My love to baked goods is not limited only to the western styles; I like bakeries of the orient just as much. This meat pastry selling shop emerges out of the blue and has been serving baked, meat filled goodness to the neighborhood and tourists alike in Mong kok.
Perhaps it is not right of me to classify it as a shop that specialize in meat pastries as it actually sell filled pancakes as well as cream puffs; but their signature has to be their items filled with meat. I have only tried 3 of them and all of them are quite different from one another. If i have to choose one to write about, it had to be the big meat puff (武大郎) .
It is just hard to give it an English name, so I'd better off describing it: it is a close type of pastry with the meaty filling wrapped inside a crust with a bread-like texture. Wrapped by the toasted crust is the generous heaping of pork which is very well seasoned. Much like other good pastries, a warning sign should be placed on the puffs fresh from the oven -- the filling is so piping hot that a careless bite into the pastry will render a first degree burn to the roof of tour mouth; what make matters worse is that the filling is so juicy that instead of being burnt by the meat itself, its often the searing hot juices that catches you off guard.
