MCV Campus Recreation and Aquatic Center - Lap pool (25 meters)

I'm very pleased to have this gem so close to work! Not huge, but facilities are great, and most…read moreimportantly there is a 25 meter lap pool! This is located within the student center of VCU's MCV campus. As a recent alum (and now member of the Alumni Association) I have access to both this gym and the Cary Street, all for $26/mo and no contract. It's a great deal IMO. As a runner converted to triathlete, I joined this gym for two main reasons: great pool and shower facilities by work. I often run on my lunch break, so I needed somewhere to shower during warmer weather. So far, so good. I do more than just swim and shower now too! Things I really like: *6 lane pool that is 25 meters and DOESN'T GET TAKEN up by kid's teams. YAAAY. VCU has a separate pool for its varsity teams. *Pool temp is cooler than others I've used *2 separate locker rooms- smaller for pool, huge for main gym *Keiser bikes. This is my favorite type of stationary bike for training. *Lockers that come with manual code-entry locks- no need to bring your own lock *Private and spacious showers *Doesn't seem to get overly crowded at peak times like conventional gyms Things I Don't Like: *Gym is fairly warm with bad ventilation (I'm a sweater as it is) *Non-student members use ID to enter and attendant has to manually look up. A little inconvenient. *Flimsy chairs in locker rooms. Would be nice to have bolted benches like normal locker rooms. *I'm also a member at Scott's Addition and find weight machines modern and nicer

MCV Campus Recreation and Aquatic Center is another gym I play basketball and workout at from time…read moreto time. This gym doesn't have big crowds like Cary St Gym on the Monroe Park Campus. The workout area is spacious and modern. The fitness area has a wide variety of cardio machines for students/customers. There's a stretching room with mats, yoga balls, and ab coasters to work on your core. There's a nice size pool and heated spa inside the center. The basketball courts are modern. On Saturdays, I occasionally play pickup basketball here with friends. There are racquetball and squash courts as well. The locker room area was remodeled. You can safely store your items while you workout. The staff is friendly. I give MCV Campus Recreation and Aquatic Center a 4.5 rating.
