We went in to get two different flavors: - Pineapple ginger -lime, and lemon She added those flavors on at no additional cost, just as an additional solid for us. Really great, really refreshing. One of the best fresh cane juices we've had in a long time. Highly recommend if you're looking for something to quench your thirst during this hot summer sun. Service was really quick as well, and the ambience was really nice on the inside. Not a lot of space to drink inside, but plenty of space to drink outside. Highly recommend, 10 out of 10.

They use fresh sugarcane instead of frozen, and if you've had enough sugarcane juice, you can absolutely taste it. The flavor here is richer, earthier, and more complex than places like Vita Cane. Even the color is different. It's a little murkier and less transparent, which was my first clue that this was going to taste different. My husband and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and were surprised to find no line. Ordering is done through a tablet kiosk at the front, and as soon as we finished placing our order, the woman working immediately started making everything fresh. We ordered the Sugar Cane Float to enjoy there and a half gallon of sugarcane juice to bring home. The float was unexpectedly good! Better than anticipated. We chose vanilla ice cream (they also had coconut, coffee, and another flavor I can't remember), and the two scoops melted into the sugarcane juice, giving it a creamy, almost milkshake-like texture while still tasting refreshing. I've never seen this offered at Vita Cane before, and now I'm already planning to come back to try the coconut version. The shop itself is very clean, with bench seating by the front windows if you'd like to wait for your order or enjoy your drink there. The woman working was also incredibly kind. When our half gallon was ready, she recommended portioning it out and freezing anything we wouldn't drink within three days so it would stay fresh. Good advice... except we ended up finishing the entire thing in two days! If you're a sugarcane juice fan and think all sugarcane juice tastes the same, Fresh Cane might change your mind. The difference between fresh and frozen cane is surprisingly noticeable, and this has easily become one of my favorite spots in SGV for a refreshing drink.

As you'd suspect, it serves the Chinese-speaking community specializing in Ginseng as well as other "health" items. Ginseng is believed to deliver many benefits as a stimulant, aphrodisiac, or general cure for whatever ails you. Since it only grows in a few places in the world and ... apparently ... has wide variances in quality, Ginseng can range in prices dramatically. Yuen Fung Sum Yong is one of the "cheaper" sellers of Ginseng in the area, but it can still be hundreds of bucks for a small pack of "the good stuff." This store's main offering is Made in America Wisconsin Ginseng; however, wild Ginseng, Bird's Nests, Shark's Fins (allegedly), and other rare Asian medicinal and health foods are available, too. Bring someone who speaks Mandarin to negotiate ... and good luck. There's got to be a price you can both agree is fair. Parking is free for the entire shopping center.

Prices are fair, and Chinese herbs and delicacy items are of good quality. Our go-to place to buy shitake mushrooms, ginseng, sea cucumbers, abalone, shark fin, etc. Don't come alone if you're not familiar with what you want and need to get. These Chinese ladies are blunt, but I guess sometimes that's their culture, and they don't mean to be disrespectful. If they do, speak up! (I always get rude ladies yelling at me at these Chinese places around here (not this place), speak up, and yell back, lol) Free tip: Always ask for a discount or a free gift if buying large quantities or higher price items. ;-)

The Green Grocer was founded by two folx of color a year or so ago and is at the intersection of El Sereno, South Pas, and Alhambra (next to the neighborhood favorite Charles Trio). Co-owner Erika will welcome you with her big smile and vibrant spirit. As you browse their well-curated selection of breads, beverages, veggies, spices, desserts, and so much more...you start to notice the products by women of color small businesses and many hyperlocal growers (the lavender is from Bell, my hometown!) and it makes you feel good. Good to know that even though some prices might be a bit steeper than the box chain stores, you have confidence that your money actually supports a small business and in turn our community. Personally, I align with their overall ethos and feel at home every time I visit. Invest in yourself through yummy locally sourced foods (vegan options available) and stay for the good company and conversation (don't forget to check out the community cork board, too!). All the staff are very knowledgeable and super sweethearts. Stop by when you're in the neighborhood but don't forget to check their open hours beforehand. Also, there is a hidden little parking lot down a short alleyway behind the laundromat. I would recommend following them on IG for all the updates, weekly specialty foods, and weekend pop-ups where they feature a small cafe, bakery, etc. Who knows...I might just run into you there right before closing as I grab their chipotle crab ceviche and house chips to-go (my fav)!
