One aspect that makes Hong Kong one of the world's most international cities is the fact they have…read morecurrency exchange counters in practically every neighborhood. Berlin is probably the most organized, up-to-date, and more importantly, offers the best exchange rate anywhere in HK. There might be a few window spots in Kowloon that may offer a marginally better rate, but one can never go wrong by coming here. First and foremost, check their website (http://bcel1985.blogspot.hk) for the most current information and exchange rates. It is updated daily and should reflect super competitive rates. Give it a gander before going in as its practically a requirement. Next, make an appointment by giving them a call (at 2523 3403) because ... The lines are terribly long during peak hours. 40-70 minute waits for walk-ins aren't unfathomable and it gets extra annoying watching people (with appointments) waltz by as if there is no line. Once the security allows for you get into the elevator (which holds 6-7 at most), the next stop is the 17th floor where a tiny (!) office space crowded with people will likely stand until called. For potential walk-ins who can't wait, one might be better off sacrificing the few bucks for a worse off rate at one of the street side exchange spots. Busy Hong Kongers hate to wait, but saving money has more priority. Non-Chinese speakers fear not, they speak great English here. There are guys behind a bullet proof glass that are constantly counting money and an entire office behind them verifying currency and handling money. There is nothing shady about the operation; I wish I could say the same about the Kowloon ones. Lastly, if you're in a rush for local currency and use a non-fee ATM card like Charles Schwab then hit the ATMs. For all other currency exchanges and situations, Berlin is the place to be.

The only con to this place is that it's tiny. There's only about 4 windows of people doing exchanges so when the line gets long it can be a hassle and there's not much space to stand around. Also I know one review below mentioned to count your money first; my cashier actually made me count the money myself before taking it to the back. To be careful, I would definitely recommend knowing how much money you're changing before you go to the window.

If not necessary, I would stay away from coming to the main office here in Central district. But…read morewith some banking needs one has to go to the main office to complete the process. As a financial centre, I am surprised that Hang Seng Bank being such a major bank in HK only has one counter to process "Stock & Bonds" maybe most often things are being done on-line, but due to some regulations there are still a major part of the process requires in-person service. Anyways, I hope I do not need to come to their Main office in the near future!

In the US, Banks compete for your business by providing excellent customer service. Frequently…read moreduring the busy hours, there are additional staff to handle the peak traffic like lunch time and after work. Apparently, the same is not true in Hong Kong. A friend had to stop in at this main branch of the Hang Seng Bank and although it was only about 3 p.m., there were dozens of people in the main line. She had to wait over 40 minutes to be helped. Even the premium customers know that there's going to be a wait and it was extremely amusing to see a fellow bring his own folding chair to wait in line. See my picture. I'm not an international Banker so I'll probably have no reason to bank here but if this Bank were located in the US, I definitely would not bank here because of the outrageous waiting time for service. On the plus side, the bank is extremely clean and there are ample chairs to wait in a designated waiting area. Unfortunately, no chairs while waiting in line.
