He was a regular at 160 Foot Spa and we walked in to a " Hey Frank" a la Cheers but with a beautiful Chinese twist as the lovely owner came out and welcomed us warmly. The place was rockin' and every chair was full. Loved that! We waited on the couch for maybe 6 minutes and put on some comfy slippers. We were then beckoned to the main enclosed room by two really nice and polite gentleman. I got the best, deep, strong,thorough foot, ankle, calf and shin massage- ever! The masseuse knew his stuff and the trigger points and was sensitive to the parts of my feet and leg where I had been injured. He was amazing! It was a full 60 minutes, not 52 not 57!! There were people waiting but the team here was honorable and honest. I felt like I was walking on feathers afterwards. Slept for almost 6 hours that night( record for me). It's $25 per hour. Super no frills 60-min foot massage for $25! I love places where they truly provide a massage, and not just a lotioned foot rub. I decided on a whim to stop by and the place was already packed. It appears that all foot masseuses are male, whereas full body masseuses are female. Not an issue at all - they were super respectful and provided blankets for my lap since I was wearing a dress. The masseuse that I had gave a foot massage that hurt so good - there were times that I had to ask him to let up on the pressure a bit. But my feet & legs felt amazing after! When you walk in, they change your shoes into flip flops they provide for you. They also spray something (assuming it's disinfectant spray) on it after you use it for the next clients. Friendly staff, most do ask if the strength is okay. If not, then you can let them know. Cleanliness for this place is a good for what I've experienced. They change the bags first where you soak your feet for foot massage and they change the table bed sheets/towels too. Been here twice and haven't yet experienced the mandatory tipping horrors that many people seem to complain about. I came here for a full-body massage the first time and a foot massage the second time. The full-body massage from whom I assume was the owner (an older female) was okay and I tipped around 20%, which they didn't stop me for or anything. The second time, I came here for a foot massage and BOY, WAS IT WORTH IT. I was pretty much literally on the edge of my seat and holding on to the armrests, using every ounce of resistance to scream because my masseuse was either SO good at finding my pressure points or I was just fragile everywhere. But I really appreciated that he checked to see how I was feeling to modify pressure when he hit those sensitive spots. I felt that tipping $20 was appropriate because of how hard he worked. If you really think about the conditions that these workers work under, they don't really speak English well and I'm sure not everyone aspires to massage through other people's toe funguses, so you can take a guess that they don't get paid well either. Yes, it sucks that service employees rely on tips to survive. But if you tip well (or don't), people will remember you and provide you with services accordingly. Other reviews complain about the minimum tip being $15 which is really no big deal if you think about it. $35 for a great foot massage, try finding that elsewhere with this kind of service. Personally, I think they do such a great job, I tip them $20. I've done the body massage once or twice which is o-k. If you have sensitive joints, be sure to let them know before they start! My spine has an issue and I didn't let them know the first time and well...it hurt! But that's my fault. Protip - Try to call and make a reservation. The tech I had the first time did a wonderful 90-minute job. The second time, not as much. The place got loud at times, but not by too much or for too long. The service fee is fair, but the pressure I witnessed a manager give to another customer about leaving a 25% gratuity felt inappropriate and unprofessional. Bad customer service. Every time we call they don't seem to understand what we are saying. We recommended them to our relatives and friends and they kept giving us the wrong service. Simple mistake makes a huge difference like if you requested a male masseur, you come in and they have a lady waiting. To defend themselves, they would say "you never said that!" Or the receptionist does not understand English. We understand language barrier could be an issue but wouldn't it be nice to hire a bilingual receptionist if miscommunication is an issue ... all the time? I am a bilingual myself and I know how important it is to be able to speak to your community. This is NYC, I am sure they can hire someone. They ask you to change into the slippers when stepping in so feel a bit Korean store. Got 1 hour full body and 1 hour foot massage. The body massage was average, and feet massage was horrible. I get 2 hour massages once a week, so I know my shit. There was no precision, just rough man handling for my feet. I kept asking him to go lighter and to put pressure on the nerves that really count (i.e. reflexology). You have to be careful with reflexology. Each nerve in your feet is supposedly connected to an organ. He had no idea what he was doing... What really pissed me off about this place was that they demanded a 100% tip from my boyfriend and I for our feet massage. We were paying 80% tip for a shit massage, but they wanted the full 100%. She told us "this isn't a restaurant". I was livid, and told her "pretty sure you don't tip 80% in a restaurant". Anyways, I'll never be going back here again, and will continue to go to my usual spots that charge MORE. Our most recent visit: Upon entering, you take your shoes off and slip on flip flops. My mom, guest and I were all given a cup of hot tea. Once seated, you soak your feet in water. Huge plus for me are the plastic wraps they put in the bowl for each customer. Reflexology is meant to stimulate the pressure points on your feet. So yes they put a lot of pressure when massaging your feet, ankles and lower legs. If you need a gentler touch, let the tech know. I've never had an issue with them easing up on the pressure.
