My wife and I recently moved into the Marana area last year and were unaware of the, "Back Flow Valve Test", and its requirements. The test itself or its need and certification are not my reason for contacting you. I'm a 24 year veteran of the Air Force and am currently deployed to Iraq; so my wife is left with a lot of the household responsibilities which by now she is a master of. However there are many things around the house that she is unfamiliar with and we often rely on experts such as plumbers and or other service providers to give us honest advice on how to proceed.
We contacted, Baker Brothers Plumbing and scheduled an inspection at a cost of $125. My home is two years old (see attached photo)and assumed that we would pass the test with no worries. We were informed by the technician that our valve had failed the test, upon hearing this we asked for pricing to fix the valve. The company quoted us a price of $700 for a valve repair and an additional test of $125, or $1400 for total replacement and an additional test of $125. The technician advised us to not go with the repair as it would not pass the retest anyway, I wonder how he knew that.
After hearing this quote I was a little upset, as a brand new top of the line valve from Lowes is only $265. I reached out to a few other technicians and was surprised to find that the prices that we had received from Baker Brothers, was absurd. We contacted Mr. David Clifford from #1 Annual Backflow Mr. Clifford, was absolutely professional and tested our system 3 times, all passing and refused to take payment after hearing what we went through with the Baker Brothers. read more
