There are two lift areas to go up - one in the main lobby and one off to the right side, down a narrow hallway (best for when the main lifts are too busy). When talking to my friends about the best places for dim sum, establishments such as Maxim's Palace, Tim Ho Wan, Lei Garden, Dim Dim Sum and One Dim Sum pop up. But not many know about Ho Choi... Why is that? I'm actually not too sure myself. They have two branches in Sheung Wan/Sai Wan, which could be far for some, and one in Kwun Tong (which I frequent because it's close to where I work). Some say the original Ho Choi in Sheung Wan/Sai Wan is OK, nothing to special, so I decided to take a visit out to see if they were correct. (A separate review for the Sai Wan one will be posted soon!) But I can definitely vouch for Ho Choi in Kwun Tong to be one of my favorite places! The tables in the main area - that is, not in a "room" - are up for grabs, first come first serve. Get there before 12:10pm to beat the lunch crowd, or risk waiting for a while. The best thing, if you want to skip the wait, is to make a reservation for one of the tables in the "rooms" for ordering main dishes (小菜). You must order 3 or more main dishes when seated at those tables. But of course, you can still order dim sum there. Win-win! Also, because it's sectioned off from the main area, it's much quieter and more conducive to business lunches. While the prices for dim sum and main dishes have gone up in recent years (inflation, rental increases, etc), rest assured you are still getting your money's worth of delicious food! They used to have different price tiers - cheaper in the morning, standard rates during weekday lunch times, and higher prices on the weekends - but upon checking the prices during my last visit, it looks like they are now fixed. For 5 people, with 4 main dishes, and 6 dim sum plates, the total came to be just under HKD 700. Excellent bang for your buck! The tea charge is $12 per person, which is fairly standard. Dim sum plates are tiered, starting at $17 for 'small', up to $32-$35 for 'specialty' plates. Ordering the dim sum is very easy, as you just need to fill in a Scantron-like sheet (college throw-back eh?), with dishes listed in English and Chinese. I was asked to order for the table: - Crispy chicken (half) 脆皮雞 (半) - so crispy, so good! - Sweet and sour pork 咕嚕肉 - my first time ordering the 咕嚕肉 here and everyone raved about it! The freshly prepared sweet and sour pork is a game-changer here and puts those found at a buffet to shame. - Sauteed broccoli with scallops - need those vegetables and seafood! - E-fu noodles with shrimp and egg whites - I appreciate the lack of salt and strong flavors in this noodle dish, as it helps to balance out the other salty and heavy dishes. Thankfully no MSG! Dim sum on point. I'm already hungry for more, even from writing this review. Top favorites here are the BBQ pork buns, chicken feet with black bean sauce (my absolute favorite!), Chiu Chow dumplings (潮州粉粿), and Jin Deui sesame balls (煎堆). If you still have space for dessert, go for it. If you don't, still go for it.

The king crab was huge, cooked with Chinese yellow rice wine which was just perfect. We have ordered a noodle to mix with the wine sauce. The goose was tender and meaty. Most of us were satistfied and full after these 2 dish cos of the huge portion. Then the Grouper was super fresh. The bill, which was just HKD 28xx only. Service is okay, which was comparatively better then the other Chinese restaurants like Lee Garden at Kln Bay.

To see these restaurants sprout like proverbial bamboo shoots after a spring rain is truly remarkable, since pretty much all of them are of an extremely high quality. Is there a chef factory hidden somewhere whence they are schooled and trained, overnight! As you saw from the pictures, the Chinese BBQ (some of it anyway) is done on premise, right through a window, with suckling pig and goose being their specialties, along with Chinese hot pot. When it's 81 out at 7 p.m., it's not quite hot pot season. A lot of their dishes are sort of variations or twists of once-familiar dishes - another trait of local restaurants, where everyone is trying to outdo each other in innovation (the filet, Chinese style, is an example. So why 4 stars? The stir-fries are a little on the greasy side for my taste, and there's generally too much added sugar creeping into too many dishes. The goose is fat and a bit chewy - unless you want your palate coated with goose grease, you'll feel the same as I do. This may be a function of the bird more than the method - which is why I prefer duck over goose. Price is mid-high side, but that's because seafood is so expensive. The main reason for less than the full-five-on is that this is in the context of all KINDS of competition. In Orlando, this could easily be a six-star spot!

As good as it gets" My relatives brought me here for dinner when I visited Hong Kong from the US (haven't been back since 1997). This place is in a fishing village/area, we took the subway and got off at the Yau Tong station, after asking around we got to the seafood area...it was a lot of walking to get to this specific restaurant. This restaurant is at the END of all the other ones along the shore. As you twist and turn to get here, you will pass by a bunch of stores that sell fresh seafood and many will hassle you into eating at their adjacent restaurants. One thing I noticed about ALL the stores is that nothing smelled "fishy"! There was not a stench in the air! I've always heard that fresh seafood does not smell fishy. This is the first time I understood what they were talking about. When we finally got to the restaurant, my family decided on the dishes they wanted, I'm not sure if it was because they knew the owner or if this was something you can ask for because we were walked back out to their tanks to pick out the fish, lobster, clams, etc that we wanted. It was a totally awesome experience. The food was nothing short of AMAZING! I have never had seafood this great in my entire 35 years of life and I live 10 minutes from the ocean in California. Everything was cooked perfectly and dishes were not overly seasoned so the flavor of the seafood really comes out. The "peeing" shirmp was soooooooo good, it was better than any Maine lobster I've had. Yes I just compared a shrimp to a lobster, it was that good! If there's anything I would recommend, it would be that and the jack knife clams. Price is a little on the high end especially given the cheap food prices in Hong Kong, but I can't wait to visit again.

If no one guide or direct us to there, it will take us long time to find it. One of my friends is their regular customer and he got VIP room reserved. Nice! I didn't follow them to select live/fresh seafood from the tanks or seafood market coz I preferred to spend time with my friends for chatting. My good friends would know I like anything kind of live seafood, just pick whatever.... Poached shrimps - Caridean shrimps size are pretty small but it tasted so fresh and sweet. Stir fried razor clams with black bean sauce - **my favourite dish** It cooked perfectly and so delicious. Steamed scallops with garlic and cellophane noodles - Scallop so fresh and mixed with garlic so tasty. Stir fried Jumbo mantis shrimp with garlic and chili - Mantis shrimp just a bit overcooked coz was a little bit chewy. But, I liked the smell with garlic and chili. Steamed Grouper - I loved steamed fresh fish, it cooked perfectly and fantastic. Steamed fresh Abalones - It is finest seafood! Abalone texture was firmed and clean aftertaste tasted. Thumbs up!! Chinese Mitten crabs - The season just started and we're in right timing to have mitten crabs. It's not meaty like Dungeness crab. It's custardy in texture and like sea urchin.. I also felt guilty to eat whole mitten crab coz it's quite high cholesterol. Gai Lan - it's great coz we should have more veggies (rich in fiber) and help for digestion. Fruits platter - The mango was so tasty and juicy and grapes were sweet too. I don't mind to come back next time for such good quality of dishes.

It's not too salty nor too sweet. And the bun in itself is fluffy! The crystal shrimp and veggie dumpling is my favorite, I prefer this over the classic hargaw. The XLB was a little dry, not much soup inside the dumpling which was a bit disappointing. But this was made up with the black sesame and coconut pudding I ordered for dessert. If you like black sesame, do order this! It's soo delicious! It did take a long time for food to arrive, but my dad says it's because the dishes are prepared made to order so that they are piping hot on arrival. True true, but not when you're hungry and dying for some steamy dim sum. I also ordered spring rolls at the end (with desserts) but it never arrived. Turns out it was never inputted into the system for our table... The environment is quite elegant and relaxing, more conducive to business luncheons or having proper conversations without screaming.
