Calieb and Kendra came to my home to move a large sectional. When I spoke to the person at the Call Center, they told me somebody would be at my house between 4 and 6 PM. When 6 PM rolled around and nobody had called or come to my house. I called the Call Center and he said that the movers were at another job but coming to me soon. Calieb then called a few mjn later, he said he would be to my home in "30-40 minutes" a little over an hour later, they arrived. They first suggested I pay $550 (or so) for it to be moved which is an absurd amount of money. I politely declined and we agreed on $338 (still too much in my opinion). Kendra was pleasant, Calieb, not so much. He commented before starting the move "I want to go home" in front of me, and he was generally vocal and complaining and was careless with moving the sofa, dragging it across my wood floor, leaving a long deep scratch in the wood for which Kendra later apologized. When the project was finished, Kendra came back and asked if I would like for somebody to come out and fix my floor. I said yes- she told me someone would call me the next day, but no one called.. I'm giving 2 stars because they were able to come same day... and Kendra was very nice. Do not use 1-800-GOT-JUNK. Total rip-off. Yes, they charge by volume--but what they don't tell you upfront is that they also add labor fees by the hour on top of that, which is outrageous. I had a full truckload of stuff, and even though there was clearly space left, they made no effort to take more. On top of that, they asked for a tip! Since they didn't take everything, I had to call another company. The second company charged a flat fee, no hidden labor charges, and didn't ask for a tip--though I gave them one because they actually did a great job. Bottom line: AVOID 1-800-GOT-JUNK. Overpriced. 7 contractor bags, none over 30 lbs (because I can't lift more than that)... 3 cardboard boxes. All in the driveway so they could just back up and load. Close to $300. Website says minimum is $79. When I spoke to the rep she said it could be anywhere from $175 to $300 something. Questioned this info and was told that they never quote that low... I needed this load removed today so I just went with it. With the minimal labor and small load I would expect to pay closer to the minimum. I'll have a larger load for pickup soon but I will use a different company. read more

They then told be they would be at my house within 35 minutes and offered to pick me up something to drink like tea or water. I declined but I was beyond impressed that they offered. An update on my mother's experience with this branch. She found out from the realtor's subsequent visit (because she couldn't be there on 1-800-Got-Junk's last day) that they put a gigantic hole in the attic floor/bedroom ceiling. They never even told her! HAVING SAID THAT, I AM VERY HAPPY to report that Chrissie from their Gaithersburg office has been in regular contact with my mother, has dealt with the staff who apparently cheated her, and has reimbursed her for all labor fees that should not have been charged (as well as paying for the ceiling repair). I will follow up with the main headquarters as they never responded to my case # for the initial complaint of truckload price, but - AS FOR THIS LOCAL OFFICE, they have taken care of all of my mother's concerns and I truly appreciate a company that will do the right thing. On a Sunday, I scheduled a pick up for Tuesday morning. They texted me Monday morning to let me know they were in my area then, and I could get the pick up done sooner if convenient. We are de-cluttering getting ready to put condo on market. When I say declutter... I mean DECLUTTER! I called and made appointment for Got Junk to come out. Sebastian and Ed came and they were absolutely outstanding in helping us out. And they were SO fast! Totally respectful and friendly and I can't think of enough nice things to say about Sebastian and Ed. Some folks may say this service is expensive, it's really not. when you think you have to lug all that "stuff" out of the house (in our case it's the 9th floor), load it up into your vehicle (it would not have all fit in my van... I would have needed a couple large pick up trucks maybe even three)... then drive it to the dump (again in my case the prices would have been repeated three times), and then unloaded. Then let's talk about the polar vortex and swirling high wind advisory going on! It was worth EVERY PENNY and then some. The headache, body aches, frustration, time consumed... they took all that away with my junk! First off , they were supposed to be here at my apartment between 3pm and 5pm. Did not arrive until almost 6:30pm. I had a medium size living room club chair to be picked up. Very quick and easy pick up for them. In and out in less than 5 minutes. My issue is that I was charged $168 for the service. Gave them $180 total. Told them to keep the change. The guys were very friendly and professional , excellent service. My issue was them being late and the cost. They showed me the pricing guide and 168 is the minimum charge. I scheduled the appointment for a specific time so I could reserve the loading dock in my apartment building. Of course they started calling me to see if they could come early. The loading dock door was not open yet so they parked around the corner. Basically they deliberately screwing up my planned time so that I would be caught off guard and unable to catch their tricks. So they start the job, and I tell them why don't they bring a dolly to help move the bigger furniture pieces more easily. But they refuse and insist on carrying everything by hand. Extremely clumsy and in a rush so of course they are banging into the walls and damaging everything like crazy. So once the job is about halfway completed, then they start complaining about how it is such a long distance to walk and they will have to upcharge me for the extra 15 feet. Gimmie a break. They have their whole confusing system rigged just right to scam and ripoff unsuspecting customers. Also they smelled heavily of weed smoke and were actually scary looking characters. I had to keep my eye on them the whole time so they wouldn't steal anything they weren't suppose to touch. Finally, to add insult to injury, they have the nerve to ask me to add a tip at the end when making payment. 1 800 Got Junk was contracted by Casper mattress company to collect a return from my house. They sent in a sick worker into my house and their service was NOT contactless in the height of the second wave of the pandemic. They sent two people into my house, one of whom was sick with covid symptoms. He came into my living space to collect the furniture, coughed repeatedly within close range of me, as he handed me a notepad and pen to sign off for the pick up. He was clearly feeling ill, it could not help the coughing, and he was slow to move around and get out, compared to the other guy. It is unacceptable that the service not be contactless at this point in the pandemic, in a high contraction rate area, and even more so unacceptable that you would bring someone visibly ill to service customers in their house. I have been exposed because of doing business with this company (on behalf of Casper which advertises contactless service). Stay away from this company during the pandemic! read more

With such a well know name, I made an appointment on-line for the next day. Got a confirmation email and text. The next day came and they were a 'no show'. When I called to inquire, I was told I was sent to another market. Re-scheduled for the following day. Then I got several 'your appointment has been cancelled' emails. A second call with customer service and went over all the information again to include what I needed taken away. The morning of the pick-up date, I got a telephone call asking all the same info yet again! Then they show up. Since they charge by how much material you have as to how much space it fills their trucks, they definitely over-estimate the load. I had a 5'x10' trailer loaded with construction debris at a height of 18" and they told me that it would require 3/4 of their truck to haul it away. If you've ever seen one of their trucks, you've seen that they are large. No way in the world that would take up that much space. Whereas I appreciate the service they provide and the convenience, the practice of over-estimating loads is truly criminal. Overall, the process was a headache with the missed appointment, numerous telephone calls and poor load estimates. But I needed the stuff gone and needed it gone that day.
