2.5/5, +.5 for service
Gyu Jin is a shabu shabu restaurant inside the Chuang's London Plaza near the corner of Nathan and Austin Roads. It's close enough to the Jordan MTR, but you will have to walk outside to reach this place.
I arrived with about 30 minutes till close, mainly due to typhoon signal 8 being issued. Either way it was across from my hotel, so I had no problem having a speedy dinner.
Gyu Jin is known for their wagyu beef options, so I decided to go with the wagyu beef set, to see if the quality stands up to the other wagyu beef I've eaten. I also went with the tomato broth, as that's usually my favourite broth when it comes to shabu shabu.
We had to grab the rest of the food we wanted in a hallway outside, and personally...I didn't like how it was laid out in the open like that. While I'm sure it's no intent from the restaurant, they can open themselves to food poisoning issues, especially if the food has been left out for a couple of hours.
In general the food was okay, but I didn't feel that the wagyu beef was of high quality. Wagyu beef is supposed to melt in your mouth, but the beef here was too chewy, despite the fact I barely cooked it each time. For $129 it's not bad for beef that's slightly higher quality, but don't expect top notch quality here at all.
Service was excellent, despite the fact I only had 30 minutes to eat. The employees were very apologetic and told me it's for the safety of everyone getting home before the whole transit service shuts down, which I certainly understand. read more
