As I was getting ready for my most recent move, I decluttered my garage and was impressed with myself on how I managed to live two years with so much junk! For some crazy reason, I had this idea that I would haul away my own trash, but I came back to my senses and thought to myself "who has time for that?" That's when I hopped on yelp to see who wanted to take on the glorious task of taking away the junk I thought was so important to have laying around for years. After calling about three different companies on a Friday night, 1-800-Got Junk got back to me with being able to stop by the next morning. On the day of the pickup, the tech showed up on time and after explaining the process and pricing, he got to work. Not only did he get everything, he also cleaned the entire area of where all our junk had been. These guys are a bunch of lazy clowns.. They tried to charge me close to $800 to remove the clipped leaves and branches from four small pruned bushes from my front yard , after they showed up three hours past their first estimated arrival time. I told them it was ridiculous. and at most $200 for what would take up 1/8th of their truck -- like they falsely advertise. It was obvious they just didn't want to have to deal with moving shrub branches from my front yard to their truck (that would have taken the two of them all of 15-20 minutes ), and thought they would throw out what ever ridiculously jacked up price to prevent the job. Do yourself a favor and rent a uhaul for $45 and dump your stuff off at the San Juan Capistrano dump site for $5 ,and don't allow 1-800-GOT -JUNK to waste your time and rip you off (there must be a lot of suckers out there or elderly and infirmed that can't do it themselves that keep these con-artists in business), read more

I scheduled an appointment online for 10:00 am the next day. The driver did not show up until after 5:30pm to evaluate the junk and provide a quote. He then left without providing a quote and has not answered his phone since. So, late to the appointment by 7 hours + and then ghosted by the driver. Very Poor Customer Service. read more

Could not get estimate price on a couch pick up until appointment booked and they had to see it. Makes no sense. Called customer service, described ONE sectional couch (2 pieces ) for pick up. Was quoted $129-169. Men arrived and said it would be over $400!!! Grid system in truck and how much space they said for the $400- then flip second piece and stack or put upright - just like in a moving truck . Noooo way ! Scam. Should be able to put in dimensions for an honest quote - it's a purposely tricky scenario they set up because once they are there and you want your item removed , I'm sure a lot of people feel frustrated but go ahead with this price gouging. Ridiculously over priced. This service is for lazy people who have too much extra money to spend. You can take your stuff to the dump yourself for 1/8th the cost, and pretty much know you took everything. Whereas, there might not be room for all your stuff because they have someone else's junk in the truck when they show up and it would take several other expensive trips for you by using them. It's a novel idea, but a huge ripoff for someone like me who isn't lazy and has a truck to move things in, including junk. And even if you don't have a truck, you could ask your neighbors for help and offer them gas money and the fees to take it to a dump, or find help in the community, especially if you're a senior. I called a couple of removal junk companies and a neighbor said to try 1-800-GOT-JUNK so I did and am I am so glad I did. They called immediately to set a time to come by, and they called again when they were 20 minutes away. Steven and Steven got here (yes, both named Steven) they were clean, respectable, and personable. They looked at the stuff and gave me a quote. They were professional and were done in about 20 minutes. They were thorough and fast. They completed the work and I am so thankful for the referral. They were from the San Diego NE franchise. They Do Not Donate Your Stuff I chose Got Junk because their website says they will donate items that are donatable. However, they destroyed perfectly good wooden furniture, even kicking apart a table to fit it into the truck. They are good at getting rid of junk, but just expect all of your items to end up in a landfill. read more

I emailed them and got an immediate response and set up an appointment the very next day. I choose a time and they were there. They did a great job and also had some great suggestions regarding the removal of some additional items I had simply overlooked. They also cleaned the space afterwards. I had two workers and a supervisor who all did an excellent job.They did in a few hours what would have taken me a few days--if I lived! It is not cheap but personally I felt it was worth it. Used their service in returning a mattress I did not like, and they were super fast and efficient. It literally took less than 2 minutes from them coming on site, grabbing my signature, and them taking the mattress. In fact, the scheduled time was going to be 1pm today but they were in the area already at 8:30am and called to ask if they can come early. So they even got my stuff way ahead of schedule. This company has the worst scheduling I have ever seen. They give you a window and do not honor it. I scheduled and appointment 2 days prior to today. I asked for 1 PM to 3 PM. They called me today at 1:12 PM to let me know that I had 3 other customers ahead of me. They said my new window was 3 PM to 4 PM. I called at 4:20 PM and driver told me the new window was now 5 PM to 5:30 PM. So, I basically waited all day long to be put at the bottom of the list. Bad business. I canceled and will use another junk removal company. I have used 800 got Junk 3 times and 2 out of the 3 times this happened before. They should get rid of that commercial with the owner stating we will be there before you hang up. It is one of the greatest lies ever told. I had an appointment scheduled for tonight between 7 and 9. The drivers called me earlier today but I was at work and missed the call. I called back at 5 once I was home to confirm the appointment, and the person who answered stated that my appointment between said time was still on. At 615 (45 minutes) before my appointment window, I received another call from the company drivers telling me that they would not be coming out becuase they were out of the area.... I'm really unhappy and frustrated with how business was conducted today becuase there is no point in scheduling an appointment if the company you've scheduled with does NOT call you to confirm in a TIMELY MANNER. The same day of the appointment 3 hours before ONE TIME does NOT constitue a reasonable amount of time, especially when you have everything outside and ready to be taken away! I'll called back to confirm and the person answering did not mention anything about them needing to reschedule and the voice-mail they left THE FIRST TIME didn't mention needing to reschedule either. This is bad for business and I highly recommend going with another company who will keep SCHEDULED APPOINTMENTS. Driving out of the way is not an excuse for not keeping scheduled appointments! The situation would be different if I had called the same day or even the day before. They confirmed a 4pm pick up then said they would be late and be arriving at 6:30pm then said they booked too many appointments so they needed to move the pickup to the next day at 11am. We waited and they never showed up and when we called, the person scheduling the appointment said we weren't on the schedule. They fucking suck and I will never use or recommend them to anyone. Had scheduled appt for Saturday window of 12 -2 They called around 3 to say they were so behind it would be closer to SIX. I asked if it would just be easier to reschedule for next day. They said sure. They could come again between 12 -2. Around 130 they leave a message saying it will be more like 3-4. At this point I call the main number to see what is going on and why does this keep happening? I am greeted on the phone by a less than helpful person who assures me he will call the branch manager I will have a call back in five to six minutes. The only call I cot was from the driver saying they were now on there way. It was approx 230. they showed around three. I ask for an estimate (as I had all the stuff stacked in the center of the garage.) As well as a few items on the side of the house (a folding table and two old patio umbrellas) I was very shocked to have him tell me I was looking at 700. *With NO mention of any discount for being inconvenienced for two days*. I told them To take 200 worth as that was what I had been quoted. Then The driver said he could probably take all the stuff in the garage for 298.00. What I want to say is this: if the charges are based the space on the truck they need people who can pack better. At one point they were just tossing boxes and items (presumably for resale somewhere) with crap going everywhere! Unbelievable. Last time I used this service they were amazing. This company should be called 1-800-RIP-OFFS instead! NEVER use them, ever! They are just out to overcharge desperate customers. I was in desperate need to move out of my small storage unit because I couldn't afford it any longer during this Covid-19 pandemic, so I sorted through everything and kept a little under half my items, leaving behind a couple furniture items and some boxes and bags. I called a few companies to haul the rest away and the lady on the phone for Got Junk told me the minimum was $168 to fill the back of the truck and, based on volume, price went up in small increments. I also found a 10% off coupon for AAA members. This seemed like the most reasonable company to go with... WRONG CHOICE! They told me that coupon was old so I wouldn't be getting that discount (even during a pandemic where everyone is struggling financially!!!) and when the guys showed up to move things they were very nice. BUT when they quoted me they said it would be around $600 more or less but they'd have to pack it in to get an actual price and assured me it would be much much lower and they would pack it as tightly as possible. They were loading things down and because my unit is on the third floor I could look out the window and see them packing. THEY WERE JUST THROWING THINGS AROUND! They even broke my small dining table, literally just ripped the legs off, for it to fit. I find it hard to believe they'd be donating it after that!! After it was done they then quoted me $700 dollars!!! More than they said to begin with and I was not about to spend almost all of my paycheck on a long term sub teacher's salary to pay for them to break things they claimed they were donating so I asked them to unload some things to get the price down. They said they had to get to another job and couldn't do that so I insisted they bring the price down and they said they couldn't. I called family in tears asking for any advice on how to handle the situation and I think after that the guys had a heart and lowered the price to $500. I was appreciative of that but it is still far too much to pay to move things and go through such a stressful ordeal. Again, very deceptive from the get go and a complete rip off in the end. so I'm going to start by saying my husband called this company for a quote - we moved and are selling our house and had some trash to remove before the new owner took residence - we were told a quote of 155 approximately but that we would receive a quote between 11-1pm , we even got an email - 11-1pm came and went my husband called and he was told no you're wrong we told you 2-3 ( mind you we have an EMAIL). So jump forward to 3 pm and we get a phone call from a kid by the name of Dallas Rowlands who works for this company and he informs my husband that yes he knows right where our home and load is because we turned down his offer to buy our home . kinda unprofessional but okay but it gives off red flags - we wait for the estimate and they quote us $452.00!!! we are WAT???? and laugh and say I don't think so - less than three minutes later phone rings again it's them we don't answer they proceed to call three more times and text twice - we have made arrangements with someone else at this time they text again and LOW AND BEHOLD they can drop the price 300 dollars !!! ??? Wat ??? my husband replies what changed in a matter of minutes other than your employee tried to screw us cuz we didn't sell him our house ??? and crickets ... crickets and no reply . This review is a few days in coming but heartfelt nonetheless. Our family had a fantastic experience with 800-GOT-JUNK. Our family home (my parents house) is nearly 50 years old, a good 3K square feet and has been the stomping ground for a family of 7 with 5 of us being children that had returned at various points during our undergraduate and graduate level educations. The house had also been the transitional home for every newly married sibling/couple and where grandchildren had come to play and stay with the grandparents. Needless to say, all that time had seen graded papers, crafts, first scribblings and writings, love notes to parents, grandparents, awards a plenty, trophies, and decades of furniture. The home has 4 attics and each was ENTIRELY full of all these memories and many more I've left out. In HALF a day... these wonderful gentlemen helped me consolidate and empty the house of all the items that logically and practically couldn't go with each family member. FOUR 800-GOT-JUNK truck-fulls!!!! They were not only professional, but extremely courteous, VERY careful (which I very much appreciated), clear communicators and went out of their way to do all this work while my infant son slept in a room adjacent to one of the attics! Not only that, the gentlemen that worked on this project were also quick to point out any corner I may had overlooked, confirmed with me whether pieces that seemed stray from designated piles were indeed go-aways and even kept me informed of estimated time to completion and number of trucks. I was truly truly impressed. There were no surprises, from the beginning assessment of potential number of trucks to the moment they drove away. Additionally, as I had little ones with me and had spent two weeks in the house prepping it for the 800-GOT-JUNK day I'd expressed how important it was for me to completely remove all unnecessary items from the home THAT DAY so I could make my day long trip back up the state to return home with my over-expended children. Including the scheduling coordinator Adrian who worked to find me a huge team of eventually 7 young men and 4 trucks that came to our family's assistance that day, the following young men: Sergio Santillan, Maxwell Carlson, Adrian Soto, Antonio Rodriguez, Pasefika Losia, Terrence Fulton and Tavion Rackley made an effort to do the VERY best job they could to remove all the items carefully from our enormous home. They were quiet while moving huge pieces of old furniture down stairs mindful of banisters or walls along the way and were polite and professional. Additional to note, these young men were able to surpass my own attitude, maintaining cheery dispositions while entering and exiting crawl space sized attic entrance with bags and junk in a home that had NO AC!! I was at my own wits end and quite ready to be finished with the project and these young men helped not only alleviate what looked like an impossible task to clear out the house but elevate the mood in an overly warmed house on a hot day because you could hear them joking between themselves as they worked, etc. My husband and siblings and I were beyond impressed with this company, at each level... scheduling, flexibility (when they saw the enormity of the task that lay before them and the effort the company put forth to call on trucks from all over their coverage area to complete the work in one day), professionalism, attitude, etc. My elderly mom, matriarch of the home, present throughout the process said she felt so relieved by not only the work but again by the speed and professionalism displayed. It was she that asked me to make sure we knew the names of all the young men that had come to her aid and to ensure we gave them credit as there are more complaints than kudos given in this day and age. Thank you again to all the young men listed and to the company for making the right decisions when hiring. I had an appointment on Thursday 10/18/2018 5:30pm -7:00pm! I got a call saying they would not have able to make it that day because I was not a priority. Ok? They asked me if I could reschedule the next day 10/19/2018, same time, 5:30pm - 7:00pm! I said it would be fine! On Friday they arrived 8:00pm, late,and all they could do was give me a quote and they rescheduled for the next day Saturday 10/20/2018 11:30am - 1:00pm! I waited all day for them and again they did not arrive until 8:00pm, not only that, they could only take half of my stuff because they truck was full! They had to reschedule me for the third time for Sunday, 10/21/2018, 11:30am - 1:00pm! I waited again and they did not arrive at that time slot! I got a call at 4:00pm saying they would not be able to make it and they rescheduled me for the fourth time for Monday, 10/22/2018 at 5:30pm -7:00pm! FINALLY! A job that should have taken an hour took five days to complete! My experience was a nightmare!A lot of false promises! A lot of my time wasted! I will not use this company again! The company contacted me a day later and apologized gave me a free junk removal and gave me half of my money back! So I'm grateful that they made my bad experience right! I will use them again! They said their driver got my phone number wrong and couldn't reach me. They had the wrong area code somehow. (An email would have been nice.)
