We had a lien placed on our storage unit with 1-800-storage. At this point they require a payment in full. My mother who lives closer to the storage unit had made multiple attempts to make the full payment before seeing our unit sold and ALL of our belongings gone. The first attempt was on Tuesday the 27th, when I had called the unit to ask if they accept payment by check, they confirmed over the phone that they do. At this point my mother goes with a check, and is turned away because they were closing, and she was told to come back the next day. The next day she called to get guidance about paying online (she has limited transportation), and was told that she couldn't pay online by check, and to bring the check in the next morning (please be mindful for later that this person is aware that our unit has a lien on it). At this point, it is the last day for us to pay, and my 56 year old mother decided to bike there in the snow while it was freezing cold. Upon arrival at the time that she was expected, she was told that a check cannot be accepted on the last day. Meaning that she'd have to find a way to go get cash by 4pm when she rode a bike there under the multiple implications that a check is okay. Even on my final invoice, they point to where checks can be made payable to. She didn't make it back by 4pm, and by the next morning in her final attempt to pay, our unit was sold. When I called myself to find out what happened, he informed me that even if I tried to pay by check a week ago, that I would have been turned away, yet I was told when I called that a check was fine, and my mother was told over the phone to bring her check when she couldn't pay by ACH online. I asked for a copy of my lease to see what the payment terms were, and they refused. read more
