Wow, what a unique Hong Kong dim sum experience. I try to come here every time I'm in Hong Kong…read more There's a nearby famous tourist attraction, the rainbow estates for photographers. This is the most ghetto dim sum spot I've been. The food is great. I like the contrast where there are two Lamborghinis parked outside. The staff is friendly toward regulars and Hong Kongers. Not so much for foreigners. There aren't traditional dim sum carts. You fetch your own dim sum from the chef. The ordering system is, you tell the people working there how many people. They will seat you next to strangers. Then they will ask you what type of tea and give you silverware. You have to rinse your own bowls and cups in tea. Then you walk up to the dim sum chef and tell them what you want. You get a piece of paper from the cashier lady inside first. If you order too much, you have to come back as the steamers are pretty hot. I saw two Korean tourists got yelled at ask they didn't know how the system worked. My recommendations are pork dim sum, shrimp rolls and egg rolls. Sadly, 新龍城茶樓 will close soon. Ngau Chi Wan Village is under redevelopment and the restaurant will close as a result of that. They've been here since 1959.

Kam Wah Cafe is also famous for their freshly baked Pineapple Bun and Butter. Can't start your day without some HK Milk Tea and Iced Ovaltine. My son said it's a good thing the nai cha in the states are not as good because he was starting to develop an addiction. Lol. For those of you who don't know, it's made with Ceylon leaves, evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk. The French toast was so damn delicious but a bit indulgent. I do wish I could taste more of the peanuts. My son loved his bolo bao. We also shared a hot bowl of macaroni soup with Spam and lettuce. Thinking back, I regret not trying the Spicy Satay Beef Instant Noodle. I will have to look for this back in the states. The aunties working here are just the most adorable, very kind and welcoming. One of them took the time to help us navigate the huge menu and recommended a few items. I would come back again and again if I could. I have a mad love for these iconic HK Style Cafes aka Cha Chaan Tengs. These affordable quick-paced restaurants were influenced by the city's 150 years of British rule. Aside from the classic breakfast items, they also offer many delicious rice and noodle dishes in the afternoon.

Be ready to share a table with strangers and don't expect good service as they're not shy to give you some attitude. The pineapple bun was delicious! The top crust was crispy and flaky. Their lemon tea and milk tea was also very good. It was the perfect afternoon snack.

My roomie ordered beef rice roll ($21 HKD) and I got Century Egg with Beef Congee ($30 HKD) with doughnut ($12) and my food was big. Congee was big enough for one person and I couldn't believe the doughnut was big. Later I regretted getting doughnut with congee, because I couldn't finish it all. Delish food for a reasonable price. I would come back here again if I happen to stop at HK for a layover flight.

It's communal seating, so don't be surprised if you're sitting with other people. I like that this place has a napkin dispenser, which a lot of restaurants in Hong Kong don't give you napkins. Their congee is good and bubbling hot. Not the best I've had in Hong Kong but it's super quick and cheap. Their soy bean milk is delicious and homemade with no added preservatives. It's great cold too. Their rice crepes aren't too bad either. I like the sesame and sweet sauce they provide you on your table. Each time I've been here, it's been with my parents so they usually speak to them/my sparse Cantonese had gotten me by, not too sure if they speak too much English here. It gets crowded at peak times, but you can usually get a seat. Turn over time is super fast. They're efficent and friendly enough!

For a vegetarian spot in the middle of a park dedicated to the teachings of enlightenment, this is…read morepretty good. I was once here 20 years ago i believe during a family trip and not my decision to eat here or for the dishes, it was ok. Same with this trip. I'll forewarn future visitors here that I wasn't aware until after I had left pictures were not allowed. So apologies to those who run the establishment for my mistake as I meant no offense. I think the best dish out of all I had was the curried mixed vegetable plate. I wish other curry places could learn the recipe for it because this dish went fast at my table and it was really good. The sweet and sour "pork" (bean curds) wasn't bad, but the bean curds were deep fried to a crunchy consistency I'm guessing to resemble that crackling skin on top. The fried pumpkin didn't taste much like pumpkin if that's what it was. Could have been any melon as far as I could tell. Summary: This place is in the Nan Lian Garden Park and is part of a nunnery. To access this park, you must enter the park and best to make a reservation, but can accept walk ins if they are not busy. I'm not sure what the reason is for the $150 (HK dollars) minimum, but that could be a deterrent for those not sure about the food or for a smaller party of 3 or less. I'm guessing this is also to minimize waste as the ladies here will frown upon any wastage of dishes not eaten. The service was helpful and there is a beautiful view of dining behind a waterfall. Just keep in mind you are dining at a vegetarian spot so expect a variety of vegetables you may not have ever seen before and try before you say "no." There are a variety of options for drinks, but no alcohol. A bit pricey from what I've been told so be prepared for that. Otherwise, the garden itself is an absolutely beautiful place to visit and should be visited at least once in your life. Happy eating!!

We ordered ten dishes and I didn't see an animal-derived ingredient. Seasonal greens with cordrycep-flower mushrooms These had to be some of the best leafy vegetables I've had in a long time. Cooked so the stem was incredibly tender, yet still firm. Honestly I don't know what cordrycep is, but it was delicious. Beetroot salad Im not normally a big beet fan, so only okay. Beancurd This was awesome. A little garlicky. Bathrooms were pretty good. From a Western standard, I would give the bathroom an A. Ambience is a very traditional feel -- well lit with the waterfall on the window.

Hong Kong Cafes with a noodle focus almost always end up being my preferred places to chow down…read more Chui Hing (潮興魚蛋粉) is combines no nonsense service with killer food, along with affordable pricing and 24 hour availability to boot. The pretense is non-existent and locals (including myself!) seem to love it here. So like many noodle spots in HK, this place is fairly small. No big tables for 5+ but quite a few small'ish round tables that are good for solo eats or the invaluable food companion. The aroma coming from the semi-open kitchen should be enough inspiration for folks to know what they want upon arrival, but just in case they have the menus outlined along the wall. An easy way to start? Try a wonton and beef brisket with your choice of noodles. The wontons are somewhat pillowy in texture and full of flavor while the beef brisket is braised well while maintaining a perfectly chewy bite. The noodle variety is good, with egg / rice noodles winning over the crowd though I feel the e-fu noodles take the cake. Lastly, do not sleep on the beef tendon. It's practically butter when done right. Chui Hing does fancy itself as a HK style cafe, so other dishes like congee, fried fish skin, fried rice, may appear on the menu, focus on what to stack in your bowl instead. The staff is really helpful and welcoming.

The prices are also very reasonable. I bought beef ball and wonton, wonton noodle soup. I didn't ask to have the noodles separate, but they still retained a good amount of chew by the time I got back up top the hotel. You can pay a little extra anywhere to ask them pack separate. The wontons are ok, beef balls are good, noodles are good, soup okay. The milk tea wasn't very strong but has a nice authentic back flavor. Everything was ready in under 5 minutes. Very good for takeout!
