Always enjoy 16 handles except this time . The employee at the time was super unhelpful. Several yogurt handles were mislabeled and several were not working. We asked about the strawberry one that wasn't working. She responded something' softly, had to ask her to repeat herself several times, and she just didn't do anything. Later a man came in with 3 other people and asked about the strawberry flavor. She reluctantly went out, did something and now it was working , although we had already finished.The sweet cream had a blue yogurt coming out and she said " it's supposed to be like that!" ( that would indeed be strange ). In conclusion , some handles weren't working, some were mislabeled , and some were just out and the person working there couldn't care less. My best friend told me about this place years ago and I've been in love with the frozen yogurt here ever since (though a litttttlllleeeee pricey)! So much so, we don't even bat an eye at the fact that we drive 30 minutes just for a taste of this goodness!! I have two moods when I come here: fruity and chocolatey. When I'm not sold on which road I want to take, I just ask for samples before deciding and customizing my bowl. I also really love using the waffle bowls when I'm in a chocolatey mood. Unfortunately on our last visit the place was very unkempt ( floors very dirty, toppings bar and yogurt machine areas were dirty, and don't look behind the seating as I don't think it's been cleaned in some time ) Unfortunately, the person working there at the time seemed more interested in their phone, and was not in the front of the store when another customer was looking for some help. I actually haven't been to this location in years since they first opened many years ago. After attending an event next door, we were still hungry for dessert. As for looks, the set up is simple. Grab a cup, fill it up with the flavor(s) of your choosing and then add toppings and or syrups to your frozen treat. The flavors rotate throughout the year and are displayed on the tiny screens above the dispenser bars. Each flavor also shows you the nutritional values on the screens and whether it's gluten free or fat free. Currently they have a cereal flavors in rotation. They had the Froot Loops flavor which was surprisingly very delicious. My friends and I all agreed that the sweet taro pie was the best flavor we tried that visit. If you're not sure what flavor to choose, ask the cashier at the register for some sample cups to see what tickles your palate. Since the value of the fro-yo is dependent on weight of the cup, a little tip to make sure you don't spend a lot of money is to always choose the small cup, so you don't add more than you intended to. What is really neat now is they have cup dividers that you can add to your cup incase you want to keep flavors separated. There is also options for waffle bowls (for additional cost) or to have a smoothie. They try to promote being green to separate the waste, but it can be a little confusing where to place each piece of trash. It probably would be easier if they just labeled in parentheses to place what items where. The parking lot is shared by other businesses. From my experience, the lot does get busier during holiday times. They also have weekly specials 12pm-6pm and don't forget to check in with trust ol' yelp for $1 off your cup. read more

I get we are in the middle of a pandemic that is no excuse to take advantage via high prices and small portions. Recently I ordered a small and medium and both cups were only half filled. The total cost along with 5 toppings for both cups all together was $26. Unbelievable. When we go and do it ourselves it is by weight and usually half this amount. Love the different selections of flavors here. I tried the chocolate eruption which was good, the birthday cake (literally tasted like a birthday cake but in frozen yogurt), the coffee was so-so and the red velvet which was okay. This concept is certainly not that innovative. There are plenty of chains popping up that are "create your own" just the fact that you actually serve yourself might be a bit more fun. The inside is decorated very cute - it's pinkberry meets dylans candy shop etc. I liked the idea that they display the nutrition facts on the frozen yogurt but hey with toppings like m&m's, cheesecake bits (which I loved!) and pretty much every type of candy under the sun....who's counting calories anyway?? I think this shop beats the average red mango / pinkberry and if they change the flavors it might just be a keeper! read more

Therefore, by the time I came to 16 handles I was in love with everything about this shop. All of the yogurt machines are working. They are clearly labeled. You can sample whichever flavors you like. There is a huge variety of yogurts to try. There are even two sizes of cups. When I went to pay the person at the register was friendly, handed me a cute spoon, and even help me figure out if my 16 handles points card was synced with the app on my phone. Let me just start off by saying that this place is managed excellently. I remember once I came in little over a month ago and the manager was very helpful and every employee had a smile on their face. Honestly the owner made an exceptional choice hiring the manager, the dude literally made me feel so comfortable. So today I come in. Place is clean, yet the asian employee was still scrubbing the floor. The tall brown worker greeted me with a smile and gave me sample cups without me even asking, it's like he knew as soon as I looked him in the eye. This is your typical froyo place with 16 available flavors and even more available toppings. I looked at their entire flavors list on the website before going and was excited to try some of the flavors. Sadly, when we arrived, none of the flavors I wanted to try were there :( the available flavors were just ok - was not impressed by the cookie butter, graham cracker, peanut butter, cheesecake, or birthday cake. I ended up getting a combo of euro tart, vanilla, and watermelon sorbet. This place is definitely trying to trendy with neon lights that change color. There also seems to be lots of marketing material around to promote their "brand," but none of it has their name...lol not sure if that helps them at all...There's a whole wall of seating but no tables inside...kinda interesting. My friends and I sat at one of the only two tables outside. Overall, everything was ok, but nothing was outstanding. Lots of kids (high school/middle school) made their ways over while we were there. You can make your froyo so eclectic it's terribly disgusting to everyone but you. They change the flavors pretty often and some are a little under par in the flavor dept (peanut butter/cake batter/pistachio) but the key here is diversity! This place gets so crowded at night; you'd think there'd be something other than froyo attracting people like mosquitoes to the light here. Nope! Also: Good luck finding a place to sit. North shore moms in Ugg(ly) boots and furry vests will nudge you off the pastel colored seating along the wall while you're enjoying your frozen treats. Did I mention? It's pay by weight. The place is always clean when you walk in and they have great staff. It's called 16 handle because they have 16 flavors of frozen yogurt and you pull the handle. You get the choice of a bowl or cone, once you decide you add any topping you like. Bananas, chocolate, cookies dough, and sprinkles are a small few they offer. After your done with the food decorations you weight it and that's how you pay! It's a great idea because if you want to save money, don't add a lot of toppings. For me it's a treat so I go crazy!! The pictures of the yogurt looked delicious so I was intrigued. I read the reviews and found them to be mixed. Most of the reviews said that the flavors were delicious and they were correct. The negative comments came from the cleanliness, availability of yogurt and staff. I can confirm that the reviews were correct. My husband and I got to the store at 10:20, they close at 10:30. One employee had already locked the door but when she saw that we stood there and didn't move she opened the door. I picked my cup and went to the dispensers but they were messy with dried yogurt all over. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a few hours. I looked at the flavors that they had on offer, I stopped at toasted marshmallow and nothing came out...disappointing. There were three other flavors that weren't working and two that weren't labeled. I chose my two flavors and moved on to the toppings section. I am not exaggerating but only three toppings had spoons in them. My husband said something and the employee gave us spoons. I understand that they were getting ready to close but once people came in the spoons should have been ready. Did my first experience deter me from coming back? No, I plan on coming back because the flavors were amazing. After my next visit that will determine if I become a recurring customer. read more

Sixteen Handles offers a good range of flavor selection. I was interested in several, but when it came down to it, I had to get the taro, which is difficult to find. I know they have a rewards program which is great to keep customers loyal. We had to wait for an employee to be available to give us sample cups. In the middle of winter, I liked how they offered promotions to keep the customers coming in. Unfortunately, our visit was past the hours of the 50% off promotion, but we were able to claim $1 off with a yelp check in, which was sweet! I liked the flavor of the taro; that purple goodness is what makes my taste buds jump! When compared to other frozen yogurt places, this place, although it says it uses dairy (I am lactose intolerant), did not upset my stomach, which is a plus. I had a small taro with a few toppings. When compared to other competitors such as Red Mango, I noticed that 16 Handles yogurt is not that bound together. The way it melts is more quickly as if ice to water. Red Mango's yogurt has more a creamy consistency (which is starting to bother my stomach in recent visits, unfortunately and has me seeking other froyo options). Overall in taste, I prefer my froyo creamier which is why Red Mango is my usual go to place. This place could quickly become my second option if there were more locations. From the flavors I had sampled, it seems like the taste to me is either a hit or a miss. I sampled the hazelnut gelato, which tasted more like coffee than hazelnut. Was the wrong sign placed up (the hazelnut gelato was a written sign taped up). The other flavors I sampled were as follows: birthday cake (too sweet, tasted very artificial), and red velvet (also tasted artificial). Also I noticed the signs of two of the rows of toppings should have been switched and notified the worker. In addition, one of the machines I was trying to sample did work (no yogurt came out of the machine, so I gave up on the flavor). Since the pricing on each cup is by weight, I suggest you go light on the toppings... as you will be paying a steep price for bits of oreo cookies, cereal, or pieces of fruits. I like the mission of the franchise which tries to encourage patrons to recycle their plastic pink spoons, and to place them on the proper bins. It would surely make things easier if they labelled the bins as such: "spoons", "cups", and "everything else". You may think it is common sense but many people also lack common sense or do not care to take two minutes to think about which bin is the proper one. read more

They charge you by the weight. I've filled up my small cup before, no toppings & it cost $7.50. I've filled a medium, a few toppings & that came out to $10. The prices are ridiculous for froyo! The only upside is that Monday-Friday they have deals for each day & if you check in on yelp you can get a dollar off. The froyo is good, and the place is always clean, and the staff is always nice but if you can find a cheaper froyo place in the area I would. read more

My husband and I went to 16 handles at 9:40 pm they close at 10:30 the machines were cycling there wash and they were pulling the grates out of the machines, why not just lock the doors? ewwww.. I walked in and it was packed filled with little kids all the way up to groups of adults, needless to say it was loud and there was no where to sit. No biggie I move on and I wait in line to get my frozen yogurt and I am really enjoying the selection of flavors, a little bit of this a little bit of that.. ohh now I get to pile on the candy.. YUM what could be bad? Then it all goes sour. I pay for my small yogurt and okay its not cheap it came out to about $9.00, fine whatever its a novelty. This is when I drew the line.. I found a place to sit after a few minutes and I am watching people pile on candy and I see this little girl peed on herself THEN she scratches her wet pajama pants and puts her hand in the candy!! VOMIT.. very unsanitary, her parents let her grab things with her hands is bad enough but the fact that she was touching her wet pee pee pants on top of everything is enough to make me want to barf.
