The Island is small so you can walk from one side to the other. If you do plan to spend the day then I suggest getting to Yung Shue Wan, Lamma Island: Take a ferry from Central Pier No. 4 to Yung Shue Wan. It takes about 30 minutes. Then leaving from Sok Kwu Wan, Lamma Island: Take a ferry from Sok Kwu Wan to Central or Aberdeen. Stop 1: Yung Shue Wan the main residential area on Lamma Island, with shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. Stop 2: Hung Shing Yeh Beach (Around a 20-minute walk from Yung Shue Wan Pier) white sandy beach, you can enjoy the sun, sand and water. Stop 3: Tin Hau Temple Stop 4: Sok Kwu Wan This tiny village is still very much focused on fishing. The seafood restaurants along the bay are great!

Although Lamma Island comes highly rated on Trip Advisor and Lonely Planet's 2015 Travel Guide,…read moreit's a huge tourist trap and doesn't necessarily capture the beauty of Hong Kong's countryside. From Pier 4 at Central, there are two ferries to take to/from Lamma Island's two main piers: Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan, with the former being more popular and running more frequently. Most visitors hike the Family Walk, which is a ~4 km long trail (~2 hours slow-paced walking with stopping for breaks and photos), from one pier to the other. The power plant at Yung Shue Wan is an eyesore, but there are a few other lookout spots on Lamma Island that provide stunning views of the fishing villages, beaches, and sparkling waters. I recommend Sai Kung over Lamma Island for a half day trip, but Lamma Island is still a good option for those who prefer mild hiking (ie: not too long or difficult in elevation).

There is a pets' park towards the end. On the weekends, you can see pet owners with all their cute doggies chilling. As far as I know, taking the 82 minibus from Tsuen Wan is the easiest way of getting here. Because of the distance traveled and the limited seating, it's best to stand in line early, since the wait at the bus stop can be pretty long. Near the trailhead, there's a shop for snacks and drinks as well as public restrooms. There are a number of ways to go about your adventure. Since we were trying to get back before dark and avoid the next rainstorm, we covered Pineapple Dam and Waterside Paperbarks, extended a little past Shing Mun Reservoir Delta before turning around to check out Shing Mun Reservoir Main Dam. While there were a few stairs and some incline, the trail was mostly flat as well as well-kept and easy to traverse. Breaking away from the main loop, there were portions with gnarly trees, rocky boulders you can climb, and flatlands for day-camping. Another perk is that the wildlife around here roam freely. A herd of cattle were grazing near the reservoir's edge unbothered by passersby. A local troop of monkeys made their appearance, with a few more brazen than others. Word of advice: If you've got your phone in hand or any other small object, they might mistake it for food and lunge towards you, so maintain some distance. If you happen to have driven and parked in an area with monkeys, well...they might just make it their bed and scratch it up, perhaps even leave a dollop or two...We also chanced upon a kaleidoscope of butterflies along the way, many of which were uniquely patterned. Finally, there was a shared rest area completely occupied by a pack of dogs before they went on their way. Fun, fairly straightforward, and not too physically demanding trail for most folks. For humidity and possible chance of rain, bring an umbrella, a water bottle, and change of clothes. Next time I'll try completing the entire loop.

Cheung Chau is apparently a popular place to eat for locals. I did always try my best to eat as good of food here as possible. The first time I visited here was the day I decided to end things with an ex. It was a difficult day for me but I was at least able to enjoy a beautiful day at the beach with friends. Be careful though where on the beach you are. Some parts of the beach might be cleaner than others. The second time I came here, I was with a new friend who showed me a place on the cliff where we could I watch the sunset. We were getting to know each other, but for some reason by the end of our day together, I decided to confess that I had a crush. It was perhaps the combination of the sunset, the music playing, and the nature of our conversation. That's how romantic a beach cliff sunset is! This is all to say, this island is beautiful and worth a stop by if you have time in Hong Kong.

With the excruciating heat during summer in Hong Kong, it would be crazy to ask your friends 'hey! Let's go hiking this weekend!" Though I have to agree, do you know that Hong Kong in fact has one of the best hiking trails in the world and we are just not really appreciating it correctly. Lots of my foreign friends always wondered why is that locals here simply do not go hiking... Well... that's quite embarrassing as we might be taking the nature for granted. Regardless, I finally took up the courage and embraced with our great natural side of Hong Kong. As a matter of fact, Tai Lam Country Park is the second largest country park in the territory. I did not finish the entire trail (sorry I am just a spoiled city boy) but frankly speaking the scenery was just AMAZING. It is fairly difficult to find an idle and tranquil place in Hong Kong, so hiking to places like this is definitely perfect choice for all. Personally, I loved the Red leaves in Dai Tong during winter when it is less hot and the scene would make you feel like you are in one of those romantic Japanese TV shows where the guy and the girl meet.

I had resorted to the treadmill (and risked my life with it!) until a friend told me about Tamar Park. Yeah, I didn't know about it until recently, sorry! To get to Tamar Park from Admiralty, you need to get to Admiralty Center and cross the bridge until you get to the Government Offices. It's a huge, beautiful park overlooking Victoria Harbour. From the entrance of the park you can see a green large carpet. The design of the park is simple and elegant. The first time I went there was on a sunny Sunday and was delighted to have found such a place, a little away from mayhem in Central and exceptionally quiet (on a Sunday, yes!). There were groups of people here and there but I could easily find a free spot under a tree and enjoy my book. It is also a great place for those who work around Admiralty, like me. The downside is that there isn't much shelter and you may want to avoid it during the hot stuffy months. I came back at night a few weeks ago and the view is astonishing, much better than at daylight. It's probably one of my favorite spots to contemplate Hong Kong from. It's just a perfect mix of romanticism and peace. Now, the reason I wanted to check it out was to go sprinting, and you can definitely do that, both in the park, in the early morning when it is empty, or you can go down to the Central Promenade. You will find people jogging along quite often but I expected it to be more crowded. If you carry on this trail, you can reach Central Piers and Star Ferry. Whether you are runner or jogger or you simply haven't found you 'green piece' in the city, I would very much recommend you visit Tamar Park. Or take your other half there at night, he/she will fall in love with you if that hasn't happened yet!
