DO NOT STAY HERE!!! My wife and I had a reservation to stay here for our honeymoon. After several delays due to covid restrictions and being unable to travel, we decided to book a "stay cation" at this B&B. My wife made a reservation through booking.com online, and about 10 minutes after making that reservation I received a call and voicemail from Monique, the "proprietor," stating that "If you call and book through me directly then breakfast is included and you will actually save some money." We cancelled OUR booking.com reservation and made my reservation with Monique DIRECTLY- she asked if we were celebrating anything special. I told her we were celebrating our honeymoon. We arrived for our reservation and Monique DID NOT HAVE OUR RESERVATION. She then blamed me for "not calling her back." She did NOT seem to recall the discussion about the champagne, but she did not have a room. We were unable to stay for our honeymoon. She "seemed" sorry about the confusion and offered us to come back and stay for free in the future. "I can't make another room, but I can offer you a free night, and if you can come back on a Monday through Thursday then I can upgrade you to a suite." We ASKED HER MULTIPLE TIMES to put that in writing considering she messed up our reservation once - she said "I am the only one here- I messed up once I won't do it again." I called today to make the "free reservation" for a Saturday night this fall. Monique stated that the "offer" was for a Monday through Thursday only. THIS IS NOT WHAT SHE SAID AT THE TIME, WHICH IS WHY WE WANTED HER OFFER AND MISTAKE IN WRITING. She refused to honor her offer to correct HER mistake, and then proceeded to blame me on the phone again despite her REFUSAL to put the "free night" in writing. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! As part of my birthday celebration, my husband treated me to a stay at 10 Clarke Place on 12/13/2014 and what a special treat it was! Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived. Monique is charming and immediately made us feel welcome as guests at her beautiful Victorian home. We stayed in the Turret Room and enjoyed all of it's special amenities. The mattress was superb, with individual heat settings for each side. The ensuite bathroom with heated marble floors, rainforest shower and beautiful backlit vanity was a treat. The furnishings are all period and very beautiful. We had friends meet us at the house before walking to Volt. Monique had chilled our bottle of champagne and provided us with lovely champagne glasses and home baked treats. Upon arriving "home" from Volt, we found our bed turned back and experienced a peacefully quiet night of sleep. Breakfast was over the top good! A tasty smoothie to start was followed by ricotta pancakes with homemade orange syrup and smoked applewood bacon. An herby frittata was also passed. Monique (along with her new aide, Ian) has mastered the fine art of being a gracious, but not overbearing B&B hostess. We definitely will return. read more

My sister and I were only able to spend 1 night at this quaint Bed and Breakfast, but that one evening and morning was all it took for us to become completely in love. The atmosphere is so warm and cozy! Upon arrival, wine and cake was ready for us to enjoy as we relaxed from the drive. The bedroom was beautiful! The bed was so comfy and it came with a dual control mattress warmer. My sister wanted her side warm and I wanted my side cool - we were both happy! The next morning Chef Michael prepared a delectable breakfast complete with the best smoothie I have ever had and homemade cocoa yeast waffles that were to die for! Michelle, the hostess, made a homemade hot sauce that should be bottled for sale! If that wasn't enough, the ingredients were all local! Michael and Michelle was so friendly, it seemed as if we new them for a lifetime. The area also offers something for everyone. Michelle took time to mark up a map of Frederick so we would know the absolute best places to visit and dine. My sister and I are making this trip a tradition! 10 Clarke is a wonderful place to stay! It is truly a unique bed & breakfast that is cozy, comfortable, and welcoming. The decor in this old Victorian home is simply beautiful. Each room is well-appointed and full of beautiful furniture, but is not cluttered. There's a mix of traditional details with modern amenities, blended with refined style and a touch of elegance. Monique is so kind and thoughtful, and is always eager to take care of us and make our stay special every time. The breakfasts that Monique and her staff make are one of the most memorable features of our stay. These are exquisite 3-course meals made with only the best and healthiest ingredients Monique can find and they are delicious! We love the location of 10 Clarke, too. We can walk to the canal and the rest of downtown Frederick for great shopping and dining in any of the nearby restaurants. Visiting 10 Clarke has become a new annual tradition for us and we look forward to it every year. Make a reservation for a night, a weekend, or a longer stay. You won't be disappointed! read more

Had a wonderful stay at 10 Clarke. The house is absolutely beautiful, and completely transports you to another time. The look of the home was great, but what made the stay even better were the little details that Monique put into the stay, from the music ambiance, bed warmers, and lovely wine and coffee bar, it was all fantastic. I also could not have asked for a better breakfast; the waffles and eggs were absolutely superb! Location is just a few minutes walk from the beautiful downtown area and a few minutes drive to the highway and shopping area. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I know next time I'm in Frederick I will make sure to book my stay here. Thanks for a wonderful stay, Monique! read more

My wife and I wanted to venture somewhere new for dinner, so we spontaneously planned to go to Frederick, Maryland. Searching for a place to stay for the night I came across 10 Clarke street. What a find! This quaint Victorian bed and breakfast has an eclectic interior design and an innkeeper, Monique, who is as colorful as the house. Booking the room was a snap with the help of her assistant, Ian, and Monique made our stay very comfortable in the beautifully decorated Turret room complete with bed warmers, overhead music and heated bathroom floors. This inn is a real gem and I highly recommend it as the place to stay in and around Frederick. read more

I cannot rave about 10 Clarke enough!!! I stayed here while in town for a wedding and had the most relaxing time at this bed and breakfast. The whole house is incredibly quaint and unique, and it is located in the perfect spot to take advantage of downtown. Monique was wonderfully welcoming from the moment we arrived, setting out beverages and cookies for an afternoon delight. She gave us great recommendations for restaurants and sites, and our three-course breakfast was unparalleled. Monique sources as many ingredients as possible locally and is passionate about her cooking. This should be the only place you consider staying in Frederick! read more

Incredible! I stayed here with my husband on the night of our wedding. My sister got the room as a gift and I could not have been more pleased! Monique, the owner, was so considerate and kind. She made us feel special and like an old friend. The service cannot be topped! The atmosphere is so decadent. Pictures do not do it justice. You feel fancy from the moment you walk through the doors. I have never seen any place like this. Everything was perfect! I have nothing but positive, wonderful things to say and I cherish that memory and look forward to going back on our anniversary. Had a perfect stay for a weekend! We'll definitely be coming back soon. The entire house was very charming and well decorated. We had the poets loft, which was a great sized room and bathroom. Upscale amenities, very comfortable bed, and toiletries. A great place for a romantic getaway or relaxing weekend/ staycation. Make sure you don't miss breakfast because it was to die for! Everything is fresh, delicious and the perfect way to start the day! Not to mention Monique was the perfect host and the staff was so sweet and accommodating. Can't recommend 10 Clarke (and Monique, Bob, Violet, and co.) enough! Excellent B&B within a nice walking distance of the heart of Frederick. Staff and amenities were extremely accommodating, even tailoring a vegetarian breakfast for my girlfriend and I, and a chocolate-free experience for her (her loss - the specialty chocolate malted waffles were fantastic!). The Turret Room was lovely. The original windows made things a bit chilly on a record-low winter night, but nothing a friendly tweak of the thermostat and the addition of another space heater couldn't remedy. My husband and I stayed for one night last week. This is a beautiful historic home. It felt like home immediately, as we were welcomed so graciously and friendly by the people and by the warm, beautiful furnishings. Every little detail has clearly been carefully chosen by Monique, the proprietor. The rooms are splendid and cozy. The breakfast was yummy, with everything made fresh and using many locally grown ingredients. We expect to go back to 10 Clarke and hope to stay longer. I would love to have a group retreat there. Frederick is a special place, but I wouldn't mind just staying all day at the inn. read more

I was only in Frederick one night for business but Monique's place managed the balance between stunningly beautiful period pieces and homey comfort, from the welcome bar with refreshments to the swing on the porch and lovely rooms and bathrooms stocked with quality products. She grew up in the same house and has a lot of information on the local history, attractions and places to eat. I had a pilot friend coming off a shift join me for a three-course breakfast with ingredients from her garden and we both agreed it was amazing. I look forward to visiting again, hopefully for a longer period next time. read more

We stayed at 10 Clarke this week and it was wonderful - it was our anniversary and wanted to get away from DC for a night. The inn is beautiful - you feel like you are lost in time - music is everywhere which we loved. Monique was great - we enjoyed a few glasses of wine with her and her guests after we walked into town for dinner. We stayed in Turrett room, beautiful room, comfortable bed with heated mattress pad which made everything so cozy. We're not usually breakfast eaters but the food was fantastic, healthy and local. After having stayed at 10 Clarke over the summer and having a delightful experience, my wife and I decided recently to rent out the property for my Mom's 60th birthday party. Monique hosted an awesome dinner party for us and made us a delicious three course meal complete with my Mom's favorite banana pudding for dessert! The next day we had a fantastic breakfast and Monique was able to schedule a masseur to the house to start my Mom's 60's off in style. Well this was an amazing surprise! We spent one night in the bamboo room during our annual trip to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, and have already booked for next year's festival. Things we loved: Monique and staff were friendly and helpful The food was thoughtful and delicious (those waffles, yum) Music piped into the rooms! The decor is amazing, such a cool property Violet the doggie! We spent a night here at the beginning of December for an anniversary getaway. It is an elegant Victorian house that has been restored to its former splendor with lots of woodwork and interesting decorating. We stayed in the Turret room and liked our accommodations, except it got pretty hot that night - probably because it was on the top floor. The three-course breakfast was a real treat- good food in a very pleasant atmosphere. All of the staff we came in contact with were very helpful and nice. One of the best bed and breakfast places I've ever visited! The rooms were amazing! The energy of the house was awesome. It was a very pleasant and wonderful place with a lot of beautiful decor that made me feel right at home. The owner Monique is a very nice and wonderful person who made sure I was taken care of during my visit. The food was AMAZING!!! It's home style but very healthy and tasty. Monique at 10 Clarke is an energetic and friendly host. She made sure that everything was perfect and also made dinner reservations at Acacia for us. We are experienced in staying at B&Bs and 10 Clarke was by far the best we have visited. Every detail was thought of with the guests' comfort in mind. Our room was spacious and we loved the flat screen TV in the canopy bed. Breakfast was out of this world and the company was enjoyable.
