony, we were told his name by our guide, came to two of us and told us we could not order at the bar and had to go to the one in the front we had passed on our way in. He was very rude and when we tried to talk tell him we were all on one check he just shook his head and said you have to order here. Ok, so we go to the front bar, all seats are filled, no where to order a drink, so we decided that Tony didn't want our buisiness. Maybe we will come back in the summer. I was unfortunately sent to this bar as a part of a Pub Crawl/Tavern Tour during a recent visit to Annapolis from Pennsylvania. To preface, let me state that I am 23 years old, which for those of you keeping score at home, is above legal drinking age. My friend and I were both carded at the door, presented our driver's licenses, and were allowed entrance by the bar's bouncer. Due to poor organization on the part of the pub crawl, there was no one there to meet us, so we were chatting with the patrons and the bartender, who was originally very friendly. We decided to order a drink while waiting for our tour guide. When carded by the bartender, we were told that we could not be served. For anyone unfamiliar, PA licenses are vertical when issued before the driver's 21st birthday. There is a bold red line that states "UNDER 21 UNTIL" and the date that the driver will turn 21. PA licenses are valid until they expire, x number of years after they are issued. You do NOT get issued a new horizontal license just because you are now of legal drinking age, which is why they do the math for you and clearly list your 21st birthday. The bartender said that is was policy not to serve anyone with a vertical license and rudely dismissed any further questions. The bouncer, who had previously looked and at been fine with my license, suddenly was also trying to tell me that it was invalid. We were happy to leave the bar, but were guided right back to it when we finally tracked down our tour guide. The guide, who was obviously familiar with the bartenders, went to speak with them for a couple of minutes, and then returned to tell us that our driver's licenses were illegal, and that we should immediately get them changed. I understand that Maryland and Pennsylvania apparently have different policies when it comes to driver licenses. No problem. If you don't want my money because my license is sideways, that is fine by me. But please do not take it upon yourself to tell me that my license with a clear expiration date is not a legal license. I've driven with it, I have flown with it, and I have been served at bars with it for years without issue. My tour guide tried to justify the bar's odd behavior by telling me that the Maryland Beverage Control Board was four doors down and the bartenders just didn't want to get in trouble. For serving people of legal drinking age. For the record, none of the other bars or restaurants we visited during our time in Maryland had any issue with our licenses. And again, confusion over the license is fine. Not serving me is fine. The rude attitude of the staff and the declaration that my driver's license was "illegal" is what I take issue with. My license does in fact expire later this year. But it is safe to say my new horizontal license and I will not be returning to 1747. read more

Slowest service ever. EVER. I waited over an hour for my meal (a sandwich and fries) at 1:30 PM on a Monday (at a time when there was little traffic in the restaurant). I'm not sure if they were understaffed or what was going on but it was way too long to wait for a Rueben sandwich and a BLT. The food was okay-- not bad not good. read more

One of the oldest establishments so we stopped in for a beer. Our server; Tim has only been there for a month! Found that hard to believe. Perhaps it was the care and skill that blew me away. When he took our drink order my little guy ordered lemonade. My hubby said, "cool look, they make it fresh here." I ordered an awesome pulled pork happy hour appetizer that was great! I dug right in, and forgot to get a pic for y'all, but trust me, at $5.00 it did not disappoint! When Tim, our server returned with our Childs 3rd lemonade, I told him, that was it for our little lemonadeaholic. I commented that I've never seen them made fresh and I must have missed it on the menu because I didn't see it. He said, "no they aren't on the menu, but I hope they were okay". I was like, "Dude, he drank 3, I'm going to assume they were amazing!" Place is 4.5, but Tim made the total experience a 5! read more

I suggest going here for a good chuckle at the staff and ownership dynamics. This place has a lot going for it in terms of location and ambiance. The inside pub is an old school colonial basement with low ceilings and beams and would be a nice winter hangout. It's small so there are some issues with that. The outside has a raised patio and a very beautiful courtyard and outdoor bar. I've had a couple food items here. Potato skins with lots of blue cheese but undercooked and a wonderful bacon macaroni and cheese calorie bomb. One night I was there, a new hostess/waitress came in. The owner gave her less than 5 minutes of training and sent her on her way. There were maybe 7 tables/20 people coming in for afternoon drinks and it threw the outside service into chaos. The two owners stand there and brood and stand over the help, all the while not really lending any tangible help. The bartender is expected to not only service the bar and drinks for the restaurant, but also wait tables. You could look out over the tables and tell that people needed service but they were invisible to the staff in their hectic chaos. They have a speciality drink night with teas, but no one really seems to know how to make them even though the directions are on the tea containers. Items seem to be constantly misplaced or not stocked. They were serving sodas out of non-functioning guns that had no carbonation. The owners chided staff that they should have been aware of that, when really the owners should have just put bags over them to prevent their use. It was all pretty funny to watch, like one of those food channel shows for restaurants in trouble. I would advise going there for a leisurely drink or two and watch the show. read more

Friendly service, a great atmosphere; we had a great time here and would definitely return when we're back in annapolis

So my wife and I have been regulars here for about 3 years. We would go every Wednesday (because let's be honest half price burger which are really good) and at least once or twice during the weekend. They use to have a good crew of bartenders that we got to know very well. All of them have left except for one server. The crew they have now just really does not care about customer service. Today we ordered drinks at the bar and were going to carry them outside to their back patio, which was closed but people had done the same thing. We were told rudely by a guy upstairs we couldn't go out there and they were closing it. We proceeded back down to the pub (great atmosphere), which is why we made this our regular spot and found an open table. We NEVER got attention from anyone. Long story short if you want a good atmosphere, decent food and rotating beer list, this is the place for you. However if you are looking for stellar service and good customer service you are going to the wrong restaurant. read more

My husband wanted to stop by this pub because of their creative selection of beers. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they make really good mixed drinks at good prices (during happy hour). They also have good happy hour prices on food...which has all been delicious so far. More specifically, their crab dip and sweet potato fries are amazing! I really enjoy the old pub atmosphere. We go early during happy hour before it gets crowded so its always been quiet and relaxing. Its a great place to go after a stressful week at work. read more

This place was fun. They had a great selection of drinks and the old time fireplace was pretty neat. It's extremely laid back.
