There is a lot of individual responsibility required to make it through the course successfully. The school is structured in a way that revolves around your drive and motivation. That is to say there isn't help along the way. I've made some really great friends through my time at TRCoA, and everyone is really supportive. There's a real sense of community and camaraderie with the instructors and other students in the curriculum. On an institutional level, John and the staff help you through the whole recording, mixing and mastering process. From booking my first band to mastering my first project, I never really felt lost or overwhelmed. John's hand picked instructors are also key parts to why I enjoy TRCoA so much. Everyone is very knowledgeable, friendly and able to help you with any issue or problem you may run into. I'd say one of the biggest advantages is the unfettered access to the studio. 24/7/365. The doors are wide open and ultimately work around what schedule works best for you. I've spent my fair share of nights up until 530a mixing and on other days I've woken up at 6a just to get in early. I can't even imagine how another recording school would teach the material effectively without that much practical, hands-on access to the gear. The only reason I've marked 4/5 is because the program might not be for everyone. As I had mentioned earlier, I never felt overwhelmed....but there definitely isn't a lot of hand-holding either. If you're unable to make the project deadlines or contact artists on a regular basis you'll fall behind. That said, my time at The Recording Conservatory of Austin has been fantastic. If you've got the motivation, drive and passion... this school is perfect for you

King Electric has become a really flexible and accommodating space to work in as both an artist and engineer. The gear is top notch, instruments (guitars, keyboards, and miscellany) are plentiful, and the control room is stellar. Justin is ceaselessly responsive, professional and is incredibly dedicated to the best way to to make the music that you want to make. Ego always takes a back seat to world-class results. It was nice working with Kfir because he has a very positive attitude and makes sure everything possible is done to make the recordings sound the way I want them. I was in a garage band in college almost 2 decades ago, and we occasionally get together to jam,…read morebut recently we decided we wanted to rent a room in a studio to jam. Looking at all the options in the Austin area, Space ATX was convenient, affordable, and we just liked the overall vibe. The space itself is deceptively big. The exterior is relatively modern and inviting. The entrance and lobby is a funky, trendy, yet retro. The place is immaculate, and everything looks in order. The staff is helpful and professional You can choose from standard rooms, large rooms, rooms for recording audio or video. The rooms have an hourly and daily rate. The rooms provide solid acoustics, and they keep any unwanted external noise out Some tips: It's a much better deal to go with the daily rate, and honestly, it's incredibly affordable. The large room can be reserved for the day for just over $200. And this reservation goes past midnight into the morning if you need. It's BYOB, so, bring a cooler and drinks. The rooms get a little warm, so, I would consider bringing a fan or two We had a blast getting the band back together, and while we were taking a break outside on one of the benches, we watched so many bands and solo artists funnel in and out, and we thought to ourselves... what if these guys or this person is the next big thing. What if we are? It was exciting, and we had an amazing time Cheers!!

Other places I checked out either had monthly rates only, or you had to bring your own cymbals. Coming from out of town, that wouldn't work for me. The space was roomy with everything you needed to hook up your laptop or any instrument you play. I was able to get in for an hourly rate which was super affordable. I went in late from 11pm - 2am and what impressed me most is that Patrick acknowledged that I was a woman out late alone and he let me know he was one phone call away if I needed him and ensured the door was locked for my safety. Either this place has really gone down hill in recent years or these reviews are fake…read more They describe it like "We supply top notch, great sounding rehearsal rooms for the most discerning musicians..." what a joke. It's nice to have a rehearsal space north of Austin. This one however is a pit. the photos online are misleading. the spaces are tiny, filthy and the smell was unbearable. The bigger problem was a lack of sound dampening. a rock band was rehearsing in the space next to us and we could barely hear ourselves think. For the record, I'm not a Prima Donna. I don't expect much from a rehearsal space. However, showing large, clean rooms on the website while delivering cramped, carpet stained stink holes is misleading. clearly the owners have zero pride and believe that musicians don't care. Make the trip down south to Space. the extra 20 miles is nothing. This is not a professional rehearsal space. Perhaps it's fine for garage bands, but pro players will be put off by it. As a band leader it reflects poorly on my professionalism.
